I'm definitely one of the 50% that hates popups. They're so annoying and no matter what the offer is or what it says I don't even give it a chance. I just go straight for the close x icon. The worst ones give multiple popups (sign up, get 10% off etc.) And then the one that tries to shoulder barge your mouse cursor when you go for the browser back button

You betcha, I think the biggest issue I find is with full screen pop-ups. There are definitely more subtle types of pop-ups that convert slightly less but are much less annoying, like corner pop-ups, etc.
