I really admire how much work you put into each panel! You’re clearly inspiring lots of artists.

That would be terrific! I think a lot of people have put the pens, pencils and brushes away because life got in the way or just don't know where or how to start. I had similar issues for many years, if I can motivate people and break through that barrier like I did, that would bring me a lot of joy. And the creations those people make will bring a lot of joy too😁

I'm so grateful to have found your video. Ive wanted to make a comic (for myself and my friends mostly) for a while but kept pressuring myself to pursue it in a digital format. I dont mind dogital, but i am most comfortable doing art traditionally. Its so good to see someone doing it traditionally!

Yeah, go with what you are most comfortable with. It will make it so much more enjoyable. Thanks for watching and leaving a comment.

It's important to consider when is too soon to publish. For your first go of it, make sure what you've got up is complete enough that it doesn't feel incomplete. Ending on a cliff hanger is a great idea, ending with uncoloured pages is not. If you're doing a series, then consider completing a few of them before you start uploading. This helps you keep to a consistent publishing schedule even when life gets tough.

Thank you. This has been very helpful. I have always been curious about sites like Webtoon and your perspective on it really helps to give me a sense of what it's about over there.

One reason I host mine on my own site: way to pervasive for people used to the way things are done at Marvel or DC to assume thats only way to draw one. As if an entire world of oblong books, text comics, and comic strips dont exist. If I wanted to conform to someone elses style guide Id do a batman comic for DC. Or a scooby comic, sense thats closer to my genre. ( I do a more grounded subset of Surrealism with lite scifi elements. ) Also I dont regularly draw these and functionally closer to a visual diary.

Thats so true, not everything has to conform to Marvel and DC's way. I'll check out your work!

Thanks for sharing these videos, they're great and inspirational. I've been meaning to do my own project for years. As you said in one your previous videos you have to start at some point. I knew it but I needed the reminder 😉 Keep up the good work 👍

Thabk ypu for sharong your experiences, its very valuable, especially for someone who just starts tk thinking about making own comic. You convinced me that it is worth to invest my time in my own comic site at the first place. Also I admire ylur skills and the decission of making your comics with traditional media! Looks stunning and definitely stands out. I am curious if you regret sometimes that you didn't go with digital media (faster, easy to correct, but not so precious )?
@dionhamillillustrations10 ай бұрын
Hi, thanks for your comment and glad to hear you are thinking about making your own work😃. i have never regretted doing things in traditional media, not once. I worked in advertising a lot over the years and anytime I would have to use a computer for an illustration I just really disliked the process. I really enjoy hand making my comics because there are so many variables. There is also the excitement of being able to do it by hand. And corrections are not as hard as people think, especially with the way I work, but it really makes you focus on how to execute an image. I also don't want people to think I dislike digital art, I love it, but for me it's more about how I make my art. And I love paper, I love watching wet media soak into the paper, I love the sound of pencil scratching on the surface. I love the buzz you get when you create something really challenging the first time and you don't mess it up. And then I love holding that original art. If it's about time, I don't think I would be any faster. That was probably a long winded way of me saying I LOVE TRADIONALLLLLL!!😆

Haha yes, it sounds like a beautiful love leyter to traditional arts, and I fully understand the love❤❤❤ I belive you are using gouache paints here, right? I thibk that for the first trials I should go with digital, but I will love to make a watercolor painted comic someday! But alhough I have small experience in making comics (but only conminshioned) and long one with traditional illustrations, I suspect I should start in the easiest way. Before I saw your works, I even didnt consider the traditional way. But, man, this looks exceptional.

Great video! Can you talk about what you think is the best way/platform to build a website as a webcomic creator?

I can do that. I'll make it a future video. Thanks for the idea

What do you use to upload your panels to the website? Scanner? Camera? Phone?
@dionhamillillustrations10 ай бұрын
Hi, I scan my work. Most printing places these days can do a really good quality A3 size scan for 20cents. If you do have photography skills and the lighting to do it, you could photograph your work too. I've just found scanning to be less of a hassle.
