When I was in the business of Contracting, I used to have an electric Bosch Disc Sander such as what you were talking about. That hooked up to the vacuum cleaner and it was a breeze, took all my troubles away and it makes a whole house drywall job a breeze. In fact you end up looking for more work, because it's that nice.

I would do the same: Hooked up my shop vac to the disc sander. A couple extra things I would do is remove the filter in the vac, fill it with a couple inches of water and also put a wet towel over the back end of the shop vac. Always impressed others who saw how well it worked : )

we bought the Maxxt "Amazon Choice" as it was $269.99 CAN, NOW the motor is on the head so it makes i very heavy. My dream is to get a Festool but $1600 was not about to happen. Got a Compact size shop vac and the bags for drywall and the filter and we were almost 95-98% dust free. Worth every penny! We have used it so many times and just not having all that drywall dust to deal with was awesome. I have never seen the sweeping compound but adding to our list. I bought an orbital sander that I use so much, especially for inbetween paint coats for sanding to get a smooth finish. YOu have awesome tips and tricks.

I bought one of these just over a year ago (mainly to strip a pop corn ceiling which it did amazingly) but this winter I finally got to use it to sand new drywall and wish I had bought it years ago! As you said in the video turn the speed all the way down to start it will pull you around the room if you arent careful. The shopvac hook up is a must as well I lent it to my brother in law and forgot to mention that part and he ended up absolutely covered 😂 Another great trick with it is if you are mudding and drip mud on the subfloor just you can go around with the sander on the floor with some 80 grit and get the dried mud off that way rather than trying to scrape it all off on your hands and knees before installing your final floors

Would you recommend the vacuum sander for already painted walls? background: really low quality, super flat contractor grade paint. They sprayed it on and did no post spray sanding. Every touch up that I've tried with the exact paint they used sticks out lik a sore thumb, and the paint isn't washable at all so any mark has to be retouched. I will need to repaint with decent paint, but I think I need to get this stuff sanded a bit or I'm doomed to failure. I'd love it if you told me I was wrong and could just go right over it and have good results, LOL, but would prefer the truth.

Great video! Telescopic pole for the win, I used my paint poles with a sander adapter. I liked fine mesh tape versus traditional paper as it doesn't clog up. I have bad shoulders from overhead work so the pole works great. I don't trust myself with an orbital but I like the dust extraction idea. Maybe I'll strap my hand orbital and hose to the pole next time! I'd recommend a real dust mask or at least a t-shirt or bandana while you sand too, especially if the room is closed off.

The problem with most electric drywall sanders is, they're too heavy and like you said, you have to hold the handle somewhat parallel to the ceiling, which is hard on your body. There are however better options available. Both Mirka and Hilti make lighter weight electric sanders that have sanding heads that rotate 180⁰. Plus they are orbital sanders, so no swhirl marks.

@@HomeRenoVisionDIY WAIT! Before the homeowner touches the texture, he MUST check it for asbestos. Ask me how I know. It needs professional removal.

Hi Jeff, I hope you and your family are well. Your videos are very helpful. I have tried every single sponge and I keep having mud marks after paint, even, after applying 2 coats of primer. What is the little trick that I am missing to eliminate those marks, completely?
