In today's dynamic workplace landscape, the integration of AI technology is an undeniable reality. This transformative shift is often perceived as a double-edged sword, especially by subject matter experts whose roles may be replaced by the very technologies they are responsible for training. Surprisingly, it's not just corporate executives or board members who are driving this change; it's the front-line people managers who are leading the charge into the new era of AI in tech.
For these managers, a critical dilemma arises: they must decide between embracing rapid innovation that could potentially displace their own teams or resisting innovation in an effort to protect their workforce, only to risk their company falling behind in the competitive landscape.
Madison Mohns, an AI Product Manager at Indeed, is on a mission to chart a more compassionate and sustainable course. Madison's profound passion for technology is only matched by her unwavering commitment to ethical considerations. In her compelling TED talk, Madison shares a systematic approach that empowers managers and supervisors to ethically drive innovation within their businesses while safeguarding the future of their invaluable workforce. Join Madison as she delves into this ever-relevant topic, offering a path forward that harmonizes technological advancement with ethical responsibility.
Madison is a Product Manager at Indeed.com who specializes in developing machine learning approaches to enhance metadata generation for candidate job matching in 19 global markets. A passionate advocate for AI ethics, she takes an optimistic yet conscientious approach to the use of AI solutions. Her expert-in-the-loop approach to scaling taxonomy coverage was recognized and featured in a published paper at RecSys Conference 2022. She manages a team of 120+ taxonomists, data scientists, and engineers, and has pioneered her team's ability to drive innovation by augmenting her teams' work with AI solutions.

She says the AI can handle repetitive tasks but not every job has tasks to delegate. In the end if your company notices that a machine can do your tasks regardless what task it is for cheaper price the worker might lose the job and the worker must have to learn something new in order to survive, but what about your vocation? Every person would fit new professions without vocation? Imagine a teacher who thought his entire life, now he must be a painter, artist, dancer?

@@moacir8663 AI will be supervised by humans, others jobs will appear, and if not...well society will change. Our current society is failing on its indicators (GDP vs environment) and despite the huge improvement in productivity+ women on the market we are still working as much as before. There's things we need to change maybe it will help

The smartest thing that should be on everyone's mind right now should be to invest in different streams of income that are not dependent on the government. Especially with the current economic crisis around the world. This is still a good time to invest in gold, silver, and digital currencies (BTC ETH...).

The problem is, tech people are generally more introverted and prefer to work alone. Hr and the managers decided to force us to work more and more to work with other people. I'm sorry, but you brought us automating your jobs on yourselves. We don't want to work as part of a team, we don't want to attend daily meeting where manager who don't know what they are talking about take all the credit and 'make the decisions'. You've made our working lives much much worse. I'm sorry but you only have yourselves to blame.

It might not matter what the worker wants. If he or she does not want to work with other ppl. Then the staff will change until it acquires people that have those skills. “But I don’t want to do that” is the people that need to be gleamed out of the workforce.

Imagine owing 100’s of thousands for a degree only for those skills to be replaced by AI. Now, you have to go back and borrow more to become Re-skilled at something that AI will eventually replace again. There’s nothing ethical about it unless Education is made free across the board.
