You can get the line art brush for FREE by seeing this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/ameoZoehdsmnepo it shows all the settings for the Fast Lines-brush. I use this tool often in my illustrations where I want the lines to look clean and simple ✏️

I totally agree that social media makes art looks so effortless. I see my 3-4 hours painting turns into a 5 mins video on KZbin, or worse 10 seconds shorts. And people don't truly see the process and struggles behind it. On another note, I just want to say how beautiful this painting is, so much details go into it. Just simply gorgeous 😍

Thank you. Definitely not done in 13 minutes though :) I had several days in the middle where I didn’t know where it was going but the colours luckily answered that question for me so I didn’t have to 🤷🏻‍♂️

The process and struggles behind the art is also a thing of awe and beauty that gets lost in those shorts. I prefer the longer videos bc of the therapeutic aid it offers, combined with hearing the creator’s voice over. I simultaneously learn from them and heal in these moments. ❤

This may be my first YT comment ever. I've been watching your videos for quite awhile now and have found your advice helpful when no one else's seems to. I clicked this video to listen to in the background and now can't focus on my task because you're making me realize I think I'm making all these "mistakes" when I never realized it and it just took me by surprise. I wanted to say Thank You.

Honestly Mikko, you are the most inspiring person I've ever seen in the universe, you have made me realize who I am today... I particularly liked your idea of practicing a specific art form for 3 months... please keep making videos like this and never stop! Love you and your paintings!! 😁
@angrymikko
@angrymikko 2 жыл бұрын
In the bigger picture 3 months is really not that much time but it can really make a difference when used for targeted practice. All too often I see people forget the “play”-part though and it can make the whole process seem not only impossible but something that can kill creativity. Creativity doesn’t survive and help us on its own. It needs to be taken care of like you would treat a good friend. It can and it will take the hint if you keep sending signals that it’s not needed.

Your points are so incredibly important, thank you for being so honest, helpful, and compassionate at the same time. I used to love drawing and painting when I was young, but a broken ego totally destroyed any joy I felt. Especially the competition during the art major in my final years of school finally made me give up drawing and painting for many many years. Even now more than a decade later, it’s hard not to feel ashamed how I regressed to a complete beginner level. The only thing I want to aspire to is to be able to enjoy my own art, but that’s a long process to really be able to do and to internalize that idea.

Thank you for this! I wanted to fit anatomy, digital painting and animation in my schedule and I kept wondering why I wasnt able to follow it and stay productive, I simpy didnt think that lack of focus was my problem.
@angrymikko
@angrymikko 2 жыл бұрын
That's a lot. Especially animation seems like it requires the whole list of things to get going. I've only dabbled in animation a few times and every time I'm reminded of just how insanely time consuming it can be even with a simple loop. These days I've given myself more time to enjoy making pixel art without stacking a requirement to add animation to it. At some point you just have to look at the bigger picture of where you want to go with those skills and build the tools according to that plan.

I feel like leaving my experiences out of the middle part would have made that section seem like I’m just telling people what to do. It’s not an easy phase to get over but I’ve seen enough art students to say we’re all climbing that mountain in some part of or art journey. I’m sure everyone goes through that in their own way but I can only speak of my own experiences. I hope they can help someone who needs to hear that.

“Help the paintings be the best it can be!!” 🤯🤯🤯 I think my mind is opening up. So i noticed my most enjoyable moments when i create is thinking about the receivers and how excited they will be. But what if i personify the art piece itself and work to see how excited the art piece would be. I guess in simple terms the art is my client. Ummm thanks mikko ima let this idea marinate for a little bit.
@angrymikko
@angrymikko 2 жыл бұрын
“Art is my client” I love that. I guess it’s best to specify that it’s for the kind of person that you really care about and want to help them with the best of your ability. (That client who wanted me to change the [finished!]mural birds into angels without additional fee doesn’t belong into this category ☝️😅)

You mean to think of one person specifically that you’re making that artwork for? Sounds like an interesting idea. Worth trying at least. It’s totally okay to make art for yourself too. But as long as you always publish the finished work that gives others the opportunity to experience it as well.

@@angrymikko so im highly excited and motived to create when i know someone is going to appreciate it. That feeling is a joyful feeling. What if i get that feeling for the art itself? I go in thinking i cannot wait for this art piece sees what i have for it. The art piece is going to be so excited. In turn my art and others will be excited. Sorry, kind of hard for me to explain.

Mikko, is that alpha lock you are using on gradient of the clouds or clip mask? I never know the difference and when to use each. Thx! A beautiful message to go with beautiful art!
@angrymikko
@angrymikko 2 жыл бұрын
With a clipping mask you get a bit more flexibility but it costs a layer so it depends on what’s important for the situation. The clouds on the corners have a clipping mask gradient done with my splatter brush and those cloud reflections on windows fade away with an alpha mask gradient. Hope that clarifies it a bit.

Love your art! ❤️ I am more wondering if you done or if you planning to do how to start background illustration? As at the moment I have a difficult to make so many details straight away and moves my motivation away.
@angrymikko
@angrymikko 2 жыл бұрын
From the way you worded that question recommend the exercise described in this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rJ-le2ytos6lr8k I have to say that details are not important but most of all I would stop using the word background if you are studying landscape painting. It’s a different field of art that I have honestly no experience in. Motivation is tough but rather than wait for motivation I have my work hours and I work when I’m not on my free time. Sometimes I feel motivated to start sometimes I don’t. I wouldn’t stop going to work just because I’m not feeling motivated. The whole motivation thing is garbage anyway because it’s never there when you need it. Momentum works though and once you have it, it’s easier to keep going than to stop. I love painting, writing and making these videos. But if anyone tells me they’re not work because I enjoy them I’d want to slap them immediately 😅🤷🏻‍♂️🐻
@rasa7196
@rasa7196 2 жыл бұрын
@@angrymikko Thank you! I did not realise there is difference between background and landscape , sorry. Need to look into. I feel its more not just motivation but more I cannot express what my idea is. Or my idea is not good on paper as I imagined. Hard to explain. I am kinda stuck once I put flat colours with shadows and light, but those smaller details which fill the composition ( like your rocks, birds, lightening effects, sky details) - thats what I am struggling most. And of course colour pallet ( but as I understand thats mainly practicing will improve me) . As well is it ok to use references for different things? For example: building perspective, sky references , rocks trees and etc. As my brain cannot remember , hahha. And I feel a bit guilty as I see artist like you - who seems only drawing from head.
@angrymikko
@angrymikko 2 жыл бұрын
Always always use a reference when you need one. Even when you don't feel like you need one having one could still be helpful. Most of those things are things that you could take your own pictures of or even better just paint on location. Photograph will never be as helpful as the real thing and especially when painting landscapes I'd avoid places like ig, tumblr or pinterest because all the contrasts and saturations have been cranked in edit to the point where they're not helpful reference materials.

@angrymikko
@angrymikko 2 жыл бұрын
I think we all battle with those to some degree. Sometimes lazyness is easy to overcome by building momentum. You don’t need to start doing 1hr pomodoro sessions right away. Just committing to 15minute ones can be a way to get that ball rolling.

I have a question : is your vision of your art piece all fixed from the start and you are doing it step by step or is it evolving as the drawing goes and maybe that's why you are sometimes changing the colors...
@angrymikko
@angrymikko 2 жыл бұрын
The idea came in and during the idea creation livestream. In the colours I was thinking of the techniques used in ukiyo-e prints but wanted to expand it beyond what I did earlier in my “Vermilion Exterior” piece. What that direction would be after those steps could only be found through experimentation and design. Sorry for the long answer. I guess the short version would be yes & no?
