The original build: • $25 Winter Cabin Build...
We build an entire cabin for just $25 3 years ago, most of which was the cost of plastic wrap. We also used pallet wood, some screws, scrap lights, an old wood burning stove, and cedar poles we cut from the forest.
Join us as we show you how to build a tiny cabin in the woods for a super low cost. All this can be done with a drill and screws, or a hammer and nails, a handsaw, circular saw if you prefer, and just over 1 roll of plastic pallet wrap. We also build a table, chair, and full bed!
The cabin sleeps 1 comfortably, but it's possible to get one more. If no stove is necessary, it's super easy to get one more person inside the tent, but there needs to be enough space behind the stove so the plastic doesn't melt.
If you decide to build this shelter, be sure to keep safety in mind and use a smoke detector.

"Self-Reliance" is an 1841 essay written by American transcendentalist philosopher and essayist Ralph Waldo Emerson. It contains the most thorough statement of one of Emerson's recurrent themes: the need for each individual to avoid conformity and false consistency, and follow his own instincts and ideas. This channel will approach self reliance from a modern perspective. and will focus on various build projects using modern amenities, and tools to build a completely self reliant lifestyle.
Many people ask me where I am from and where I film my projects. I am from Northern Ontario, Canada, and live in an area where off-grinding is easy because I have lots of land to build on and experiment with different buildings and materials. Everything I do is to try to be more self reliant, and to depend less on others. But that doesn't mean I don't like working together with other people on projects. Knowing people who have skills is part of being self reliant, and trading skills is a great way to get more things done!

You guys are sick... just buy a freaking toilet. Use a post hole digger and go deep in ground.. attach pipe to toilet into the ground.. pour water in the toilet tank and it will flush into the hole... throw dirt in hole to cover it with wood ash as you go.. you can also dig your self a septic system.

You can do the same thing use a full size trash bag and keep a second bucket of cedar chips mixed with potpourri put some of the mix down in the bottom do your business put a little bit more on top to cover it up and it gets rid of the smell and everything especially when it's cold out but it also works when it's warm

I've wondered why you hadnt revisited the "SaranWrap" cabin. Last saw it when Chris stayed during turkey season. Personally, I wouldve wrapped branches with leaves in-between the plastic wrap for a touch of privacy. Nothing like baring it all in the woods...lol 😂😅 Love what you're doing 😊

Kevin it's amazing but yes the plastic wrap cabin is a testament to your talents and the plastic wrap outhouse is a great idea. There are bushcrafters that build structures and I need to know where the heck are the facilities because there is a need to have something like your idea, I love a burl as well they are all so different.

3:27 That pallet wrap is not the only thing that will be breaking the wind in those three trees. 😂 I love your delivery regarding the tape as you fix the hole in the wall; "This says it's Easy Tear....rip...Huh, it is." Love it. 😄 And I just realized one of the (many) reasons I enjoy your channel, as well as your builds with Don. Don is Bud Abbott to your Lou Costello. He's the straight man to your antics. 'Hey Don, what do you think about your new vest?' 'Good. Yep. Warm.' *crickets* Well, he is straight forward, straight to the point. The straight man. 😅 Awesome. You two make a fantastic team. Another fantastic episode. Thank you so much for your channel. Be Excellent and Keep your stick on the ice. 🤘🎸😎🌈🏒

@@ModernSelfReliance I had been using McDonald's Premium roast for a couple of year's ( 30oz can from Walmart) I found a small package of Tim Hortons original blend coffee pods on clearance and bought them. After my first cup of it I was hooked. It is $4 more per can than the McDonald's, but well worth the cost.

Thanks for the video Kevin! This is such a cool build. An idea for pretty cool fire starters is to take a cardboard egg carton, stuff each of the bowls with dryer lint and then pour hot paraffin wax over it. Once it cools you just break each of the cups apart from one another and it makes an awesome starter brick. Really cheap and easy
