3 Years of MallBat

hiiii MallPups!! (don't worry smallbats i'm gonna alternate between the two cuz that's incredibly on brand for me) I wrote a few words while reflecting on the past three years and wanted to share with you. I started using the alias "MallBat" three years ago after graduating from film school. I spent most of my time making experimental diary films only to realize within the last semester my true passion lied in animation; the thing that got me interested in filmmaking 14 years prior. I was an aimless and dysphoric 22 year old with nothing but a piece of paper that says I know how to make movies. Yippee... The only thing I was confident in was my love for film and the joy that making cartoons brought me. My name no longer felt right and I hated seeing it in the credits of films. "MallBat" served as a way for me to continue my passion all while maintaining anonymity. Three years, 24 short films, and three EPs later I sit here proud of not only the art I've created, but also the person I've become. I no longer use MallBat as a shield of anonymity. I am MallBat and MallBat is me. In many ways it was the first label that really suited me. It gave me the confidence to express myself authentically, long before I ever went by Jesse. I've learned so much and met so many wonderful people as MallBat, and I'm grateful for that everyday. I can't help but feel something profound in the fact that I was once 12 years old, secretly trying on girls clothes and making brickfilms on KZbin under the alias LaserHouseProductions. I grew up and threw all that away, disregarding it as sinful, childish, and a waste of my time. 13 years later, I've realized that 12 year old knew what was right all along. Making dumb little cartoons and being a girl is who I am and I wouldn't have it any other way. Thanks for reading this. Thanks for watching my movies. I wanted to say that every time I see something new from you it blows me away in a new way, but instead of one big explosion its like a bunch of little explosions in all the parts of my brain, and maybe also my body in some places but all in all your animations and videos are just so awesome and you seem endlessly cool and endearing, you are one of the people who's existence anywhere makes me being me easier and makes everything in life look a little cooler and easier, especially making garbage like a true trash girl, congrats 💜💜💜

I was introduced to your videos through How To Give Yourself A Name and then watched other videos like Paint The Town. I fell in love with your artstyle and although I wouldn’t consider myself an active viewer, I always made sure to catch up every now and then to see if there’s anything new that catches my attention. I relate; got here the same way you did. I feel kind of stuff is not just wholesome because of the work and emotion being put into it, but also serves as drive to follow whatever it is you wish to. I first found your channel from the "How To Give Yourself A Name" video and I've generally loved the vibe. I've always felt drawn to weird indie art and that "earnest rough around the edges" aesthetic. What's been new for me is discovering a nonbinary identity around Fall of 2022 and finding the general queer community to be really neat.
