We woke up to -2 (-18.8) with a windchill of -18 (-27.7) in SW TN USA. Very unusual for us. But, we are dealing, I guess. Nice and toasty in the house. Piggies are so SWEET!

I think it cold here in Kentucky it's -6 but no as cold as you have we have a windchill of -30f. I enjoy watching you do your daily chores as I'm sitting here under a blanket and warm PJ'S please take when out in the cold. I love the little piglets they are so cute.

Good Christmas Eve morning Chelsea. A balmy 8F at our farm in New Hampshire. So much rain and wind. Yesterday 130,000 homes here were without power. Fortunately our lights only flickered. I bought clip on camping 💡💡 light bulbs ( battery powered). I clip them all over the house in case we end up in the dark! Barred Rocks are my favorite chickens because they are winter hardy. Plus, they are both a meat bird and egg layer. They have that pretty herring bone pattern :-) I cannot get over your food prices! New Hampshire has a reputation for high cost of living, but nothing close to what you are currently experiencing. And we are not as isolated with our farming neighbors. This allows us to share meat, produce and dairy. We Baby Boomers are grateful to be able to rely on each other. Noone on our farm is under 70. We have fallen back to the skills and traditions of our parents and grandparents to function in this challenged economy. If you have ever watched the Walton's original movie, THE HOMECOMING, that is our lifestyle. That movie was set in Christmas 1933. You and your family are doing great! My 2023 wish is that more families can learn from channels like yours on how to be more self-sufficient through home gardening and by finding ways to share 🍅🍆 foods and trade skills 🔨with neighbors. 🎄🎄 Merry Christmas! ~ Diane

Our pipes froze last night and that's with one night of 7 degrees fahrenheit. We turned on a space heater and faced it at the pipes and voila, water again. The problem comes when we have several days below freezing. I plan on keeping the space heater going for a few days. Thanks for showing us all of the things, those piglets are adorable!

This cold spell has been a lot of fun, hasn't it?! We've been at -17f with a wind up to 46 mph. Unreal! Everyone survived and the vehicles all started! Merry Christmas!!

The house I grew up in had a wood/coal chute! We had a fireplace, so every fall stacked wood that we threw down the chute! I was blessed that my walk-in closet was against the chimney, so I could get dressed in the warmth! Oh, funny story- the wood chute came in handy when we locked ourselves out of the house! Being the smallest, I got to crawl thru the chute into the wood room, then go unlock the front door. :)

We are under a winter weather warning here so I decided to make a few sugar cookies, chocolate frosted banana drops and a Jewish coffee cake for Christmas. Why? Because I just need to with all the NASH and no salt foods I’m enduring so I NEED something with flavor. I LOVE gingerbread cake…warm with cool whip on it. Might just need to make that too😂😂😂. I think that is such a great thing for Farmer Dan to do with the littles…and not so littles because those are the memories of future years sitting around the holiday food table and reminiscing. Jack was raised in an IGA store and trust me the stories made you cry in laughter. Owning a grocery was a serious way to observe all kinds of folks do all kinds of things which would have been a great place for a writer!!! Chelsea girl…you and Dan have so many gifts so being a homesteader is just made for you and I’m so grateful that you share just a glimpse of life on LMR with us. I hope you keep going with your vlogs on a regular basis as you’ve been doing these past months. I absolutely LOVE our visits. I have a 4 bedroom house but I use one room as a cold storage and one for a grow room. I also keep my freeze dryer in that room and running that also helps keep the room warm.

WOW! That is cold! With the Arctic blast moving through the USA it is pretty cold right now. Here in Kentucky the windchill was -30 this morning at 8 am. Times like this I am glad I don't have outdoor animals to take care of.🥶

When my husband and I combined a family with a total of 9 kids, and they all lived with us!!! We grew three quarters of an acre garden, and we also had a small orchard as well, every year. We raised our meat as well! I canned everything you could think of right down to our pie fillings. Our food was the best and tasted so good. We are older now and miss that hectic life !! You remind me of a little bit of me in the past. I love your videos and your content. Merry Christmas!

We had -53 F here in Montana yesterday and nothing would start either! What a nightmare! We had a liter of piglets right before this blizzard hit also but luckily, our big pig barn is heavily insulated and stays very warm. LOVE the gingerbread recipe and Im going to try it just as soon as I catch up with all the house chores that fell behind during this recent storm.

I'm so loving your videos Chelsea. I loved them when you first started making them and sooooo glad you're back and making longer videos and so often. Loving seeing the piglets. I spent my 50th birthday at Niagara Falls, I have a school friend who lives in Fort Erie, Ontario, so I've been at least in Canada in the summer. I live just outside Glasgow, Scotland and we don't get great weather but not as cold as you, last week it was -11C. Unfortunately Fort Erie are having awful weather right now, blizzards etc. Can't wait to see what you've got for us in the New Year. Thank you so much for sharing your life with us xxx

We have -15, -37 windchill. I was taking a shower and the water filled around my feet. Took the drain cover off and there was ice. Turned the water on as hot as I could stand and it melted the ice and drained the water.

I totally enjoyed it!! Here in South Louisiana it rarely freezes but we got down to 15° F & winds were 25 mph with 90% humidity so it was insane. Today we won't get above freezing & will be 20°F tonight & it will be like this for a few days. I do love snow with low humidity

Beautiful! Love your homestead! Over the years we have scrambled with livestock and the cold and one year we threw together a house for some winter piglets. If your sow had some pallets thrown together and wrapped in plastic she would be out of the wind and could trap heat. Pigs always eat all the bedding its tough. Good luck. Merry Christmas.

Wow! Dan is creative! Your grow room will be a wonderful addition to your homestead. My experience with mold is that the spores are always in the air in warm, humid places! With all those damp growing trays you may have to have great air movement to stop it?

I made chocolate ginger bread cookies with 2- 1/4 cup of coffee and Coco powder. I have a recipe they get ate fast. Plus 12 other cookies we make up so many and give them out to elders who are alone with coffee and a new mug. They have family that just gave up on them it's so sad. But we adopted them so they have us.

@@LittleMountainRanch I'm so happy to share seeds with you and your family. I'm sharing with three friends and family members also. Not everybody gets excited about gardening. I light right up just talking about gardening. I absolutely love being in the garden. I'm making some carrot seed disc's over the winter. I usually make carrot seed tape with toilet paper, flour and water. I skipped the tp. So far I have around 600 done. At least I won't waste seed by thinning out the carrots. It makes calm peaceful time for me during the off season. Have an awesome day.

Watching this while making peanut butter blossom cookies. I’ve coated the kisses in red candy coating and am going to pipe white around the bottom and a ball at the point. I have little holly-shaped sprinkles to put in the white band. Pretty proud that I came up with the idea myself. (Break arm patting own back…lol). So happy I retired last January!

I would absolutely love a clothing video going over the appropriate clothes needed for your climate/area. We hit -35° F wind chill yesterday and into this morning. While we have clothes that will keep us warm to tend to the animals, it's layers on layers on layers.
