12k views in less than 24 hours. I wasn't expecting this! Apart the video where I filmed live the fight of Hamilton & Perez in Turkey '21 & the tribute for Michel Mouton years ago, this is my third most viewed video after only less than 24 hours of publishing it. Thank you all! Why this means a lot to me is because of the fact that I started this youtube account from scratch, after losing almost 20 years of work I previously had on two other accounts where I posted videos ever since 2005. Anyway, because I read that many plan or hope to go soon to this place, I will share my experience which might be helpful to some and another - to put this video into perspective better. About this trip, specifically to the statue of the great Ayrton Senna, like I've said in the description of this video, just month prior I had no plans whatsoever to come here. My girlfriend suggested trip to Bologna because of cheap tickets and she jokingly said that "there are even museums for you, those of Ferrari" at which point I realized that I never actually checked, were any motorsport landmarks nearby?! I find out that Modena is roughly 20km on the north, Imola 20km on the south. My eyes lit! I had to visit this place! Long story short (I will write with more details maybe in another video) After a day in Bologna we went in Modena & Maranelo & on the way back, while in the train, I felt very weak, it was from the food poisoning me & my girlfriend had day prior arriving in Bologna, and the virus was now taking toll on me. Hour after midnight on the day I drove in the simulator in Maranelo (video I posted) - I felt very strong stomach pain & urge of throwing up. Rushing on the way to the bathroom I completely collapsed in the hallway. Falling like a tree braking a medieval kitchen door in the process with the back of my head. I could barely recall how it happened, I thought I lost balance - I only saw the next day on security camera - that I barely walked, stopped for a second, and collapsed completely falling backwards. Luckily, apart some strong pain around my butt and 300 euro fine for the door, my head was fine. Another day in Bologna and then Imola. That meant I had only 24 hours to rest before visiting Imola - for which my girl was strongly against considering what just happened. So we made a deal, dully taking all pills, lots of vitamins, strict diet for 24h so we are sure nothing alike the day before happens again, so all had to be done quickly in Imola. The world could go upside down, I wasn't missing it. The morning I woke up like kid before Christmas. We walked 5km fast or 50min to the train station and missed our train, two tickets for Imola that we booked prior wasted - we were planning on taking taxi to the station but taking taxi proves to be impossible unless you have an app and ours wasn't working. I booked another two tickets for train in 30minutes. 10:30 we were on the train, 30min to Imola. I am okay, no stomach pain. Only anxious to see the statue. We arrived in Imola on the small train station, we go out to a long two way street, and I am thinking - "this is the place every F1 driver went through. Probably Senna himself." - leading up to some medieval square to which we walked another 20min - along the way among the verdant trees sneaking through I spot banners of Senna helmet colors, and the 30th anniversary event. I no longer felt any trouble walking, or any pain. I was full of adrenaline and only goosebumps! We were near! Taxi still nowhere to be found so desperately we pleased salesman in local shop to call one for us. We got in and after literally 2 min drive we were in front of the bridge of Imola. Finally we arrived! All those races I've seen as a kid on TV, all those documentaries about Senna, now were flashing right in front of me. It wasn't that hard to locate it, but I wasn't all alone, and we had no idea whether my mood was due to the pills or just adrenaline, and how longer will they keep me okay. Without any hesitation I make step forward & race track workers with official badges stop me from entering, they say there is World Endurance Championship so we cannot enter, although my first knowledge from researching was that the Senna statue is accessible, located in public park - not true - they point to a barrack nearby and I run to it. Final boss before we finally reach the place I so much wanted to see! Two tickets for two for friday which were 60 euros in total - for all I care if she asked 600 euros I might have paid those too! I came all that way I wasn't returning now. We entered, going across the bridge I feel like I am now threading on a holy ground. We reach the entrance of the paddock on the left, on the right a path leading under a bridge. We come out on the other side, the infield & first sign - Ayrton Senna Statue to the right. We follow that path. We come to another sign, says further to the right. We follow that path too. In less than a minute on my right side behind the bushes the first tributes appeared and my heart started beating faster. Surely enough, right behind the bushes along the track, I realized that's the Ayrton Senna statue. Now all kind of people daily go in there like it's a normal every day thing - and I understand that, but to me going there for the first time, to me it wasn't just going to a place of a statue of a fallen F1 hero. It was coming home to the place from where through a course of circumstances, in me it was ignited a lifetime passion and fascination with racing & speed. Where all it begun! His legacy will live on forever!

I went to Italy the first time as a young adult. I was going through a dark time and wanted to go back home to where my family were from. I hired an Alfa GT, and drove from my uncles house in Vicenza to Imola on a sunny week day. I went to the gift shop and bought a Senna S Tshirt, walked to Tamburello and just sat there and spoke to him for about 30 minutes. I was only 10 when he died but he was and always will be a hero of mine. The best there was and the best there ever will be. Saudade Campeon! Michael from Australia. Will see you up in the sky Champ watching you race against all the other legends.

The red and white overalls of Maclaren suited Ayrton much better than the blue and white overalls of Williams. I wish he had listened to Sid Watkins and gone fishing instead of insisting on racing that weekend of hell. I'm convinced he didn't really want to after Roland Ratzenberger's death and the accident of Rubens Barachello but unfortunately we can't turn the clock back. I'm surprised the FIA didn't cancel the race after the amount of bad luck that weekend had brought. It was one of the worst races I've ever heard of in the whole of formula one history. RIP Ayrton and all the racing legends who lost their lives doing what they loved most 😢

I was there that weekend, and the three memorials really hit me hard. Ratzenberger for complicated reasons. Villeneuve, well, I'm Canadian standing on hallowed Italian soil. Senna was different. Due to some travel and communication 'difficulties" I had been awake for 59 of the previous 60 hours and had walked 30km in 6 hours to get there for FP1 on Friday. On cobblestone and 'historic' Italian Via's. My feet were bleeding (I had popped several blisters), my legs were jello and I could barely stand. When I stood in front of Senna, it didn't matter. My pilgrimage was complete. I didn't mean to do it that way but the pain made it that much more real.

We might have crossed each other! My girlfriend was very tired from walking so i just ran to the monument of Vileneuve too! Great man and equally a legend of the sport. I had to see it. It isnt as special or there arent any tributes much to it but regardless. As for the Ratzenbergers memorial I couldnt get that far that quick so i turned back. Nice you reminded me to post some about it on 8th of May
@ryanstewart44448 ай бұрын
@@DuxDrive Villeneuve's memorial is about his life, Senna's is about his death. I went back and you and I stood on almost the exact same spot to get the shot of Senna's Last Corner. On the positive, the WEC race was amazing and aside from the Saturday monsoon an overall fantastic weekend, eh?
