Not a bad list - AC/DC, Maiden, Sabbath, Cream, Stones, Clash, Doors, Jimi Hendrix Experience, Zeppelin, Beatles, Kiss, Metallica, Rage Against the Machine, U2, Guns n Roses 👍🏽 I thought Deep Purple would be there. For my own personal preferences I would add Judas Priest and T. Rex.

I have always loved early Aerosmith....meaning the 70's Aerosmith. I don't mind the comeback in the 80's and I saw the Permanent Vacation tour when they passed through Toronto at the old CNE Stadium. I will always rank their debut record right up their among my favourite debut records of all time.

A list without Deep Purple, Thin Lizzy, Genesis, Blue Ōyster Cult, Sweet, Judas Priest, Dire Straits, just to name a few, but that found a place for absolutely garbage such as Nirvana and Rage Against The Machine can't be taken seriously.

"Garbage" nirvana were one of the greatest bands of the 90's and rage against the machine were incredible innovators of their subgenre, and both are MUCH MUCH better than the overrated queen

I would tend to agree. For a pure rock band Zeppelin hands down were the best and encompassed everything for what a true rock band was. Many will disagree but IMO the Beatles were more of a pop group. 60 years ago it may have been considered rock but is more pop music. In addition over 40 years later there is still a mystique about Zeppelin and I think their music holds up better than the Beatles and are arguably more popular today of the two "heavyweights." Their music doesn't sound as dated and is more relevant even today.

The Beatles have to be number one. No other band comes close to their almost supernatural talent. Led Zeppelin were great but they faded toward the end of their career. Even so, they should be in the top 5. 70's Queen were a top ten band but 80's Queen were not. Van Halen never did it for me. Nor Metallica. Nor the Eagles. The others deserve to be on the list. Anyone who calls The Doors overrated should have to give their ears back. They should be higher, as should The Who. The Beatles at number two is ridiculous. Metallica should not be in the top ten. And Kiss should not be in the Top 100. Not as bad as a Rolling Stone list, though.

I think Sweet should have been on this list, especially before one hit wonders like Oasis. They paved the way for the whole glam rock era, Desolation Blvd. is one of my favorite albums ever! Also, maybe Cheap Trick, another under rated band that deserves greater recognition.

Queen over the Stones and Pink Floyd is ridiculous, in my opinion - that is just my own opinion, of course. I'm pretty sick of hearing about how Queen is the greatest, most important, most influential band of all time from millennials and genZs that I know (my kids included). Of course, I have to accept that for them, this IS their reality and maybe I'm the one out to lunch. Anyway, personally I just don't see it. Undeniably talented but really not my cup of tea. Their lyrics are not generally very good IMO, their songs/performances do not engage me on an emotional level at all (in fairness, I've had Queen fans tell me that they feel this way about the Beatles, who do engage me on an emotional level, so this is obviously highly subjective), and I tire of their bombastic, over the top, swagger. They really remind of a bunch of 14 year old boys trying to impress each other. Zeppelin over the Beatles is hard to swallow, but I can accept it (grudgingly 🤣).

Yes, I would probably put Led Zeppelin (or possibly King Crimson) as no 1 if i had to make a list. Beatles are great but there are too many granny songs from Paul on their albums. Besides , i always thought of The Beatles as more of a pop band, albeit a great pop band. They are excellent composers when they want to. Bands I miss on that list: Mountain, Blue Öyster Cult, King Crimson, UFO, Judas Priest, Humble Pie, Yes, Queens of the Stone Age, CCR, Deep Purple.

First half of the list is very shaky. Prog rock acts like Yes, Genesis, King Crimson have been ignored. Alternative rock acts like Velvet Underground, The Smiths, The Cure, Talking Heads, XTC, Joy Division are missing. No post 2000 acts at all, like Queens of the Stone Age, the Strokes, Arctic Monkeys. I would also take others like Red Hot Chili Peppers, Ramones, Steely Dan over some of these names - Heart??

Interestingly for me the Beatles were my favorite group until I found Led Zeppelin at 14. Either could top the list but I think Zeppelin’s instrumentalists are a bit more accomplished. Not sure about Kiss though.

No, the Beatles aren’t number 1…in this list. This is a ROCK band list. Not the greatest band list. The Beatles never played longer than an hour live, Zeppelin played for nearly 4 and had 30 minute renditions of their songs. Complete game changers from a live rock perspective and still unmatched musically in their early days.

Whoever made the list should have titled it their favourite 30 rock bands of all time , not the best 30 rock bands of all time . Had the author done that , you can't argue with the choices . Oasis , Kiss , and Guns N Roses ( all wildly overrated , although I do like Slash as a guitar player ) are on the list , but not King Crimson , Yes , Genesis , Jethro Tull , Deep Purple , Santana , Roxy Music , Dire Straits etc . , all of which would be on my favourite 30 greatest rock bands of all time . @@zuni1919 Let's talk about 1966 when they stopped touring. The Stones, Who and Yardbirds were better live in 1966. In 1967 so was Hendrix and Cream, literally just a year after the Beatles stopped. Why DID they stop touring? All the other greats didnt. Screaming teens were the reason they gave yet Beatlmania had waned and they didnt even sell out Shea Stadium in '66. It was 1/3 empty. It wasn't as manic in 1966 as it was in 1964 and 1965 and by 1967 flower power and chilled out hippies replaced screaming teeny boppers. Compare The Beatles 1969 rooftop performance with Zeppelin on Danmark tv a couple months later and while ok (I actually think it's pretty staid) it's hardly amazing like the Zep performance. Yes, we'll agree to disagree. Best wishes.

CCR was one of the biggest bands after The Beatles broke up in 1970. They should have been somewhere in this list. Led Zeppelin over The Beatles I don't quite understand either, considering some of Zeppelin's music were blatant rip-offs of other blues songs.

Hi Larry to me the Stones should be the number one they made way more great albums than any of those other bands even on the albums that were less great had some great songs on them. All the others either bowed out way earlier or produced way less or the quality of the later music was often lacking. I know the Stones call themselves the greatest rock and roll band in the world I agree with them.

I suppose you could say that The Beatles’ music was so diverse that they weren’t a Rock band 100% of the time, whereas Led Zeppelin were definitely a Rock band 100% of the time; but overall The Beatles are certainly the most important band of all time. P.S. What, no Deep Purple? Top ten easily.

That's true about most of the Brian Johnson years, but the Bon Scott years weren't like that. After For Those About to Rock, they just kept repeating the formula.
