Thank you for showing my picture. I'd of never gotten it done without your help, and learning all the steps I had to go through getting it done. That lace! I'll be waiting awhile before trying to do it again! Lol. By the time I got that done, I had to walk away from the picture for about a week, lol. I've never seen the video on the background of the bubbles! Omg! I love it! Going to have to go check it out! And try them! Love all your pictures you have shone, thanks for sharing! 😉 ❤.

Just discovered your page and videos. You have taught me so much! You are such a great teacher, I love listening to you. Besides being a great teacher you are one hell of an artist. I'm new to adult coloring and everything you said about being scared of backgrounds is true. I can't wait to use all of this new knowledge. Thank you.

Thank you! I have the tools and paint for the dots on my wish list for Amazon. My daughter actually uses it for my Christmas gifts. I will try really hard not to buy them...lol. I loved hearing your voice again! It is easy to relax and learn when I hear you speaking. You have a calming voice with a great tone. I have missed you chatting with us...Puff & Mina stories too! Thank you for your willingness to teach us & all the time you take to do so. I'm quite aware that reading & answering emails, video editing, voice overs, and tutorial prep is time consuming. It makes what you do for us much more precious.

Yes thank you for this video very informative and i look forward to watching all these background tutorials . you mentioned that it is difficult to go over wax pencils like prisma and you are so right. trying to outline over wax is damaging my sharpies and pens and i'm wondering if there is anything i can use to trace or go over my prismas that won't clog and ruin the utensil.
@ColorMyWorld11 ай бұрын
I have used a workable fixative, but remember once you decide to use it the wax will no longer blend out. This is good for doing layers you don't want the color to mix and it provides a drop of protection for the outliners (not that much). Thicker sharpies do better than those tiny outline markers.

Thank you for this, I actually hate doing backgrounds because they waste so much of my pencils and I was actually considering using pastels like pot pastels I guess what they're called and just using some colors to background it out

I never do background with pencil. Hardly ever i use soft pastel. I use Brusho if i want bright and unpredictable washes, White nights watercolour or gouache if i want predictable result. Arteza gouache is ok. Best, smoothest and even colour i get with Turners acrylic gouache. In Hanna karlzon books i make background in contrasting colours. I make contrasting backgrounds wherever it is possible if it is not landscape or street scene. I hate bokeh backgrounds. Realy hate those bokeh bubbles. Do not know why:) I totaly fail with Arteza metallic acryl. Every time i try to make smooth background i have to "repair" it with blotting other colour with sponge or specialty brushes (like foliator or fan brush). With that acryl i manage just add details and lines here and there on top of watercolour or brush pens. I like when You teach art principles. I find those videos very usefull. I'dlike to see more videos about light and shade, reflected light, different light sources and types of light, night scenes. I liked all videor from Klara Markova books. Sadly for me its difficult to apply it to my colourings because i prefer brushes and water and from all pencils prismas are my least favorite. Why You never make videos using other mediums than prismas? It would be interesting to watch You paint. I bet You paint in loose style(judging from how You use pencils) what i like very much in watercolour. Currently learning (from books) to watercolour in more loose style flowers and street scenes, but of course my work is more sloppy than artistically loose.

I’ve been olouring for the past 5 years now and I still avoid backgrounds. The only one I’m comfortable with is soft pastels. I’m quite happy leaving large areas blank. Every time I try to colour large areas, they always look bad.
@raggedblossom5085 жыл бұрын
There's nothing wrong with leaving areas blank, if you're not sure. Sometimes the foreground picture is striking enough in itself. Or you can always come back to the background later. 😊
@patriciamoore74145 жыл бұрын
Deirdre, I fully understand where you are coming from. I have the same fears and have ruined some nice pages with the wrong background choices. But, that being said, I feel more confident after watching Lori's background tutorials. I want to do clouds and fog, I just have to find the right picture.

Lori. I am working on a picture with main colors of browns, grays and light tan. It’s 2 owlets in a tree with rocks. Would orange be too stark for background?

Probably. I would test it first. Green may be better
