Of course, it should be noted that the wrong kind of fat and a high calorie diet is what can be bad for you. While a lot of high quality fat and animal protein diet; and in the meantime having less calories and minimizing carbohydrate and sugar intake should be good for you.

My dad and his siblings grew up working on a sweet potato farm, which meant they probably ate it every day. He has 4 brothers and 4 sisters. He still has 3 sisters and one brother all in their 90s. He is currently 101 y/o and doing fine.

The Okinawans used to get 80% of their calories from sweet potatoes. The Samurai apparently at closer to 90% of calories from sweet potatoes. It’s mostly fiber and water by weight. They fill you up so you’ll eat fewer calories. They are also only about 8% protein by caloric volume, which helps keep cancer risk low.

Interesting! I love making sweet potato smoothies. I use vanilla protein powder and frozen sweet potatoes and nutmeg and Ceylon cinnamon and cloves and sometime a bit of frozen ginger root! So good.

If you left out the protein powder, it would be even more healthful. Too much protein is a killer! Just look up what too much protein does to your kidneys just for starters (never mind how it contributes to so many other nasty degenerative health conditions). We need very little protein if truth be told. Nobody ever died from not enough protein since there is protein in everything. Millions have died from too much.

I am going through menopause and I did sweet papotes for 1 month now. This is what happened. So ironic ! I have been on keto for about 7 weeks now and i'm having dull pain in my right side chest. Little scared but started reading and found that low blood sugar may cause this. Them I', likw, what can I do to add just a few carbs to my diet in hopes of eradicating this pain. Well out of the blue I thought I'm going to try Sweet Potatoes. Today I bought a couple, microwaved one and ate half of it after it cooled down. We'll see if this makes the pain subside some. I'm 68 yo man. 159 lbs (was 169, 8 weeks ago). 5'7". Boil sweet potatoes for 45 minutes and discard the water to limit your oxalate intake. Plus boiling in water is a good way to limit the amount of sugar conversion. Baking converts the most starch to sugar, boiling converts the least.

Fun fact if you cook and cool down the sweet potato, it becomes a resistant starch , so 30% if the carbs become indigestible, yielding less carbs per sweet potato, and providing your gut buddies more fiber that they crave to produce more butyrate

Question...I've been doing carnivore for 3 mos. Love it. Feel great. But...I'm losing too much muscle despite training because i just can't get enough calories on carnivore alone. When I had to put my self on AIP. I ate a lot of sweet potatoes (Mostly Yams). They helped a lot at first. Then after about 3 weeks. Every time I ate Sweet Potatoes I would get serious stomach cramps. I don't know what happened. I still avoid Sweet Potatoes because of that experience, but I believe I can have them in moderation again.

Insoluble fibre can be harder to digest… I stick to courgette, broccoli, asparagus, lettuce, celeriac etc as they are mostly soluble fibre and more gentle (for me at least!)

Also important to note: food sensitivities are SO highly personal. We all have unique microbiomes and biochemistry. If something repeatedly worsens IBS symptoms, it’s probably best to avoid (at least for a while). Eggs and apples are two foods that don’t work well for me, but are staples in other people’s healthy diets. What’s healthy for one person, can be inflammatory for another. :)

Ironic timing for this video. I've recently been making sweet potato flatbread from scratch with dark orange sweet potatoes. I'll cook and eat them with cheese, a little mayo, and sometimes organic refried beans. I've been eating it almost daily and have noticed a lot less inflammation with my RA arthritis. I suspected the flatbread was helping out somehow. Your video supports that. Thanks for the video!

Its "Sten" lol, and yes! And he promotes Low Carb and variety too. His no carb stance is specifically because most of us are already damaged and Insulin Resistant and we have to cut them out to heal enough to become Insulin Sensitive. Once we are in control of our Insulin Sensitive state of being Then just manage low carbs into diet. He promotes this type of diversity too, just let us know it works when we are Healthy already. The SAD diet has so many of us in a unhealthy state after years and years of eating wrong.

My Grandmother lives to be 97 years old and ate baked sweet potatoes everyday! She also ate a lot of fried foods being from the south! She grew her own vegetables and raised her chickens never ate processed food!
