The blackening leaves may be due to watering with tap water, which if it contains chlorine or fluoride can damage the plant. Use distilled water. That said, leaves will die anyway. The mould visible in the plant bed may be due to direct watering - the roots should sit in water, rather than pouring it into the plant. The upper parts should remain dry to prevent mould growing. The plant growing a flower is a sign of stress. If you let it flower, it will put a lot of energy into it, and that can be enough to kill the plant. Consider pinching off the flower stem as soon as you see it, and ensure it has enough water. Remove the black leaves often to avoid rot setting in.
@loveroffilms6436
@loveroffilms6436 Жыл бұрын
Not quite. The reason for the black areas on the venus was obvious deterioration caused by the larvae the plant attempted to ingest, which is why a swarm of flying insects was circling the plant to eat it. They extract a goo that tarnishes or disassembles dead organisms.

It's completely normal for the old traps to die off while new ones take their place (just as long as all the traps are not suddenly dying off). There are also other ways traps die off, which, yes, some can be due to wrong water (heavily depends on where you live, some tap water are actually safe but do research first and use a TDS metre for testing), usage of the wrong potting medium or other reasons. However, the trap with the larvae seems to have died because it was unable to fully close and form an airtight seal before producing digestive juices. The reason for the airtight seal is so that bacteria does not get in while the trap is digesting, and if bacteria do get in, well, the trap's chances of turning black increases. Some traps do survive though. For the mould part, I don't think it's caused by top watering (if the person does do top watering). Mould forms in damp and poorly ventilated areas. For outdoors in summer, mould is not a problem because full sunny positions and with the wind blowing around kills the growing conditions for mould. As for indoors, some people turn on a fan in the room to get some air circulation. But yes, I do agree that the dead traps should be removed. And as for the flowering, it's fine to let plants to flower, but generally, it's recommended to cut them off because the FTs take up a lot of energy to flower, especially for smaller plants (100% cut them off for smaller plants).

The blackening leaves are due to a over release of gastric acid when they have a meal that is too big, obviously

The most likely reason traps die when catching a prey is because if the prey is too big or is partially sticking out, causing the flytrap to unable to form airtight seals to digest the prey. The airtight seal prevents bacteria from entering and from what I've seen, often the traps die (some survive the ordeal, healthy as ever) but they still absorb some of the nutrients and this encourages new growth. I'm a little iffy on how often traps die. Some say it should open and close 6-10 times, but if taken care of, they should be able to close more. Apparently someone had a trap open and close 19 times. As for how often new traps grow, I'm not sure. One of my VFTs has one dying trap (just finished digesting a prey) and yet I'm seeing three new traps growing.

why would u feed your venus flytrap an oversized insect? u knew it was way too big for it to digest. the trap wasnt able to completely seal, leading to probably an infection, leading to the rotting, and eventually the death of that trap
