This could be a win-win if Sony got unlimited access to all Disney films. We could have great physical media releases, and Disney could use the movies for their streaming services. Hopefully, Sony will do some remixing of previously released 4K movies - looking at you PoC Curse of the Black Pearl. LOVE to see the theatrical versions of the OT Star Wars movies. Plenty of movie choices for all.

Rocketeer, Stakeout, and especially Dick Tracy (which would look amazing in 4K). And speaking of John McTiernan films: the remake of The Thomas Crown Affair and The 13th Warrior. I also took notice of the fact that Walt Disney's The Black Hole was only available as a Disney Movie Club release. Would be nice to see that mistake rectified.

Thanks so much for watching John! Yeah there are a ton of films we still need on 4K. We've seen some great titles released on the format, but even when I was just looking at the total list of 20th Century Fox releases alone, there are literally hundreds of movies in that library going back to 1935. Some of our biggest movies -- in terms of being culturally iconic -- still need 4K releases. Really hoping the Sony deal results in us seeing a lot more of these films released on the format.

It appears to be owned by Disney/20th Century Fox, but maybe they licensed it out to Paramount for the blu-ray release at some point? I'm not really sure what's going on there. Very odd situation. Maybe it has something to do with Cruise's associations with Paramount, etc. But now you have me wondering if a Paramount release might be possible (though it's not clear what's going to happen to Paramount at this point either... with the potential Warner Bros/Paramount merger).

The biggest problem of physical media is xbox stopping physical game releases, rumours kept growing about Microsoft laying off their entire physical games team, and now they will supposedly replace the xbox series x with a new digital only console in June. First party titles like Hellblade 2, is a digital-only release (and rumours say Indiana Jones and the Great Circle will be too) or the xbox exclusives on PS5 will get a physical copy but made by Limited Run Games, which is a boutique label for videogames. And might seem that movies and games are not related, but the mexican pressing plant is making 90% of optical discs sold in America, (including Xbox games) without the production and revenue of those games, the prices of physical movies will skyrocket. Sony stopped manufacturing optical discs in US like 3 years ago, due to the decline in sales, all PS4/PS5 game discs are made in Austria (Sony DADC)

Unfortunately, 28 Days Later would likely not transfer to 4K very well, because the majority of the film was shot on video (literally on a camcorder, capped out at 720x576 resolution). It was the filmmakers' intent to give the film a low-definition, gritty look... but unfortunately, they didn't "future proof" the film or think far enough ahead with this one. Dick - this film tells a future where we very well could get to with “predictive A.I.” studying human psyche. Fight club - MASTERPIECE! Must have on 4k! Another fav of mine… And my God - The Fly! I did just finally pull the trigger on that scream factory box set but the OG Fly - I can’t believe Scream hasn’t done a 4k yet! Love the selections brother! 👍🏼

Thanks Ken! Yeah Minority Report is so good... and honestly, I would say that we're not too far away from that "future," which is a little concerning. Of course, my biggest concern is who programs, inputs the data and controls that "predictive AI." And sometimes I worry that we're not heading the warnings of some of our biggest sci-fi classics (like Minority Report or Terminator). I've been on the fence about getting that Fly box set. I only really care about the 1986 film and have been kind of holding out for a 4K, but maybe it might not be a bad idea to have the other films in the collection. Appreciate you tuning in my friend!

Oh you have GOT to see Strange Days! Its a top 3 for me. I bought the region free German Blu, because I'm a huge fan. But I would love to see a US release!
@TheOriginalFuzz9 ай бұрын
I just noticed last night it's available on streaming (can't remember which service... HBO maybe), so now my dilemma is, do I buy a blu-ray now and get the best quality currently available for my first-time watch, or do i just stream it and wait/hope for a 4K to come later on? LMAO! Tough call... I might just have to get the blu-ray and risk the double dip... it is Cameron and Bigelow, after all! LOL! I'll have to see what blu-ray editions/options are available... I haven't even looked. Does it not have even a blu -ray release in the U.S.?
@brockmckraken9 ай бұрын
Yeah,no US Bluray release. Which has bugged me..its one of those titles that I guess the rights were never worked out. Thats why when you mentioned it, I had to especially agree. I was not aware that Disney owned this, I guess I should have. It has a piece of future tech that is VERY interesting. But yeah, Max now has it. You'll love it.

@TheOriginalFuzz9 ай бұрын
Oh hell yes! The Negotiator!!! That would be a Day One purchase for me on 4k. I can't believe I forgot about that one, or I definitely would've put that on my list... probably in place of something else. But an awesome film. As for Tombstone, no i just never got around to it. I was never really into westerns much, so i just kind of ignored it. But looking at it now, I'm way more interested... because I absolutely love everyone in that cast. Looks like an incredible cast. At the very least, I need to get it for my Michael Biehn, Bill Paxton and Kurt Russell collections LMAO!

@@TheOriginalFuzz well if it makes you feel any better, i am not and never have been a Western guy myself. But, the performances in Tombstone are just phenomenal, especially from Val Kilmer. Yeah man check that one out asap. And The Negotiator is def a Day One for me too!🤙🏻

Honestly I can’t really tell whether the deal with Sony is going to be beneficial as in Sony releasing unreleased movies on physical media or 4k remasters of old movies. My guess would be yes and i’m hopeful that this is the case. This does most likely mean that movies such as the MCU etc are going to be higher quality with possibly/hopefully IMAX? The die hard movies are the ones i’d like to see in 4K. I have yet to own those movies in my collection because deep down I’m still hopeful that they’ll release it on 4k.
@TheOriginalFuzz9 ай бұрын
From what Bill Hunt/The Digital Bits reported, Sony is going to be releasing both new movies and older catalog titles on physical media. Disney is essentially licensing out their entire library (or collection of libraries) to Sony and letting Sony handle all the physical media distribution from now on (in the U.S. and Canada), presumably so that Disney can focus on their streaming model, content and other endeavors. It's true we don't totally know what that is going to look like yet, but apparently, Sony will be involved with both the newer films and the older films (on all formats... 4K, blu ray and DVD). It sounds pretty encouraging. I think it all comes down to how much independent control Disney allows Sony to have over this stuff. As for the Die Hard franchise, I would think those movies would be pretty high on the list if Sony has anything to say about it. Thanks for weighing in!

@@TheOriginalFuzz That is amazing! When it comes to quality i’ll pick Sony over Disney any day of the week!

My biggest issue is the cost of 4k movies I have completely stopped buying them, how do I justify paying $80 - $100 plus for a movie that I already own, I'm quite happy with bluray at this point in time. I paid $3 for Rocketman bluray yesterday picture and sound was great
@TheOriginalFuzz9 ай бұрын
I totally understand... If I had to pay that much for 4K titles, I'd feel the same way. I'll almost never pay that much for a single film (even for deluxe limited edition sets). I'm guessing you must be in a region where it's a lot more expensive to collect? Most new release 4K titles I pick up are like $25-$30, maybe sometimes a little higher (
@DaveC1983.9 ай бұрын
@@TheOriginalFuzz I normally pay $25-$30 second hand every couple of days looking at ebay or market place, our biggest retailer for movies has had any new 4k titles in a long time I'm in Australia 🇦🇺 so you think the prices wouldn't be that over priced
@TheOriginalFuzz9 ай бұрын
@@DaveC1983. Ooooh gotcha! I completely understand now. Yeah Australia is getting screwed on physical media in many ways, I've heard... especially with Disney backing out of Australia. It sounds like collecting 4K has become quite pricey over there. I'm sorry man, that sucks. I'd be doing the same thing as you in that situation... blu-ray is absolutely still a solid format and looks great (and still accounts for probably 60 percent of my own physical media collection, with 4K being most of the other 40 percent).

@TheOriginalFuzz I had this discussion with a colleague the other day. Why would anyone shell out so much for a hard copy when they can pay a streaming service for half the price. I'm am the 10% of the world population that spent a monster on great setup so I can definitely see the befits of the physical copy

I'm skeptical about how much access Sony will get to the catalogue titles from Fox and Hollywood Pictures. If it does happen, the two titles at the top of my wish list are M*A*S*H and The Rocky Horror Picture Show.
@TheOriginalFuzz9 ай бұрын
Yeah I totally understand... that's the big question mark here, I think. But I'm optimistic about it, because I know Disney got rid of most of the knowledgeable people in their home media dept and shrunk the dept down to a shadow of its former self. So they don't have experienced people there anymore who even know what they own or what titles are in their own libraries. Apparently, this deal has been in the works for several years, so I'm thinking that giving Sony a significant chunk of control over the decision-making could be a big part of the deal. After all, I can't imagine Sony being cool with jumping through all the ridiculous hoops of the clown-show Disney bureaucracy. I'm guessing there has to be some kind of streamlining of the process baked into the deal, because I figure it needs to be a good deal for Sony too, or they wouldn't agree to it. Disney is basically licensing out their entire catalog (and acquired libraries) to Sony, so I'm thinking Sony takes on most of the risk, and then Disney just collects a cut from the sales. I'm just not sure if Sony would even enter into an agreement that effectively ties one hand behind its back. So that's what's got me thinking Disney might be giving up some of that control.
