Use RIT "Taupe" dye to darken it up. Turns the white portions of ACU into a tan color and darkens up the green/gray areas. Turned out well for me.

Yup. I used brown rig dye to darken my blouse and ruck sack. It works awesome. This pattern is super cheap and so is the dye. It's a great way to prep gear for others in your group.

What sold me was when you showed how to attach it to the 5.11 plate carrier as I run the exact same carrier and color. I liked how now I can take all the crap off of my plate carrier and run one kit either using the harness or attaching to the PC. My cousin had this when deployed for 18 months, he ended up also using another chest rig in coyote brown above it carrying even more amunition and his radio. Never heard alot of complaints about it other than him complaining about the ammount of ammo he carried being ridiculous for most things.

I was able to buy the panel (alone) in OCP from Sportsman's Guide as DRMO. It was on backorder forever. The only harness straps I could find were in the ACU sage color. A quick trip through the apple green Rit dye and the straps came out as a nice dark "army" green. I was disappointed to find that my plastic mags wouldn't allow the Velcro straps to cover. Luckily I had a bunch of aluminum magazines. I was hoping I would like it a lot more than I do. It will work fine enough as a patrol type of rig...but my LBV88 works even better in that in that roll.

$30 gets you one magazine insert for the Spiritus Thing2 which is a blank velcro placard with 2 radio pouches on it and no straps that starts at $75. So if you want to be a super cool operator, you would have to spend enough to buy around 10 TAPS rigs.

I watched this video about a month ago but I wanted to come back and say I've recently found a cool trick you can do with the acp hydration pack and wanted to share it. I got this hydration backpack for free and I was thinking of ways I could use it when I realized I can fold it on itself and use the MOLLE panel on the bottom to attach pouches to. And reverse the straps to make and h or x harness chest rig. I managed to fix three M16 pouches on the main panel and two utility pouches on the side. Sorry for the long comment I just wanted to share this because this video kinda gave me the idea for it.

TAPs are not the worst rigs that were ever devised for sure. I have seen some really great modifications for these TAPS that have made them considerably more convenient and effective. The Y harness isn't all that great but you can add 2 repair buckles to the side and get another strap set to have a better more comfortable harness. The biggest issue with the TAP is to get it to where it is actually a good functional rig you would be better served just buying something a little more expensive. I do like me some TAP but if you don't want UCP you're gonna spend almost as much as a better option that's just as "WAR" ready because Nylon is Nylon at the end of the day and issued doesn't mean good.

Great find and may just be the thing I need to get started... But by the way Rothco is a US milltary contractor so saying their $70 cayote and $120 Multifcam new versions of this is a knock off is like saying a Colt AR-15 is a knock off of an Armalight AR-15. Any way they normally have great stuff for low prices you just need to get their older patterns or ones they make tons of which while their versions of this rig are well priced and you get multicam and brand new... For $38 this really can't be beat and ACU does look nice like air supramncy camo looks nice.

Picked one up at a Flea market for $5.00 dyed it apple green.... Works great, thought about modding it for AK mags tho.... ? AR style mags there's endless options for chest rigs, but AK your limited unless you wanna spend $100+ or go with the ol chicom 56 or 81...

My AR is a Colt SP1, I like the 20 round mags for it, so nothing fancy my first old chest rig was a WW1 grenade carrier, holds 11 , 20 rd mags there easy to get to, since it's basic, I wouldn't go to war with it, but in case of emergency it's a good grab and go set up. none of my gear is tactical cool. I still like and use the old ALICE gear; hope I'm not telling my age to bad. LOL

I picked one up for 10 bucks and have used it a couple times at the range Its pretty sweet I find putting a caribiner from the lower back part of the harness to my belt helps keep it from pulling heavily on my neck when its all loaded up... the 1st and 8th pouch can fit 20 round 308 mags

Get a surplus Chicom chest rig for around 20-30 bucks. Buy some hook and loop and sew it on to the pouches and remove the toggle latches. For way less than 50 bucks you can have a good rig. There are lots of videos if you just search Chicom chest rig.

Magazine stowage/retrieval is really easy with these things, surprisingly enough, and they're very durable. They're pretty bulky and abusive to your shoulders/traps. I never tried a different harness, though. All in all, if I was ever in a situation where I needed 8 magazines, I'd just wear a plate carrier - truthfully, I only own a plate carrier as a civilian. Something like a Haley Strategic Micro rig would be *nice*, but the likelihood of needing to do a long-rang recon patrol as a civilian seems much lower than the likelihood of doing something short-range, where a plate carrier isn't too much weight. All in all, though, I think this a great solution for someone who hunts in an area with lots of aggressive wildlife and doesn't want to spend a stupid amount of money just to hold fewer magazines. Just don't assume wolves are aggressive.

To each their own for 30 buck for someone starting out whatever. I can never get it to fit my body type right so I refused to run it, but my unit let's me use my own gear. But for someone who isn't using it day in day out and just needs something not my first pick but what I like for that price is getting harder to find, the Israeli recon chestrig I ran that for years and loved it *and still do, I only stopped using it when I got a good deal on a spirtus and that is what I went overseas with what I like to train with with the bat wings I can hold 7 mags before ppl ask not including my 2nd line that has 2 to 3 mags. UCP/(ACU) is a really great pattern for arid urban terrains and snowy winter places. it is so special that i have never seen any other pattern that worked as universal in the places that it worked in. look at the war in ukraine, this ccamouflage would blend in perfectly over there, especially urban combats,which now occurds much more frequently than old jungle woodland combat.people are giving it way too bad of a credit than it should have.

You have to look around but you can find it in ACU for the 30 bucks. The multi cam was more expensive everywhere I found it. I recommend getting the ACU and paint it or dye it.

No these won't work with AK magazines. They can fit in but you can't get them out again once they are in. This was designed specifically for M4 magazines.

I made my own from padded backpack straps and MOLLE strips n belting of the same material different widths. Many packs come with fast clips. Learn to see but look on eBay and Amazon they're there

Not sure, but I dont think so. It seems to be a little too tight for them. If you need an AK chest rig, get a Chicom surplus. There are a few good videos on here that show how to modernize it.

Grunt gear is usually pretty affordable and is good enough, most “cool guy/Gucci” gear is over engineered to some degree anyway.

@@arkansasoutdoorschannel1867 the word surplus increases the value i had some gnew digitcam oretex rain gear set (gen 3 level 6) for $112 thatnow cost 200 used so thinking about condor modual chest rig $53 or condor $40 6 pack holder chest rig simular to your video product have you had any experience with either other than folks saying condor is for airsoft LOL
