$30 Dollar DIY Motorcycle Top Case

If you are a value conscious rider a $30 Dollar Homemade Motorcycle Top Case is a great addition to any dual sport or adventure motorcycle. Sure there are bigger tougher, more secure optIons out in the world but you will pay handsomely for them. This cheap and easy to install $30 Top Case has performed well over thousands of miles of adventure riding on and off-road. I've used this same set up on my last two GS's and my trusty Husqvarna 701 enduro LR. This $30 Top Case has seen rain, snow, mud and on a few occasions has been up close and personal with the ground...and come away no worse for wear. This $30 Top Case is easily removable and replaceable. The case I've used in this install is the Plano 15 liter Utility Box (also marketed under a few different names ...Tactical Series Ammo Crate, or 16 qt Storage Crate, Marine Water Resistant Bin Storage Box in Grey) This is as big as is practical on my Husky 701. The box is reasonably water resistant but it is certainly not watertight. I would encourage you to explore the utility boxes and cases available to you in your market and find a size and shape that works best for you.

Like your video. My question is based on how close the box is to the fuel-tank filler opening, how easy is it to add fuel given that the today's fuel dispensers with the fume-capturing apparatus are quite bulky? Thank you.

This set up presents no obstruction whatsoever… The tusk rack is slightly raised and the box is sufficiently rearward that you should have no issue with access if you were to go with this configuration. Thanks!

I mounted the same box on mine back in October 2021 but I set mine where the lid will open over the seat since my motorcycle is small and only has room for one rider.

Cool! That makes your set up narrower which is nice too. I have a tendency to strap my tent in front of this box so I like to preserve the space between me and the box. I guess the best set up depends on how you use it. Thanks for sharing. 👍

Seems we have similar thought processes, I was at homedepot yesterday, saw this exact box and picked it up thinking I could make a top case out of it. I was looking up how I could mount it after I got home and came across your video lol
