If you are studying in the region of Campania then it depends where you go, somewhere like Amalfi or Sorrento will be very safe due to tourists. You might want to be careful in Napoli it isn't as dangerous as it was in the 70s, 80s and 90s but it is still controlled by the camorra (Neapolitan Mafia) and there are a lot of thieves and scammers other than that it is mostly organised crime in Naples so as long as you don't get involved with the camorra then they won't do anything to you so the thieves are what you mostly need to look out for but other than that you will probably be fine there it is a very nice city and there are many places outside of Naples that are probably safer.
