I have that problem of wanting to try to make everything perfect. I actually started playing with some watercolors lately and I’ve learned very quickly that you can’t make everything perfect in watercolor. You have to let it kinda be and just do what it does. So I think it’s actually helping me to loosen up some with my other work. Thank you so very much for your teaching! I don’t know why but I have been a bit intimidated by your roses! But v they are so beautifully done. So I have gotten things you’ve suggested to use when making your roses. So I’m just gonna dig in! Wish me luck!!
@JansenArtEducation4 жыл бұрын
Hi Julie, I painted watercolor for several years. I agree it helps loosen up but what did it for more, more than anything else was "timed" paintings. Giving yourself 30 minutes to finish a painting. Kept me moving. I read about it from master's teaching notes, then when my daughter got her BFA she said her college instructor had them do timed paintings immediately. It does work. Takes some practice but it does work well. That is why I do so many of them. 😃

@@JansenArtEducation Thank you David. Do you think I can apply this with oils? I'm not familiar with acrylics.
@JansenArtEducation4 жыл бұрын
Hi Mari, You would have to change a lot with the techniques. I work on dry layers. Oils blend too much for me. That is why I use acrylics. It is much better for you to find some roses you like with an oil painter. That will be less frustrating for you.
@Mari14Bella4 жыл бұрын

Trying to use up (old very fast drying) Speed-ball and Van Gogh, Acrylic before purchasing all new Heritage Paints and brushes. These are very shiny and when mixed with matte varnish (instead of water that lifts paint) still so shiny. Painted mural with latex and textured dry wall wears down brushes fast, nice matte finish even with eggshell. Is the Heritage shiny when mixed with extender or the other medium? I prefer a matte finish to images. Like the old " milk paints" in 1970's nice matte paint in a tube mixed well with water, no issues. Perhaps do as you say practice with a multitude of paintings to tame the acrylics and get a grasp of acrylic paint must be the way forward. Admire you expertise and generosity of knowledge Thank You David, the Dutch Master, David the Acrylic master. Great Art Teacher!

Thank you for this fantastic tutorial, so well explained as always, I really love that looseness, the final result is so much more expressive than a realistic style, it’s just amazing. Can I just make a suggestion for a different subject? Don’t get me wrong, I love the roses you do but, have you ever tried this loose style with tropical leaves? I think these plants have also a lot of movement (specially the banana leaf, or palm leaf) and perhaps could be a nice subject (quite appropriate as well now with summer approaching) maybe even with some tropical flower, I’m sure they would look amazing in this technique. Just a suggestion, Thanks again for all your tutorials, this is by far one of the best channels about art on youtube, all my best
