Agree: photo did not show that much red or grey...but that's the beauty of painting: it is a world of fantasy where imagination is allowed and actually desired! And i am a person who did not touch a paint brush since 14 years old (because i found it very hard back then and I was told by my mom that I am not talented). So i fed my soul with the beauty of the nature. But recently (like last week) i started to paint (because i could not find an affordable hand made picture for a friend and i find painting soooo cool! So what if i do not know where to place shadows and what color goes with what color? I can follow basic info on youtube and paint whatever i like.😉I whish i could buy oil colors because they blend so great but they are quite expensive for me (to use them just as hobby).

So I have a question. I'm a beginner artist and am wondering what you put on the canvas before you paint. If it's white oil paint or some medium that he mentions in the video. Or maybe both, I don't know. But I would love to know, I'd like to better myself in oil paints!!!

I tried this painting today, and I love how it turned out. He said he used a clear medium on the canvas first where the flower goes. Does anyone know what that might be? Linseed oil, perhaps? I mixed it with my paint, but I can tell my brush didn't move and flow like his did. I would love to know what type of brush he used as well. It doesn't look like he responds to posts, so any thoughts would be appreciated!

KK Daniels I have seen tubes of gel mediums being sold in art shops, you can try those! They are clear gels

He uses linseed oil but if you listen closely and watch he also mentions he used WHITE on some of the petals, at times I can catch a glimpse of white paint on the inside of some of the petals. Am not happy with them on the OLDER videos they made they would explain a lot more detail. On this they want you to buy the lesson to get the info.....is nothing more than them marketing their paint, photo (and he wants free ones sent to them ha) no traceable or photo and not clear instructions about the actual colors used by name nor any brush info. Sad it has come to this.
