What is the difference between a saltwater croc and a freshwater one?
@hemal7815
@hemal7815 Жыл бұрын
@@Chizlin2693 well, the first difference is in the name itself. Salties prefer dark murky salty water for stealthy attacks on big prey whereas the freshies swim in less saline water that is generally slightly clearer and they hunt small animals and fish. Secondly the size difference. The salties are the biggest crocodilian species in the world along with maybe the nile crocs, while freshies are comparatively a lot lot smaller. salties are super aggressive and territorial whereas freshies are less aggressive. There are a million more but there are some less technical ones.

#25 - That is a GIANT crocodile. You don't get a truly good perspective of it because it's video footage, and hard to tell the exact size, but the croc's head has to be bigger than a man's torso for sure. The guys reaction to seeing it is different from other croc videos too, you can tell right away he's struck with so much fear. He can't even say more than "Huge!" They were well aware of the fact that there was literally nothing they could do to stop it. The people in that video are really lucky to be alive.

That's in the Okavango Delta. I have been there and they use these small rivers and the paths of hippos through the reeds to avoid large Nile crocodiles. I remember when going on the river by kayak we would go off the main river instantly in to one the paths through the reeds made by hippos. So yeah he was really surprised and fearful to see such a large Nile croc there. It's totally unexpected. It also says something that they rather take the chance of encountering a hippo in a narrow path then staying on the larger croc infested rivers.

People seriously underestimate how protective mama crocs/gators are, they carry their babies on their back everywhere they go after sitting on and protecting their nest. And unlike other reptiles, they will dig their babies out of their nest instead of letting them dig out themselves. That dude was right though, baby started making a distress call (if you turn the volume up you can hear it, it’s like a little chirp) and mama came right over to protect baby. Good on her 🐊

Actually the story behind the crocodile and the man from sighting number #7 is really heartwarming The man's name is Ambo and the crocodile is called Riska ( you can hear the other guy calling its name video) Thet were not just some local people who approached a random crocodile but was looking for Riska. One day while Ambo was fishing he encountered the crocodile. (Not a fully grown yet but about three feet long). He noticed that a big plastic bag was caught in it's mouth and it was choking. Bravely Ambo jumped on the predator and tried to pull it's mouth open while wrestling with it. He pulled out the plastic and saved it from certain death. Not for long after ambo left the place he realized that the croc was following him and swam beside the boat. Ambo gave it some fishes and the croc followed him all the way near his house along the shore. Since then they've been friends and he named the croc RISKA. Riska would come visit Ambo and Ambo would go off with his boat looking for Riska if it doesn't show up as a pet owner would look for her dog. And when he finds it he would feed it fishes and chickens. Even Ambo's son grew atteched to it. Ambo would pet it and kiss it. And their friendship has been a miracle till this day.

For those who are unaware, alligators are very patient creatures and will lay around on banks or in the water in the same spot for hours at a time, waiting for their prey. Unlike crocodiles that are very impulsive and will most likely charge at you a lot more quickly. This alligator in #19 was just waiting patiently for his or her next meal to come along.

WRONG. Crocodiles are far more aggressive & dangerous vs alligators. I know because I've been living here in central Florida since 1969 and have been boating & fishing our lakes & rivers during all this time. I encounter gators, including big gators quite often. Here in Florida, there may be a gator attack only once every few years on average.....sometimes less. Crocodiles on the other hand, kill an average of 1000 ( ONE THOUSAND ) people EVERY YEAR. They claim the death toll to humans is even higher, because many of the fatal attacks happen in remote villages deep in Africa, where many are of these fatal attacks are never reported to the authorities. Look it up.
@howabouthetruth2157
@howabouthetruth2157 Жыл бұрын
Alligators AND crocodiles do not lay on the banks "to hunt". They lay on the banks to absorb the heat from the sun to speed up their metabolism, otherwise, they would remain very slow because they are cold blooded. ALL gators & crocs do their hunting from the water, where they can remain concealed from their prey that approaches the water's edge to either drink or bathe. Gators AND crocs can launch themselves onto prey standing at the water's edge ( or wading or swimming ) much quicker from the water using their tails mostly. They can't launch/pounce nearly as quickly on land vs in the water. However, both gators and crocs do on occasion crawl out of the water to capture prey ONLY if the prey is too far from the water's edge. This is very rarely though, because ALL animals have to drink from a lake, river, or creek sooner or later.

To me there isn't a more terrifying creature, the water they stay in alone freaks me out immensely. Not being able to see through it, something that size, completely cloaking itself, building speed, at the same wondering how many are in there, and where. I've been to Florida a few times growing up, mostly Marco Island, and part or Naples, the few times I've seen one up close made me freeze, staring one in the face, obviously from a distance, is horrifying.
