Even though it’s beautiful, as an artist myself I cannot understand how she wanted the place darker. I need all of the light possible, I think she didn’t think of that. The reference photos all had a window next to the desk, that's why it worked, but this doesn't have any direct light. But I love the storage.

Even if they gave enough lighting, this wall and ceiling color will totally alter her artworks colors and tones in this space so it won’t come out the same way in natural light or cool white. The organizers is awesome though

Very creative storage spaces but a cluttered desk doesn’t have much room for larger pieces. Also she asked for two moveable lamps to shine on her work in opposing directions. You need strong task light sources to prevent shadows
@NitrosMom074 Жыл бұрын
Not to mention that the dark paint color, though beautiful, totally skews the color of the artwork. Multiple Ott lights might help.
@Kath-Erina Жыл бұрын
Exactly, that was the only thing missing. But since the other lights are not hardwired and the tasklight is from ikea, she can easily just get another one (or two if she needs?) and mount it on the pegboard. I'm sure she'll be able to figure this one out, should be an easy fix! On that note she will probably reorganize the supplys to her needs (high traffic closest etc.) but that's the best part of this design in my mind because of the easily adjustable system

The desk and organization are terrific, and the color is beautiful, but I think it's way too dark for an artist to work in and figure out what colors go best with what. For me, such a dark color in a space that's 30 sf would be claustrophobic.
@martylovejoy Жыл бұрын
Already knew you were a talented artist and that you have a fun, friendly personality... but hearing you share that you've been in therapy for six years, in an effort to normalize therapy and promote Better Help, was really generous and compassionate - you are a real gem, Alexandra!
@jhutch1681 Жыл бұрын
I'd like to hear Grahame narrate his own projects. Since he's the designer it sometimes feels like you're repeating what he told you to say. Painting tip - when you are working over your head, wear a cap and safety goggles :) On camera, the colour reads as oxblood. I think for me, it would be too much dark to work by, but it looks very dramatic. I think I would have chosen a more terra cotta tone, or tried to brighten some of the space with a lighter colour (maybe a paler pink-er version of the colour on the ceiling, some white trim or desk top, etc.). I would choose bolder lighting (though I love the wall sconce), and added a mirror to bounce light. I would not be able to work facing the dark pegboard or wall. It's hard to tell from the video, but I wonder if the desk could have been placed in the opening of the space to face the room?
@LeslieStroz Жыл бұрын
This space provides lots of useful storage space. But that wall colour won’t work for an artist. The three dark green photos the client showed (or a neutral mid-gray) are what she needs to be able to paint without colour bias. She will also need to add two lights designed for artists (like she requested) to be able to accurately see her work in a realistic way.

Although the design is amazing, I’m not even sure that Ott lights would help in this dark space. An artist needs white studios so the wall paint color does not reflect onto the project.
@redj6681 Жыл бұрын
My first thought as well. A very good design except for the wall color
@amarketing8749 Жыл бұрын
The artist herself didn't want white walls. But I agree the lighting was an absolute miss. I think part of the problem is the decorator might be choosing from lighting options she was given. Not all of the walls and the pegboard should be all one color. One accent wall in the deep color and others in a complementary very light color. Using blonde wood or naturally stained light wood also would have made it less dark. In the end, the decorator's first priority, is what the client wants. EDIT: I commented BEFORE I knew she painted the ceiling the dark color too. Dark and moody is NOT DUNGEON DARK. Sorry this was a fail. She went too far with the paint and NO real lighting. It will take several coats of white paint on ceiling alone. Kinda sad.
@ac1646 Жыл бұрын
Wow. All the light is on the other side of the room anyway. What amazing windows! I can see why the nook seemed a good choice to store stuff, but it was too dark even with the white walls. I think it makes a great storage area and I love what Alexandra did but I'd load up the trolly with whatever I needed for a particular project and take my painting stuff out into the main room and sit at a table near the window anyway. I would love that as a storage area (she says looking at all the pots of pens, pencils, brushes etc scattered all over he place) 😂😎
@pudgeysplace Жыл бұрын
This came out super cute! Love the pegboard and the color! A few things i noticed though…she specifically asked for 2 task lights so i think it would have been good to give her a second light in her art area that she could adjust. She also said she liked maximizing her art table so i dont think she will like having that little ikea drawer taking up space on her art desk.

I’ve been a professional painter for almost 20 years. You’re rolling ceilings all wrong. Don’t go front to back, roll left to right instead, walking backwards as you roll. You’ll be able to reach twice as far going side to side, with significantly less chance of straining a muscle because you really aren’t stretching at all. Plus the paint splatter won’t be going right over your face and hair, it’ll be a foot or so in front of you. By walking backwards as you roll, you’ll have a perfect view of the paint you just applied, it’ll be easy to see any dirt, paint skins or ridges. And you’ll never pass under the roller, so you’re less likely to get paint in your eyes. You should also start with the ceiling (think top-down approach, like you would for dusting/cleaning). That way if there’s drips on the walls, you’ll fix them as you go without having to go back and redo things Usually we bring two sizes of extension pole as well, a 3-6’ for walls and a 5-10’ stick for ceilings. You get better control (read: less ridges) with the longer stick. Plus the longer stick is actually less tiring since you can keep both hands below shoulder height. Might not be worth it for a small project, but if you roll any decent sized ceiling you’ll definitely appreciate the longer stick

Nice job but I am wondering why you didn’t use any of the many already available pegboard and hook/ peg systems available? Seems like heavy ply and big holes just limits possibilities and costs way more than it needed to. And I kept watching for watercolor paper storage. I love how everything was perfectly arranged in here, but as everyone else stated. Me, as an artist, as other artists have pointed it out, I do want natural light to actually show me the true colors I’m working with for my art. And then I can have colored walls, but other than that. This reddish brown would give me a headache, cause the light plus the color is just a perfect recipe for tiring my eyes and give me a migraine. I’d have gone honestly with the blue or green she wanted from the pics if I had to choose a moody color anyway. But I learned a lot of how I want to redo my studio 💕

Hey Team AG, this was a great makeover. Your team always kills it. I’ve been bingeing your vids for like a week now cause I’m hooked…however, partnering with Better Help is not a cute look. There are so many allegations, testimonies and controversies against the company that are not hard to find at all and it is ridiculous to still see so many youtubers partnering up with them. It cheapens your ethos because you’re either not looking into these companies or you don’t care. Hope you take this into consideration!

Alexandra, are you aware for paint cans, they make plastic clip on poor spouts. It helps make pouring paint out of the can easier, and keeps the paint can clean too. Just an fyi.

Putting up the shelves, the sharp red line lighting you up: girl, did you say "level of satisfaction"??! 🤣 I enjoy your work so much. Fabulous results here!

I would love to see you begin to re-visit your old projects and speak to the clients about how they feel about the changes you made now that they have lived in the space. I mean no disrespect, just a critique from one designer (architect and production designer ) to another, but while this project has a great immediate visual impact, for me I would have a number of practical and code-related concerns. From the colour of the space impacting her artistic work; the height of the “standing” desk work surface; to the proximity of the top shelf and baskets to the sprinkler and vents; to the looping cable dropping in the corner, the colour of the bulbs chosen, and the location of the wall sconce limiting the size of her canvas. It would be useful to hear from old clients about elements that maybe didn’t work out as planned such that the team could bring that info into new projects with them. As I said though, great visual impact.

I think feedback later regarding what worked and what didn't is important for ANY business. But especially when you ate designing something based on a phone call with some to "determine" their likes, dislikes & preferences.

You got a lot in a small space and still made it quite functional. The one thing I think you let her down on was the task lighting. She said she needed two task lights so it wouldn't cast any shadows on her work. Artist needs ample lighting, especially when the walls are so dark. While the light hung on the wall is quite fashionable, it does nothing for the lighting of an artist. It is more of a mood light. While I can understand her excitement for the space, because you did such an amazing job in meeting her need for storage, once she gets into working in the space, I can guarantee she will have to purchase another lamp or two to make it workable. I think sometimes you choose cuteness over function thus not always meeting the need of the client. Again, overall I think you did an amazing job for the size of the space. Congrats!
