If you shop online, you’ll notice that 30sc HST rounds cost about the same as 9mm HST, but it’s less expensive than HST rounds in 380, 40, 357sig, 45, and 10mm. 30sct HST rounds will do exactly what 9mm HST does, except in a 30sc gun, you’ll have at least more rounds to kill the bad guy with.

I think 30 super carry is such an interesting cartridge and I really wish Sig would make a P365 in it. I think if Sig did that 30 super carry would become a big player in the conceal carry market. Or at least a bigger player. And the hate for 30 super carry is something that I find super odd, why wouldn't you want more rounds for about the same power? It's the whole reason why people don't carry the 45. 9mm is smaller, lighter, and generally doesn't put as much force down range, and definitely doesn't has the energy transfer like 45 does at the same foot pounds of energy. Having a P365 Macro with a +20 rounds of 30 super carry would be really cool. And I think that's where the 30 super carry could have a real following. Speaking of lighter recoiling rounds, I'd love to find a company who could turn me out a 22 TCM barrel for a P365, I'd be limited to the 22 TCM 9R bullets, but throwing a 39gr pill down range at about 2000fps would be really cool. Plus, 22 TCM is as cheap as 9mm (when you buy from the manufacturer online anyway.) One can dream. One can dream.

Usually the smaller caliber rifle cartridge weapons like that 20-25 rifle were sold for varmint hunting where your target is small and at a fairly long range away in fact the .223 Winchester is a varmint round originally before the military adopted it for its low recoil as the 5.56 mm M-16 cartridge. The low bullet weight offers the advantages of low recoil and the higher velocity gets the bullet to the target quicker allowing less bullet drop and time for the animal to react also like when you fire at a deer with a bow often times the deer ducks or jumps out of the flight path of the arrow high velocity projectiles don't allow this phenomena to occur.

@kenibnanak55546 ай бұрын
@@jcraigshelton I didn't say .30 Carbine, I said .30 Short carbine. Slightly less power and shorter. Dates back to the early 60s. About 5 or 6 months of prodcution then dropped (couldn't compete in price with the volume sales of surplus full size Carbine ammo). That said, Ruger Blackhawks were available (for unknown reason) in a .30 carbine version for awhile.

Is it a cut down .30 carbine case? It might be a great cartridge for both humans and medium size critters with good projectiles. A lightweight high capacity gun good for hiking and camping or work out in the field.

I don't know if it's going to be .30 Super Carry or .277 Fury that catch on as the next big things, but I'm glad people are attempting to innovate in the cartridge design space, achieving the pressures that can be pushed with modern metallurgy and CAD, as opposed to applying innovations in powder and projectile design to century old form factors. And a little PDW in .30 Super Carry would be the cat's pajamas. I'm no engineer but I imagine you'd have all kinds of pressure to operate a little piston like in an MPX, as well as pressure to make a compensator very effective. A CZ Skorpion form factor would be super cool too, but I'm afraid the cartridge would too much for simple blowback.
@ShootingUtah6 ай бұрын
I'd really like to see a resurgence of .38 Super! It's always been around in the competitive shooting world to some degree but you never see any regular guns chambered for it. I always wonder why not? For any given 9mm handgun you would get the same amount of rounds and a pretty big jump up in ft lbs of energy and all that.
@mattscalzo2375Ай бұрын
I love me Shield Plus 30SC! I think in order for 30SC to truly gain some traction they need to release pistols that are strictly chambered in 30sc. So far I love mine and it's extremely reliable. Not much noticeable difference in recoil compared to 9mm but much more ammo capacity.
@garandm1d6 ай бұрын
I agree... I hope it really takes off...need a few more manufacturers to chamber it in their handguns/ carbines...a true straight wall cartridge is a bit easier to reload vs. the tapered 9mm ... components should be a little cheaper considering on average there's 20% less material in the projectiles...

Mark, it makes me so happy to hear about your 5.7 idea. I too had the idea to chop a 5.7 case at the neck and use a 25acp bullet. Alas, I don’t have the means to make it happen. If you do get that project running I’d love to see the product!
@Clockwork5quirrel6 ай бұрын
The longer brass isn't to increase propellant capacity. It's so that if you load it into a gun chambered for the similar diameter but less powerful round (for instance, a 10mm round in a .40 cal pistol), the gun won't go all the way into battery and thus won't fire. It's a technique that has been in practice since the early days of semi-auto pistols.
@johnnyk56 ай бұрын
You mentioned a carbine being a good application. If you want a new project, how about a 16” double rifle with minimally-thin barrels? O/U or SxS, your choice. A 10” pistol version of same or a pepper box would be neat, too.

So I'm a fan of the 327 Fed Mag revolver round for much the same reason you like 30SC. It's modernized, lighter weight guns, more rounds, etc etc. I see 30SC as the 327 Fed Mag Auto. You can up the pressure and make little 32 caliber bullets just screaming fast to impart force in smaller packages than you can 9mm/357. It's a solid concept and I hope it gains more traction.

I like the 30 SC as a concept. I also like 327 Federal and would like to get back into it however ammo is sparse and Ruger hasn’t come back to commitment of the full product line, awaiting for the 7 shot GP100 or Single 7 to kick off again. So once burned twice shy, so I am waiting to see if 30SC has the legs under it and someone besides SW and Hi Point (carbine) come out with a pistol in the caliber.

I think you’re right about civilians not having to worry about logistics so much it actually stifles innovation. I’ve been saying for a long time that pdw guns are widely inefficient because of old pistol rounds and the need to have compatibility across your personal carry platforms. As always thanks for the insight mark👌🏼

Would definitely like a small PDW in 30super carry... Especially if they (you) built something like the vz51 Scorpion but chambered in 30sc instead of 32acp. Wait, could you just convert a regular Scorpion parts kit, make your own 30sc barrel, and print a lower? Would that even be safe considering the pressures, or would you need a different operating system other than straight blowback? Would you need to also print mags for it or do you think cheaper aftermarket glock mags could be made to work by slightly bending the feed lips? Damnit Mark, now I have too many questions.

I personally think the single event that would seal the .30 Super Carry’s fate as a success is if the P365 would be chambered in it. The ammo is currently at ~37 cents per round on Ammoseek, but I saw it get as low as ~30 cents per round last summer. The issue definitely isn’t production volumes. There just isn’t enough of a variety of subcompacts chambered in it. And maybe a general confusion on what the cartridge is supposed to be. A rule of thumb with the .30 Super Carry is that it generally requires a firearm’s action to be as strong as it’d need to be for 9x19. Sure, the cartridges themselves are narrower, but they produce basically the same amount of energy. It isn’t like a .380 or a .32, where you can get a noteworthy lighter gun. .30SC is always going to be an engineering cousin of 9mm.

If other manufacturers would come out with other models as in ex. A ruger .380 max in .30, I would be all over it. Ian Mc Collum made a few vids about this caliber, an it was reported that it was about 15% less powerful than a 9mm, but more powerful than a .380. But cost being a consideration, its more price wise than 9mm. God willing, more manufacturers will get on this bandwagon, an ammo manufacturers will come down in price on the ammo. Thx for the vid Mark
@donkeziah25646 ай бұрын
From watching your video the cartridge need a longer barrel to get a better effect from the powder as it was throwing a great muzzle blast from each shot! I'll stick with my 380's loaded with Winchester Silver tips or Federal Hydra- Shacks and an extra mag in my pocket to get me back to my vehicle.
