I'm in Orlando. We got a lot of rain and wind but I am totally fine. Those on the coast got severe damage. The last time Orlando got hit by a category 4 was Charley in 2004 and that was the worst damage I ever saw. Worst flooding I ever saw was Ian and Nicole about 2 years ago.

I love to juice beets, also. I juice the entire beet plants (leaves, stems, bulbs/roots) with carrots & some type of greens (usually kale or spinach). My sister does the same, but adds apples, so her kids will drink the juice. I think it’s plenty sweet with just the carrots, though. I never cook beets, so I’m looking forward to seeing everyone else’s recipes.

I always have luck with basil but the stem always gets woody. My son gave me some Cuban Oregano and it's growling like crazy. He got one cutting from his girlfriend and he lazily stuck it in a pot with a cactus and it exploded. I put some in my full sun raised bed and my shades ground area and they're both going crazy. 2 weeks ago, on a whim, I saved and planted some sugar kiss cantaloupe seeds and after only a week, I have a ton of seedlings and they're growing fast. Idk if they'll produce but it was more of an experiment than anything. I put them in a full sun raised bed so we will see. I'm in Florida zone 9b.

I`ve planted a lot of varieties of leafy greens, tubers and herbs so far and also fall cucumbers. I rooted cuttings from my rough looking cherry tomato plant and plan to cover them (and cucumbers on the ground) with tarps when we get early frosts for as many times as I can get away with it.

@@JerrasGarden My cherry tomatoes (Sweet 100 I think) produced through the summer in Louisiana this year. I couldn`t believe it. I`ve keep the same plant alive with cuttings for two years. I`m gonna try to keep growing it indoors this winter. I didn`t like the flavor of the few micro dwarf tomatoes the pests didn`t get. They are terrible tasting and nearly impossible to grow outside too. Dozens of little worms always attack them right when they bloom but the plants are so bushy you can`t see them until the damage is done. They eat the plants from the inside out and nibble on each green tomato that forms. Happened over and over. Bug dust didn`t help.

Hi there, thank you so much for your good information and although I am in south of England/UK and you have such good weather compared to us and we have so much rain there is a great deal of good information that you have given out here. This year 2024 we had a rather hard time with there being hardly a spring to talk about and summer came and not for long enough too as we have now so much rain it makes for far too much watering. I have gone into the making of much more compost, as this is needed for replacing the goodness from the soil because of so much rain and hopefully be better prepared for this next spring. Very pleased to hear that you were alright regarding the hurricane. I will look forward to your guide/You Tube/video's, all the very best to you.

@JerrasGarden
@JerrasGarden Ай бұрын
I use a combination of grow bags, containers, and in ground gardening. The type to use depends on so many factors and what crop your trying to grow. In general, I plant things that like drier soils like herbs and peppers in grow bags or containers. My larger veggie crops go in the ground. My tomatoes are in grow bags because fall season is hurricane season, so if I get flooded the tomato plants wont die. They will die if in ground and it floods.

Hi Jerra! Your tomatoes have already been transplanted? I am zone 10a and we still have days of 90 degrees so I was waiting until the end of October, when the average temp is below 85 degrees, to transplant my tomatoes. Is this correct?
@JerrasGarden
@JerrasGarden Ай бұрын
Nope, plant earlier than that for FL 10A or you miss on many weeks of production. The goal is to transplant them towards the very end of summer when the rains start to let up (and cross my fingers no hurricane). The warmth will help the seedlings grow fast. I transplanted mine around Aug 24th which is a little early even for me, but it worked out. When temperatures get above 85/90F, that is a major issue for flowering and production. The flowers drop and/or cant pollinate. In September we get a noticeable cool down, so my tomato plants are able to flower and produce successfully. In sum, transplant fall tomatoes at the very end of August or by the end of Labor day weekend in September.
