When i first heard of ham radio, i had no interest in Morse Code. Now, it's really the only mode that i want to do. I just need to set aside time for daily practice.

Think i maxed out right about 40 wpm in the Navy back in the day!! To this day when I'm at a red light and I'm looking at signs or tags or anything really, I'm doing Morse in my head on all that i see. It's not as bad as it used to be, but it was quite torturous for many years.

The best way is to keep listening, maybe at a slower speed but not too slow. The only difference in 10 wpm and 30 wpm is simple practice. Turn off your cell device and any phones you may have, any TV or other internet devices. Have a quiet area and listen, listen, listen.... Soon F & L's, Q & Y's and all of the other combos which hose us from time to time and one day, you'll be copying 20, then 25 wpm. It didn't take me long to go from 25 to 30 wpm. Presently, I am trying to get 35 wpm solid. AND I use the same suggestions I made for myself. You'd be surprised how many things can cause you to lose your concentration like a loud car or motorcycle buzzing by, a low flying jet or helicopter, neighbors dogs yapping and on and on. Don't give up it's just too much fun when you get past 20 wpm. and, don't be intimidated at the other super fast stations. No one was born to copy fast but I believe almost anyone can get their speed up if they'll just try..My goal later in life is to top 40 wpm and it may take years but I'd like to do that just for fun.. good luck!!! es 73 WA4AOS
