As someone that was 14 in June 1994 I can say looking back, that we were lucky to be growing up when this music was coming out. Music is too watered down today to ever change the world like the Seattle sound and rap did in 94 🤘

June 1994 probably remains my favourite month ever. And that Stompbox album deserved a better fate.

Great summer. Remember buying STP on my way to take my SAT test. Stompbox was a blind buy and I still love that album. Suicidal For Life is underappreciated and Betty was highly anticipated for me. Funny I remember when and where I bought everything your mentioned.

Just binged all these 30 vids, glad you include all the amazing hip hop of that era. As a Scandinavian, I don't understand the popularity Ace of Base either.

So, I'm as into metal and rock and everything as much as the next dude with a half-functioning sack, but I enjoyed the Ace of Base singles just enough on MTV to actually be gifted the CD in 1994. On top of this, I have a strong associative memory of watching the music video for "Don't Turn Around" at my junior high sweetheart's house that summer. Fast-forward weeks later and things ended with that girl...but every time I heard any AoB song from The Sign, it always brought back that exact time and place for me, so whether I wanted it to happen or not, there was an emotional resonance to that music. This was only furthered when me and said junior high sweetheart reconnected in our mid-20s and stayed friends. Five years ago she died of suicide and there's a really bittersweet memory to that music now, but it's a disc that I will put on and just think of the good times that we shared back when we were 14. I didn't ask to have some kind of left-field Ace of Base thing amongst my Rush and Black Sabbath CDs, but here we are and the music is just harmless synth-pop fluff, with some hidden gems here and there. "Happy Nation" is kind of dark and has a great groove and honestly isn't that different to some of the material that Depeche Mode was doing in the '80s. Plus Jenny and Linn were hot AF.

94 was awesome…Wolf, was good! Not great, but entertaining. Particularly Jack pissing in the restroom floor to mark his territory from his enemies, lol! Anyways, Some classic Jack lines, and it’s fun. Love the crow soundtrack to this day! Esp the badge by Pantera…amazing cover. The 90’s were just my favorite time to be alive - pop culture wise, living in Florida, and the MUSIC. Cheers! 🍻

Highly recommend looking up "StoneFree: A Tribute to Jimi Hendrix", and check out a band/track called M.A.C.C. covering 'Third Rock from the Sun'. It is an improvised supergroup of Mike McCready, Jeff Ament, Chris Cornell, and Matt Cameron (Pearl Jam and Soundgarden for those not in the know). think this was around that time, but could be wildly wrong. Worth a look up if you don't know it though.

Jeez, 94 was a blast of a year. So much great music came out, we blasted that stuff on the parties with too much booze... Yeah we were allowed to drink a shitload of booze with 16. The benefits of being in the rural regions of Germany hehe. I was making me a playlist of one song from albums that came out in that year and I was at 60 songs right off the bat. The Crow still a huge sampler, Purple was a beautiful record and yeah.... Ace of Base... I did (and still do) love me some Eurodance, Trance, EDM in general. But Ace of Base was just horrible (there's some weird stories about one of the dude's role in Scandinavian right wing scene as well). Anyhoo - great year, great vid. Love em! Edith appreciates the dye. Niiice purple.

Damn, I hit this with Betty, Purple, Regulate, and Purple Rain. I wasn't a fan of Speed either...still can't believe they made Speed 2.

Awesome video: you dyed yor hair purple. STP released Purple 30yrs ago, and Prince released Purple Rain 40yrs ago. I encourage you to rap for the rest of the year, instead of singing.

Stompbox RULES, unfortunately Deftones got the glory back then by getting signed. But Stress still holds up to this day as it was so ahead of time. I discovered them through Headbangers Ball, I think it was a live performance at the Foundations Forum. Suicidal For Life was also one I was anticipating.
