Some Jerk With A Camera is back once again, with part one of a three-part retrospective on the history of one of the most frustrating experimental prototype communities of tomorrow Disney has ever tried to not really build, EPCOT! In this episode, how the idea came into being, and how death mutated the idea into something completely different.
DISCLAIMER: This video, like every video on this channel, is intended only for mature audiences. While the topic at hand is a form of media commonly associated with small children, the purpose of this video is to present a mixture of analysis and comedy about said media from a distinctly adult perspective, which may possibly include profane language and references to sex, drugs and/or violence. KZbin, like many websites, collects personal data on its users. The Child Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) has made it illegal to collect personal data on children younger than 13, and rather than fix their own algorithm, KZbin is essentially threatening to pass the blame onto content creators whose work may seem "attractive" to children. For these reasons, the producers of this video feel compelled to state, in no uncertain terms, that if you allow a child under 13 years old to watch this KZbin channel, you are a bad parent or guardian.

This really deserves more likes and views. In my view, Some Jerk with a Camera was one of the best shows of the angry review boom of the late 2000s and early 2010s, in large part because its unpredictable, surreal comedic nature, along with its more in-depth research really pushed the format to its height in both directions. I may have disagreements with you, especially about Nat Geo, but your work, especially the early stuff, has been an inspiration to me.

"My name is Walt Disney. And I ask you. Is a man not entitled to the sweat of his brow? No, says the man In the white house, it belongs to the poor! No says the man in the Kremlin, it belongs to everybody! No says the man in the church, it belongs to God! I rejected those answers. I chose something better. I chose, EPCOT!"

The Germany section could have a ride dedicated to the inspiration behind fairytales and how they influenced culture (Disney capitalism), Japan could have rides centered on Kingdom Hearts and Gheibli (Totoro ride announced), and Italy could have a Vesivius sky launch ride (complete with pasta shields to stop incoming lunches)
@Heavenlyhounds96
@Heavenlyhounds96 7 жыл бұрын
You had me at fairytales. Seriously, Germany is like THE place for a fairytale ride. Brothers Grimm, Alderking, (or Erlkonig, the Elven King), and countless others. But I don't know if Disney will go with these ideas, even though they're adding in a Ratatouille ride in the French pavilion. They probably didn't add anything to those three pavilions due to err....complications in the 40s.

Im suddenly writing a mental fan fic that runs with the "Disney State" idea. Walt doesnt die of cancer (for a few decades), but Epcot becomes successful and he becomes governor of Florida (he does leave the company, and MAYBE a smother transition makes the post Disney pre 90s years less rough for them). "When You Wish Upon A Star" becomes the state song.

@Maniac536
@Maniac536 5 жыл бұрын
20:55 this would actually work perfectly now! Disney could do it without sponsorship. There are still no African nations in world showcase and there are still several unused expansion slots (at least one or two with very mild African theming last I checked) Why don’t they use one of the expansion lots to highlight the nation of Wakanda? The Black Panther can do meet and greets. There could be a Wakandan embassy built to look exactly like the one in the PS4 Spider-Man’s NYC and light it up with purple lights every night. It could have an education center for children, like what King T’Challa said he wanted to build in Compton at the end of Black Panther. I know what you’re saying, this is impossible due to the universal theme park rights holding marvel characters back from Disney. I don’t think the theme park rights to Black Panther were taken up by Universal Orlando because they haven’t shown him before in the park. They have the rights to the avengers, xmen fantastic four and spider man characters but I’ve never seen the Panther get mentioned at the park.
@TonyGoldmark

Tony's 3 parter on EPCOT is so spot on, it's better than anyone's potential biopic will be. I can't believe that Danny Kaye special aired. Just awful. Tony's comedy is just "gallows" and "borderline" enough to make me cackle and at the same moment squirm with shame, and I am multi ethnic. Tony's ancestors suffered horrifically, as did many of mine. But my sense of humour makes me laugh and pee in my pants at Tony's videos all the same, and laughter is my medication. Walt Disney was a genius, visionary, and probably a really fun person. But the visuals about a Disney planet and galaxy/universe are hilariously horrific LOL. Disney came from "The Greatest Generation" and he was simply a product of his time. There were whispers about "American Imperialism", "racism" and "Anti-Semitism" made against him. Whether they are true or just jealous gossip will never really be known, but the man's closest friends always insisted he wasn't a racist. The worst he could be was "insensitive" due to the times he was raised in. Still, he lobbied hard for actor James Baskett to get an Oscar for that very controversial film, Song of the South. Every person has flaws. I'm sure that if Disney ever hurt the feelings of a black or Jewish person, he didn't truly mean to. I think Walter Elias Disney was a dreamer, a hard worker who talked about things he wanted to see come to fruition, and was told, "You fool! That'll never work!"

Good ol' EPCOT. I remember going there in '98 when I went to Orlando with my folks for Spring Break (along with Universal Studios). The funny thing is, I actually ASKED to go to EPCOT instead of Magic Kingdom or even MGM Grand. Don't regret it, got to see Cranial Command, The Living Sea, a polka band at the Germany Pavilion, a fireworks show and... Honey I Shrunk The Audience. Hey, I was a big fan of the movies, alright? @TonyGoldmark
@TonyGoldmark 8 жыл бұрын
+PrimusVsUnicron Yes, but not originally. Originally they were planning to clone "Meet The World," a Carousel Of Progress-esque attraction on the history of Japan, designed and built for Tokyo Disneyland (where it lasted until about 2002). They even built a show building for it, which to this day lies empty, and a waiting area for it, which today is just a small art gallery that, bizarrely enough, looks EXACTLY like the waiting area for an attraction that doesn't exist. It was years later, during the Eisner era, that they hatched up the plan for the Godzilla ride, to give World Showcase a much-needed thrill ride and compete with Universal's Kongfrontation, but it never came to pass.

I love your videos so much! You're so hilarious. I was going to leave it at that after I finished watching but I had to comment on the chicken. Animal cruelty is commonplace in the US but that really wasn't funny to me. I think playing it for comedy can further harden people's sympathies for animals.

It must've been extremely hot Tony. That last shot of you kissing money you're sweating like crazy! How long did you film for this three parter? And I'm in florida right now! I love this vid
@TonyGoldmark
@TonyGoldmark 8 жыл бұрын
+sazoomer4 It WAS extremely hot, but the crazy thing is, that was shot indoors, in an air-conditioned building, and the sweat picked THAT moment to be noticeable on camera. IIRC, we shot the EPCOT three-parter over a grand total of thirteen non-consecutive days. Before I left for Florida, we spent a day at the Disneyland Resort shooting (among other things) the "You fool that'll never work" stuff and the clip of Eisner in Beast's Library in part two. I also spent a day at my friend Morgan's house in Riverside shooting all the Chris Hansen stuff with Garrett. Then I spent about twelve days in Florida, and shot footage for this three-parter (as well as all the Florida footage in the ABC retrospective, but that's another story) on eight of those days - a day at Universal (where we got the bit at 19:30), a day at Magic Kingdom, a day at EPCOT with Dave, a day at EPCOT without Dave (on that day I just rode rides and got lots of B-roll, including the timeline that shows up in parts two and three a lot), a day at Disney's Hollywood Studios with Dave, a day at DHS without Dave (in which I got the opening shot at 1:11 by "selfie"-ing myself), a day at Animal Kingdom when it started raining and we had to stop, and another day resuming at Animal Kingdom, then going to Downtown Disney to get the "zombie" stuff in part three. And AFTER I got back from Florida, I shot my uncle Paul's cameo in part three in San Francisco one day, Mikey Insanity's cameo in part two at DCA another day, and Charlie's cameo in part three at DCA still ANOTHER day. So, thirteen days altogether, though on most of those days we only spent an hour or less actually shooting. And that's not counting the cameos from Phil Buni, Stephan Krosecz and Kyle Kallgren, who all shot their bits on their own. Or all the narration I recorded after the fact, while editing all this. Or the new intros for all three parts, which I shot in one day at Disneyland two years later. Or Mike J's cameo at 0:22, which he was kind enough to shoot while on his honeymoon.
