Interesting stuff! I was sitting in the hospital some time ago, and had an old man as roomie. He suffered from some kind of necrosis on his leg, and the nurse applied a "maggot-filled" bandage to the area. After a little while these little buggers had chewed all the dead flesh but left everything sane untouched. Although grossed out at first, couldnt help but be amazed in the end.

So fun fact: I recall a reading something about maggots being used for medicinal purposes. Most species of maggot will only eat dead, decaying matter, so applying maggots to a wound would clean it of all dead flesh, essentially cleaning the wound (in a sense) and promote faster healing. I'm not sure if this is still being done.

Little story: My family owns chickens and a few years ago a chicken was painfully eaten by maggots. The reason why the fly laid her eggs there was because the chicken had developed a thing called "rasvapepu" or I guess oilbutt I don't now how the oilbutt starts or how to stop it but as chickens get older the chance of oilbutt enlargen. Also our dog got exposed cancer on his butt last year and since his a outside dog he also got laid eggs on and my mom had to wash him for hours so that he too would not have suffer a long painful death, you might be thinking why didn't you wash the chicken well it's because we washed the EGGS off the dog but the chicken had MAGGOTS IN her. How do they know when to stop?
@gottkonighorus1493 Жыл бұрын
@@twistedyogert Good question! They actually secrete a sort of saliva that contains enzymes which only react to dead tissue. And while there are methods to use maggots freely we generlly tend to use so called bio bags, a sort of silk satchel kinda like a tea bag that lets through the saliva and allows the maggots to eat, but contains them to a relatively small area.
