Mantis Shrimp just really showed it’s smarts by being able to identify that Coyote wasn’t a threat as well as just yanking the krill off instead of punching it out because he realized it’s already dead. They're so intelligent and absolutely beautiful creatures. I'm thinking about getting one when I get my own place and giving the little guy a big tank to have a nice chill life. The one thing I've seen with people that own mantis shrimp, is that they often live in fairly small tanks for their size. I wouldn't want to overwhelm em with such a tiny living space.

I love how it paddles with their little feet in the water, they're actually pretty damn quick like that, at first glance it looks like a lobster until you see its dazzling array of colors, it looks very intrigued in its surrounding and is smart enough to know that you're not a threat, its able to gauge threat levels much more efficiently and no just rely on impulse and thats probably due to its stellar eye sight, apparently ... Humans can only process three channels of colour (red, green and blue), while mantis shrimps perceive 12 channels of colour, and can detect UV (ultra violet) and polarised light so imagine a color you can't even imagine and multiply that by 9, makes me think of someone on acid just running around in a clown costume in the middle of the ocean lol ... its really an incredible species and best of all is you can actually keep them as pets, if i could re incarnate into any animal on the planet in my later life, i'd probably choose to be the mantis shrimp...

So apparently, the average Peacock Mantis Shrimp punch is faster than the faster ever recorded punch by a man by 5 mph. Punching at 23m/s is pretty fast but it’s not even close to the slowest subsonic .22 LR bullet I could find, that is on average fired at 330m/s. Fast for a punch but can’t be compared to a bullet. I see it all the time being incorrectly said when talking about Mantis Shrimps though. HOWEVER, we got to consider this little guy is punching stuff UNDERWATER. Actually shouldn’t have even compared them to humans.

I didn’t know that the peacock mantis shrimp also had the spear. I thought that there were two types of mantis shrimp, and the one with the spear was less colorful, and more of an ambush predator.

*To all of you who came to see the Shrimp and not all this 8+ minutes of advertising, skip to **8:00** and move on from that.* The shrimp punch can destroy hardened shells of crustaceans, it can definitely easily break the skin and if given enough time and effort; most likely able to break the bone aswell. P.S I would of not have ever expected Brave Wilderness to start advertising predatorily monetized mobile games..

standard velocity for a 22lr (the most common cartage with a 22 Cal bullet other than 223rem/556nato) is anywhere between 600fps(409mph) to 1300fps(886mph) depending on a lot of factors your an entire order of magnitude off.

Just started watching this and the 50mph caught me too...i thought to myself who do they have doing math calculations LOL. Even a 68cal paintball gun fires a ball near 200mph. Simple calc on a 40gr .22lr gave me 852mph
@VikingTeddy
@VikingTeddy 7 ай бұрын
I get that oopsies happen. But you need to be extra unobservant to not catch it. And having several people working on the video makes it even more baffling : The average human can kick at 50mph, and punch at about 20mph. Trained athletes can double the numbers.

@@creepercrepe8910 That would be even worse. The acceleration of a 22 bullet is 3 billion miles per hour per hour (literally, I'm not exaggerating). It goes from zero to full speed in 1 millisecond.

What a beautiful creature! I'm glad you didn't try to stress it too badly just for the video and respected it. Loved seeing the curiosity and intellect of such a small sea animal, but I guess as a niche predator it's probably smarter than your average fish.

Force correction for the hockey puck. The force output of a hockey puck is typically around 163 joules or 530 Newtons OR 120 lbs-force. 5.2 Newtons is equal to about 1 lb force.

Small note on terminology: you can't measure acceleration in miles/hour, so instead of 50mph it should probably be 50 miles/hour/second (which means it accelerates from 0mph to 50mph in a second)
