300,000 Mile Mercedes - Slammed on Junk Coilovers // Winter Beater Challenge

Rocky is our resident drag racer however he bought the slowest car out of the group. This 1992 Mercedes Benz w124 300D is rated at 126 HP and 170 TQ, which is further smooshed by the 4 speed slush box automatic. What this car lacks in forward motivation is quickly overshadowed by the abundance of 26+ German car issues. Rocky wants to keep his winter beater, so we'll see what lengths he'll go to ensure his ole gal doesn't melt into a corrosion heap.
Some of the modifications done thus far include a set of custom fabricated eBay coilovers, a set of Alzor wheels, and a DIY intake for added turbo noises.

Mercedes from that era can last forever with proper maintenance. W124s have a timeless design and look to them. It may be slow by today's standard but it is well designed and well built.

Just got one today 300 bucks. Lady said it stumbled and stopped running. Was on its way to scrap yard. It was only a bad distributor cap, I haven't even changed it yet. Just sandpaper and wd40 and shes running.

@@RothBeyondTheGrave it's in excellent shape. I did have to fix a brake line and other odds and ends. I also found out that the 2008 320 e cars 16 inch rims fit. I stuffed 225/50/16 on them. It looks great, huge rubber contact pad gained.

That 124 body is in better shape then many. looks like it´s rust free so its a shame that you are ruining by cutting the spring perches. Also putting coils on these will eventually crack the front strut towers. Dont wanna hate but i prolly do lol.

So you repeat and repeat "pile of junk" for W124.... Seems like I probabaly drove some other car with camouflaged in W124 for last 11 years and still daily driving it.... It is so sad how Americans don't know how to respect engineering, build quality, design and value of German cars from 80's and 90's... No car ever will reach levels of W126, W201, W124, R129, W140, E38, E34, E30, E32 and so on...

Ah...No. It's the other way around. On average, American cars were the most technologically advanced in the world up until the late sixties. Cadillac, Lincoln, Imperial, Packard, Buick. It was all about engineering, technology, and design back then. But how often do you hear Europeans praise an American car from that era?

The US Spec OM602 turbo is considered a 300 by standard. The euro one is a different story.

I have a 92 300E that will be lowered on H & R springs. But do tell the rim size and offset you are running. Looks great with that staggered look.

Keep note of the spring "pad" .....the rubber donut that the springs meets up under the body on. There are 4 different thicknesses that can change the lowered height. I did H&R's and I had rubbing so I went to the next thicker spring pad and it cleared it.

You can simply make a few adjustments to the engines ALDA, timing and injection pump and it will be a different engine. Also the transmission needs adjustment to properly shift after a power boost. A free-flow exhaust is neat also.

manual boost controller(valve thing) and a cheap intercooler can get a litle umph back it the engine changing the fuel pump and fuel filter dosent hurt engine performance either
