So, a fun fact about "this is Sparta." That was the final take, and Butler didn't shout it in any of the others. He just said it with a stern voice. But he told Zac Snyder he wanted to try something, so they did the take, and he did the yell. According to Butler, Snyder was laughing his ass off after he did it, and when asked if it was too much, he said, " Yeah, but it was awesome!".

The Battle of Thermopylae in 480 BC between the Achaemenid Persian Empire under Xerxes I and an alliance of Greek city-states led by Sparta under Leonidas I. Lasting over the course of three days. 300 Spartans fought. Leonidas was among the last 3 soldiers. He was killed by an arrow and the last 2 Spartans died protecting his body.The movie dramatize the battle a bit for entertainment, but factually the spartan did kick the persians ass.

This is better than John Wick, Gladiator, Troy, any of the movies in its genre. It’s basically other worldly and checks every box imaginable. But it also has heart and to me the ending is heart breaking but glorious at the same time. It’s in a league of it’s own and just hard to put into words how good this movie is.

The movie is a sanitised retelling of history. The movie is a racist historical revisionism that portrays the Persians as savage animals and the Greeks as noble heroes. The director neglected to include a lot of unsavoury Greek history in the movie. Unsavoury history about how the Spartans loved to torture and murder their slaves, how pedophilia and homosexuality was the norm among the Spartans. The Spartans were not the clean cut noble heroes the movie portrays them to be. The Spartans and Greeks in general were a society of power hungry and blood thirsty savage perverts.

i don't know if it is just me but i find that films that are based on true story's/facts are ALLWAYS fantastic films...the washed out color's combined with the epic CGI effect's and slow motion combat scene's make this an epic film.

The colours and the movies artistic expression is made to look as close to the original comic book by Frank Miller. He wrote and drew 300, just like he wrote the Sin City comics that were also made into movies and share stylistic similarities. He has a very unique drawing style with alot of emphasis on the contrast between black and white/Darkness and light. Thats why the directors chose to tone down the colours while also highlighting the blood red colours, just like Miller did... Frank miller has also written and drawn some of the most iconic Batman comics called The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Returns wich were made into comicmovies with again similar styles... I read theese comics as a young teen and they made a huge impression on me and my own drawings. When theese movies came out it was epic for a comic book geek like me. :)

So, there actually almost certainly WAS a real life military unit called The Immortals in the Persian Empire, though obviously nothing like what was pictured in the movies. They were likely some kind of bodyguard force or palace guard, or that's the best guess. They got their name not because the individuals were immortal, but because the unit always numbered 1000 strong. If one got sick, maimed, killed, whatever, there was a roster of backups, and the next man immediately filled the spot, so they were "immortal." But they live up to their name, because the rulers of that area for most of history since the Persian Empire have always had a unit named (either officially or unofficially) The Immortals. In fact, some of their insignia/emblems are still in use today, in the Iranian (modern day Persia) Army.

An interesting fact about Spartans, the only way to get a headstone upon death was to either die in battle if you were a man or to die during childbirth if you were a woman. Death in battle or childbirth were the highest honors lol. Explains a lot of the attitude of the men when it comes to battle 😂😂

You have to remember, back in those days, the spring and summer were fighting months, and in the case of Sparta, when the men went off to fight whomever they were fighting that year, the women were left behind, and were responsible for the defense of Sparta while the men were gone, so they were killers in their own right, granted they did not get trained like male Spartan's, but they were more than just credible women who can bear young and cook, they could fight, and fight well.

The statement ".. tonight we dine in HELL !!" while dramatic, is slightly inaccurate. What was actually meant, considering Hellenic cosmology, was "... tonight we dine in Hades" .. i.e. the Underworld - where everyone ends up. It wasn't the Hell run by Lucifer/Satan.

Im Greek...those was my ancestors and im proud for them!!! but some mistakes of the movie....first of all the mother of the warrior give his shield and not the wife and say to him "ΤΑΝ Η ΕΠΙ ΤΑΣ" means "Come WITH your shield like a winner or ON IT like dead". Ephialtes it was not a Spartan monster but a local sheperd.Leonidas didnt die last one....

Although I did enjoy watching the movie🎥300 in the Theater when it came out, I did understand that the movie maker's took a lot of liberties with the actual facts of the history of Leonidas, Xerxes and the actual battle of Thermopolyie!🏛 Actually it was Xerxes, as a young Prince, that had to fight a Lion🦁 in a cell with a Spear, in order to pass his Manhood test to become a King of Persia! Leonidas became the King of Sparta by marrying the Kings daughter! Also the brave, fierce 300 Spartans were only able to make their legendary and glorious last stand at Thermopolyie, because of the success and ingenuity of the Greek Navel Commander Themystacles, who through his navel victories over the Persians, allowed for Leonidas and his 300 Spartans to amass at Thermopolyie without Persian blockades enroute!

Let's start from the fact that the movie is taken from a comic book...of course the Spartans were trained from the age of 7 and finished their training at 18...and for their whole life they were soldiers...of course they didn't wear a tunic and an underwear but complete armour...they were considered the best fighters in the world...with weapons very contemporary in relation to the Persians' mats and talin clothes...their formation was called phalanx and was considered the armored of the time...later it evolved from the Macedonian Greeks and the Romans...Sparta was always ruled by two kings...when one was fighting...the other was ruling...they were forbidden to take part in war for the duration of the Karneas...each Spartan was followed by his helot slave who was also fighting... in the battle of Thermopylae no horses or other animals were used due to the narrowness of the passage... until Leonidas came into contact with Xerxes... in general the movie moved in emotional contexts and not in reality... the oracle said that in order to save Sparta and Greece... its king had to be sacrificed...when information arrived that the Persians with the help of Ephialtes were encircling the Greeks...Leonidas gave the order to leave for their cities and they were left alone to face the Persians....only 1100 Thespians refused...well in total in the end there were 1700 Pochemists who sacrificed themselves...two phrases are known..."return with the shield or on it"...since that is how they honored the dead...and...then take...where means come and get it if you dare....thanks
