300 Blackout Subsonic Rounds from NON-SUPRESSED Rifle. Will it work?

I knew that the rounds would fire, but I'm not so sure (as clearly evidenced by the video) that I knew they wouldn't cycle like they did. Nevertheless, I think soon I finally need to get a supressor. I just need to bite the bullet and do it.
I didn't try the gel because I want to test more handgun stuff. I think the rifles tests I want to do would benefit from longer gel so it doesn't just pass right through it.
Two questions:
1) Does anyone know how long the wait it with the e-file?
2) What buffer weight should I use when I do get it supressed?

This just happened to me at the range today. I was going to zero my 300blk out with 200gr ammo so it would be somewhat ready for when I get my suppressor and I had this cycling issue for probably 30 out of the 60 rounds I shot and that’s with my adjustable gas block completely open. Wanted to try with 115gr ammo but had already spent too much on other ammo for different guns and I thought my buffer weight was the issue also but seams like it will work fine from what you showed in this video. I knew going this subsonic suppressed route was going to have some obstacles but hey it’s all about the journey and getting experience along the road.

Don't even bother trying to tune your gun without the can. Wait until you get it. Subs don't cycle well unsuppressed in most guns.

I love my super sonic 115gr Hornady bullets that I manufactured myself. If I remember they ran at 2100fps. The 145's are an awesome round for great knock down power. It's my Truck rifle. I built my own and highly recommend this because you can make choices on every component and end up with a $2200 gun with only a fraction of the cost. Also you can save a substantial amount when reusing old fired .556 brass. Pay particular attention to brass thickness by manufacturer though.

I just got a box of Hornady sub sonics and shot through mine no can and had no problems at all. Cycled smoothly. Now my lower is for my 556 that was built but still no problems. My upper is a psa 10.5 barrel and yes it was originally a pistol to begin with. Don't like the 556 in a pistol so it's set up as a rifle...

I’ve got the OG 300BLK built by Advance Armament Corp. It’s a great rifle. Using a YHM R9 on it right now. It’s shared time with an AR9. Eventually I’ll get a dedicated 30Cal can. Getting good accuracy with 220gr Ammo Inc StelTH rounds.

300 blkout is a great round. But the price has changed my mind. Unfortunately $1 plus a round has me sticking to my 7.62 x 39 Zastava M70s, but the 300 blkout pistol with a can (11 inch barrel) with 220 subs is an amazing close quarters/home defense gun

Agreed. It is expensive. Sig has had their non subs on their website for about a year not at under a dollar per round. It never a super cheap round. But yeah, with a can and a shorter barrel it is an excellent option for home defense

got to open that barrel port up to at least .095 it should cycle anything then, suppressed or unsuppressed. Add a rifle speed adjustable gas block to fine tune.

I have shot subs through mine without the suppressor and it worked I think they were 220 grains I only did it the one time like what you did.... But I have that same Winchester ammo there for 308 haven't shot it yet but I got a couple boxes of it.... Good content as always brother. Now I want to go do it again....

I built a 300 from all BA and Aero parts 10.3 BA Premium Barrel.....First of all a lightweight bolt carrier gives you more total mass flexibility with your buffer...using an RCA Low Mass BCG on Sub I am running a Sprinco Yellow Spring with an H2 buffer....when I run Super I pop that out and put in a Carbine Spring with a Spikes T3....everything is ejecting in the 3:30 - 4:30 range with lock back and no FTF both supressed and unsupressed on both rounds. Sub is super smooth...note ....lighter super bullets will feed in your regular AR mags but heavy 200-220 grain would not. Got 300 mags for heavy rounds and that solved 100% of feeding issues not related to over or under gassed.

For me the best platform I've found to run subs for home defense or truck gun is a pistol caliber such as an AR9 variant using 147g 960 FPS hollow points that's a blow back rather than a direct impingement or piston gas gun using slow moving rifle bullets that won't perform near as well at slow speeds.

That test will be coming eventually. I'm going to send my barrel of my EPC back to Aero and they're going to correct the issue they've been having with jhp's not cycling. From there I want to test more jhp's in there because it is stupid accurate

Without knowing more about your pistol rig, it is hard to say "don't shoot them". What length gas tube you have? Adjustable gas block vs. Open gas block? Buffer weight, spring strength?... Bla Bla Bla! Maybe its the magazine? But it appeared, it was under gassed to cycle the BCG.

True, every rifle is different. I guess my point is, if your rifle isn't set up for subs, it probably won't work as well as you think. Regular gas block. Pistol length gas tube

this is an odd result to me. I recently finished my 10.5 BLK PSA build and took it out to test it. It's running a H3 buffer and was short stroking the whole time with 150 gr AMMO INC. It consistently ejected at 5:30, so I will be switching to a lighter buffer and testing that out. Shitty ejection pattern aside, it ran 3 boxes of ammo without fail. I switched over to some 220gr AMMO INC Stelth Subsonics and it ran just fine without a supressor. I can't remember it's ejection pattern, but it never failed to cycle or eject the subsonics. The subsonics even felt better/smoother. Not sure if it's a rifle or ammo anomaly. the reason I even try and run subs without a can is because I'm a left handed shooter. As a lefty, I'm going to get a flow-through can to alleviate some of the gas I'm constantly eating to the face with normal cans. And from what i've read, Flow-throughs work best with subs if your weapon can cycle them without a can first.

I Wonder if the barrel length of 10.5 is a kind of weird length for both grain weights with an H3 buffer? I’m assuming it’s a Pistol length gas tube? Is it holding open without issues? If not and you want to use a flow through suppressor, you’ll definitely want to pick up that lighter buffer from what I understand. Still weird that its short stroking with supers though. 10.5 w pistol length gas tube should have plenty of dwell time..

You can easily shoot sub unsurpressed and have it cycle properly. Just change your buffer weight to be lighter and possibly the spring as well.

Would a H2 buffer help cycle the bolt suppressed and un suppressed. Or does all depend on the ammo?

A couple of different factors. Buffer weight, adjustable gas block and ammo. H2 is generally a do it all buffer weight

I have two lowers. One with standard AR15 buffer and buffer spring while the other has a Kynshot RB5000L buffer for 300blk and a SpringCo 25113 reduced power buffer spring. Its so fast to change out a buffer or buffer spring back to original though. I have an adjustable gas block i purchased as well but have not installed it yet.

Are you using a correct mag for 300 blk? If you're trying to run unsuppressed rounds thru a 556 pmag that is your problem. Pissing in the wind. I run subsonic unsuppressed no problem thru mine. Use the correct cal pmag.

Tried using 200 grain subs at the range the other day unsuppressed and I had the exact problem he had. And I use pmag 30 rd gen m3 300 blk out 7.62 x 35 specific mags.

I can’t get my 300 blackout to lock back or feed with subsonic loads. 10” barrel pistol length gas system. Carbine buffer and spring. I was having the exact same problem.

try H buffer because the carbine buffer is 3oz and that one is 3.8oz

@@gullahgeechee2699 tried that it made it worse. I also tried getting lighter than carbine buffer and a lighter spring. It just doesn’t get enough gas from subs without a suppressor. That or I could drill out the gas port in the barrel which I’m not doing lol
