I have a .300 blackout AR and love it. I've hit targets with it at 800m using supersonic ammo. Definitely can tell it's not designed for that type of range but still capable of doing it. It's all around a fun caliber that I love shooting. Main downside is that right now it's more expensive to shoot.

Shit I've made hits at 500 with subsonic out of a 7.5" barrel. It's just more artillery than direct fire, and has the energy of a wadded up piece of paper. If you're curious I was aiming at tree tops and a spotter was walking them in, not saying I'm a super sniper.

Agree. Industry needs to be experimenting with new powders and bullet materials. What the military chooses really sets the standard due to the volume they drive. Otherwise, it's the old hunting standards that seem to fill the shelves.

I don't think that much has changed with firearms since WW2 . The introduction of plastics into the stock is new (1980s). The trend to small caliber weapons to allow for more ammunition to carry . The really big changes with firearms is the optics, which continue to innovate and improve. The attempt at caseless ammo didn't work out and has been dumped.

One of the things with JDJ and SSK, they have a long history of producing proprietary cartridges, meaning the exact dimensions are considered "trade secret" .300-Whisper was one of those, made from a .221 fireball case, necked up. When AAC used a cut-down 5.56 case and submitted it to SAAMI, they had a winner on their hands, the only thing more common than .22LR and 9mm brass on most ranges is 5.56 brass. so now anyone could cut-down that brass to make .300BLK brass. Everyone could make barrels, and bullets and ammo for it. So it got adopted widely, and almost immediately. I still really like my 5.56 and that's my go to, but my .300BLK just makes me giggle.

After Obama and Clinton, the realities of ammo issues set in. Furthermore ALL commercial ammo for the 45-70 with one exception is loaded weak to cover the Springfield trap door. So I went to reloading my own. I fundamentally load 45-70 in a wide variety of choices and I load 300 blackout. Today my issue has been primers. Might as well be looking for teeth on a chicken. I am an engineer, machinist and woodworker. Guns are nothing but tools like a wood plane or shovel. Needed but not what interests me. The 45-70 keeps me eating elk steak dinners which I do enjoy.

@@deplorabledave1048 If you try to cut down 5.56 brass and make .300 Whisper, it won't chamber as the neck is too thick, you have to ream/turn the neck. The 7.62 vs 308, the 308 is designed for a higher pressure of 65000PSI, 7.62, even though many military firearms can handle that pressure, they're designed to work best with 50000PSI ammo. This is one of the reason federal GMM performs better than LR118.

Built a carbine 16", a 10.5 pistol now working on a 7.5" PDW. Love the cartridge and going between subsonic and 125gr supersonic. I was able to load 7.62 black tip and penatrate 1/4" armor plate in my 10.5"! Can get .223 sabots to cycle, too! You can do a lot with this.

@@hackmedia7755 The case volume of 308 is so large that no powder will use up that much volume without filler material that will clog up a sound suppressor. Also, 308 subsonic will not cycle a semi-auto. Moreover, it doesn't fit into AR magazines.

I've got a few barrels in the 300 whisper precursor that I've been shooting since 2008. Now switched over the 300BLK as you can actually buy everything you need commercially. I have a variety of progressive hearing loss and have tried to shoot everything suppressed, but aside from 22lr, the 300BLK is by far the easiest rifle round to get on target out to 150 yards. Since I only hunt out to about 75 yards, no question: I use it every time. My next favorite hunting round is suppressed 458 SOCOM, but those pricey little cigars only make a difference for bigger game.

We worked on this concept about the same time as Mr. Jones but his ballistics genius won out. Our round started with a 7.62x25 Tokarev case but loaded with a 147 grain FMJ.. It actually was a beautiful sub sonic round. We also created a 180 grain round in a .30 carbine case that was made straight walled and then slightly bottlenecked. this was a 150 yard max range round though. it destabilized extremely fast past that .but it was designed for very close quarters though.. We also designed a 12 ga Micro-Grenade and launcher.. Basically a mortar you could carry in a shoulder holster... The 80s were fun times.

Have heard the platform compared to the Vietnam Era. 45acp hushpuppy. May not have the speed of a .9mm or .556, but when 260gr of lead hits home, there's no question about the stopping power, and mitigation of over-penetration. I know it definitely wouldn't be mouse quiet indoors with no ear pro, but having shot an .50ae desert eagle indoors with no ear pro before, I know it wouldn't leave my ears ringing for minutes on end either.

I've got an mp5 (semi) and an MCX Rattler in 300blk. The mp5 is a toy in comparison. The issue with subsonic ammo for me seems to be loading it to a particular barrel length so you're getting 1,050ish fps. 190gr Sub-X and 194gr LeHighs are the most common expanding subsonic projos. Almost everything else won't expand or tumble reliably (even the 245gr bullets went straight through gel).

I have a wolfman suppressor coming in soon and Im wondering if subsonic 300blk would be enough for a deer or if I should just stick to supers. Ive only tested 300blk on the range a couple times but I have so many different bullet weights and brands ive tested and still have to keep testing since I got a new prism scope for my AR (110 vmax, several 125gr, 150gr, 190, 208 and 220gr). Any recommendations for your favorite bullet weight for subs and supers?

@@jackmemphis777 I would hunt with supers - specifically barns black tip. If you want to use subs on critters, then the Lehigh 194s are about all I'd recommend. For practice ammo I load 220gr berry's, but have had accuracy issues with them. I run only subs with a 9mm can that goes back and forth from my mp5. Got 2 .30 cans in atf jail.

I have the MCX with all the barrels and accessories. It is my favorite weapon. The 300 blk round is my go to due to it's versatility. The only issue I have with SIG is that they never released the 7.62x39 conversion kit for the MCX platform like they promised. Only 5.56 and 300 blk.

35 years ago I was involved in Firearms retail and spent a lot of time sitting around reading through whatever was at hand in the store. We would hand load ammunition to use in the range downstairs so inevitably I read a lot about ballistics. Too much in fact. Even back then the talk was about 9 mm versus 40 cal which led me to think along the lines of a 40-cal MP5 or even 30 carbine to upgrade the weapons effectiveness. Then years later when I read about 300 Blackout when it first appeared I said that's it, there's your serious MP/carbine ammo.

Yessir. One of my ccl weapons is loaded with the humble subsonic Eley in 22 lr. It sounds weak, but it's quiet (not creating mass chaos), very low recoil and accurate at closer ranges, little if any over penetration concerns, and for the naysayers - take a double tap to face, throat or genitals and see who' still laughing. Furthermore, practice is relatively affordable and with even a modest bullet trap you can practice in the garage or even living room without messing things up.

A longer bullet can overcome a great deal of subsonic rounds' perceived lack of penetration. Hornady's 220 gr ELD-X is predicted to be only 8.23 feet low at 1000 yards at 778 fps and it got there in 3.29 seconds.

3:33 edit: The .300 blk does not have more powder loaded into it. In fact it has less due to the shorter case capacity and longer projectile, albeit a faster burning powder needed for a shorter barrel. (.300 BLK reaches mostly complete burn at 8" barrel, vs 12" for the 5.56) It is the weight of the bullet (often 2-3 times as much weight as a normal 55gr or 62 gr 5.56 NATO round) which causes any increase in felt recoil due to the inertia which can be countered some with proper gas tuning and a heavier weight buffer. (Edit: this last bit was partially incorrect cause I forgot something lol, see comments from @Savage2Flinch below:) [Also, a suppressor doesn't really mitigate recoil through trapping/redirecting gases like a compensator or muzzle break, it does it through added weight on the end of the barrel.]

The weight of the bullet is NOT what accounts for most of the recoil in a firearm. It's the gasses which jet out of the muzzle, usually overtaking the bullet over a short distance. It's something known as the "rocket effect". If this weren't the case, then a muzzle break wouldn't work. Think about it.

More specifically, it's not a reaction against the inertia of the accelerating bullet, but simply the firearm behaving like a rocket for a short time when high velocity gases jet out the front of the muzzle. And a suppressor (a.k.a. silencer) can reduce recoil by up to 60%, simply by slowing down the gasses. That's how silencers work, and that's why a muzzle break is still loud, despite it redirecting gasses: a silencer slows the gasses down by causing them to be reflected back on themselves by the baffles inside. The kinetic energy of the gases is turned into heat, and the gases exit subsonically behind the bullet, instead of in a supersonic cone in front, reducing both recoil and report.

@@Savage2Flinch That's partially correct but you're forgetting that the mass of the projectile itself plays heavily into that equation, especially when it comes to felt recoil which is what I was talking about. A 300blk or even like a .44 mag handgun round with less powder and therefore less gas and expansion has more felt recoil than a 5.56 despite the 5.56 having a higher chamber pressure so if it were solely dictated by the expansion of gasses then this would not be the case. Due to the equal and opposite reaction of accelerating a heavier mass, the initial recoil impulse delivered into the shooter's shoulder before any mitigation by buffer, recoil pad, etc, is larger. Where gas comes back into play is the burn rate and velocity of the cartridge which speed + mass = increase in inertia and increase in felt recoil. I do admit that I forgot about the effect of the suppressor turning the gasses subsonic though lol.

​@@dutchrjen I agree for the most part. You got the muzzle break right, but I would put 60% of the recoil in the gas, because it's moving faster than the bullet. It has to. It's under pressure, even at the muzzle. If that weren't the case, then near the end of the barrel the gas pressure would be negligible. So the gas has a higher kinetic energy per unit mass, and kinetic energy is proportional to the square of velocity, so the difference matters.

"The MCX performs better with a 6/9 barrel" Not really the case. I would hate to steer citizens away from an AR based platform that will most likely be cheaper (Q stuff excluded.) my 7" 300 blackout has massive recoil compared to the 5.56 12" barrel I have with supersonic ammo. I even got a tuned gas block from black river tactical to try and tame it a little bit but it's insane and follow up shots are way better with 5.56 for me. Think I can put a heavier buffer in or something?

Love your videos. I'm 3 minutes and 31 seconds into this one and I just have to make some clarifications..... I think I built my first AR in 300 AAC in 2012 not long after SAAMI approval, but 300 Whisper has been around a lot longer still--not 2015 when SIG/Sig USA may have started overzealously marketing it or whatever. AAC pushed it through SAAMI, not "Sig". There is more powder in a 5.56 case than there is in a 300 AAC case. I have loaded tens of thousands of them. Depending on the powder and projectile combo, subsonic Blackout contains a bit less than half the weight of powder in grains when compared to a 5.56x45mm. The increased felt recoil from a subsonic Blackout is because the projectile weighs four times as my as a 55gr .244 proje' from a 5.56. Love your channel keep up the good work.

I remember when .300 BLK first came out. I picked up two Umlaut AR’s (made in NH where I was living at that point in time) and fitted them with OSS cans. I had never owned a suppressed rifle before and everything else I had was 5.56 or 7.62x51 and 39 and I was told that 5.56mm didn’t suppress well and at that point in time financially it wasn’t an option for me. Anyways after putting a few hundred rounds down range out of both of them (one is an SBR and one has a 16” barrel) I was absolutely blown away. Compared to the M4 I had during OIF even without a can, the performance was night and day.

i built my own blackout around three years ago but since we're not allowed to have "mufflers" in california, i went with the super sonic, 16" barrel configuration. one of the main issues i saw with the blackout was the cyclic problems of this system. looking further into the problem, the obvious conflict was running 220 gr rounds with a pistol length gas system without a suppressor. my build was a full on rifle length gas tube where the first thing done was drill out the gas port to .125" and put on an adjustable block. on the other end, an adjustable buffer which got set up as H3 to start. making my own loads using .308/125 gr tips, i was hitting targets at 200 yards without malfunctions unsuppressed. no weight adjustments on the buffer and none to the gas block. if you don't have to be 'quiet', i recommend this build because you can hit hard until you run out of ammo and if needed, press two pins, swap to a 5.56 NATO upper, carry on the fight using the same ammo and mags as those around you. this is not something you can do with a 7.62 x 39 platform.

I've used a short barreled .300 blackout with a suppressor in a night shoot-house with PVS-15s. It was pretty sweet (for that application). Let's be honest though, subsonic, ballistics is basically identical to the .45 acp.

Depends. Subsonic 300 ACC has a better ballistic coefficient so it maintains its power far longer than .45 acp and fmj can go through more than what 45 acp could. Then you have the option to go supersonic...

Even stateside doing a lot of the higher risk security contracting we have seen an uptick in .300AAC usage, particularly in vehicle-based operations. Considering the weapons are generally smaller in profile due to the reduced length of the firearms (especially when guys are rocking integrated suppressor setups) as well as the less obtrusive noise profiles from when weapons go hot, it makes sense that more and more we are seeing usage of it. I think SOCOM now has some new special 220gr projectiles with a Tungsten core for subsonic close range body armor penetration. I think it's the same projectile they wanted for the 300 Norma Mag sniper rifle.

The round is more like a 30-30 but the brass is a cut down 7.62x39. The official caliber for 300 blk is 7.62x35. I own one with both 300 and 556 barrels. You can change them out very easily and quickly. Would highly recommend. I still have some steel 300 from Czech Republic before the ban. It is in fact a little longer than the us made 300 with brass

@@no-sway3709 Don’t feel alone in trying to work up BLK loads. I have blown up two bolts so far messing with that volatile 296. 34,000 psi my ass. Seems like less than max loads with any airspace greatly increase pressure. I’m getting better results with CFE BLK at only 27,000 psi and 19.0 to push a 150 to about 1950 fps. IF, I can find it, and it’s pricey. I’m currently loading various charges of IMR 4227 to try out.

France special forces despite being NATO (GIGN) in 7.62x39 Finland switched from 5.56 and uses 7.62x39 Bulgaria uses 7.62x39 Russian alpha groups use 7.62x39 out of mid length barrels. As seen in larry Vickers videos. Russians use a mix between 5.45x39 and 7.62x39. And even produce new modernised AKs in 7.62x39 Here in Europe we have tons of subsonic rounds etc and 7.62x39 has more energy. I cant understand why people choose a round that isn't used by any military or police agencies. Unless you guys don't have the ammo options we have in Europe

I've been using a .300 BLK in an AR platform for a few years for daylight hog hunting. I love the 120 grain ballistics but you have to be very precise if you want to drop the hog within a decent distance. I switched to 220 grain subsonic, which I had no idea there would be so much of a drop difference. Once I figured that out, I could whack feral hogs with that thing better than Robert DeNiro with a baseball bat.

I got a new PA 3x prism scope for my 300BLK AR (I still have to zero it) but when its zeroed at 50 yards it has drop indicators for both 125gr and 220gr ammo. I have so many different bullet weights for 300BLK though but at least it should make it easier to switch between supers and subs and remain accurate out to a couple hundred yards

I having been loading 300 blackout for several years. I run a AAC 7.62 SDN can on an AR platform and a Rem. 700 tactical chassis. Nothing is more silent than a 300 blackout bolt rifle. With all of the different .30 cal bullets around the choices are endless.

I have a 300 Blackout on an AR platform. I use it for both hogs and deer. I would not use it for hunting for shots over 200 yards, but inside that the supersonic rounds have plenty of punch. It's ballistics are similar to the 7.62x39 AK round. There is a big difference in the sound between the supersonic and subsonic ammo - that supersonic crack is very noticeable. With the subsonic rounds you can hear the bullet hit the target. I really like the round. It is enough for east Texas hunting and is very versatile.

I made my own 300BLK rounds from .556 cases. It was a process. I had to anneal the cases after cutting them down then again after resizing them. This way I could use a variety of brass brands. I loaded most of them subsonic with a 208gr bullet. Love that round for home defense.

Get the 300 BO magazines for it, as well. Lancer and Magpul are the best. And mark your magazines so you know the difference, a 300 BO round will fit in your AR15, which would make for a very bad day.

A heavy subsonic round wasn't the magic part. Making it function with a standard AR bolt and magazine was. The 9x39 round was the same basic concept, but you can't just change the barrel on an AK and use it, as the front trunnion and gas system would have to be modified, and standard AK mags won't work.

Reloading the ammo requires dies suited for AR use. The powder used is W296 or H110 ball powder, the same powder used in a 454 Casull load. The 300 AAC needs 8-20 grains of powder and most powder measures aren't designed for how small this volume is. Tool companies will say their measures will throw this small volume, but they usually mean Unique powder and not W296. The volume of 9 grains of W296 in a 1/4" hole is about .005". You can build a replacement insert for your powder measure out of acrylic rods. I figure they will come out with a new gun powder in the next 2 years specifically designed for the 300 AAC.

Hello :) It is probally not an important detail but I feel like it should be mentioned. The major drawback is the 300 BLK is that it is unable to penetrate body armor rated higher than 3A (NIJ Standard) depending on the ammo type used. 9x39 and 12.7x55 (Russian) can penetrate IV. 9x39 penetrates 2.8mm of titanium at 200 yards

For us civilian armchair types to whom the Stoner design is about the only shoulder fired weapon that we’re intimately familiar with due to our prior, relative uneventful military service days before the world got a lot more evil, the 300 AAC Blackout is a great tool. An upper that slaps onto your existing lower when you want something substantial enough for deer that are within 100-300 yard, other game, etc. I don’t currently have anything in that caliber, but your video presentation really hit on the important reasons for the 300 AAC’s existence.

It's all grain related, thus making a heavier round the higher the grains. Anything around 200 grains will be subsonic, but also travels slower than supersonic. Subs can also have cycling issues based on weapon platforms.

@@MrJento 9mm which you used in your original post is metric. 9 millimetre (millimeter for Americans). Also 9mm is a 30 cal. round, .354 of an inch. The VSS is closer to 35-40 years old and the 9x39 began development in the 1940s and has also been around for 40 years.

@@efoxneo Thanks. I do know that 9mm is typically .356 in a Luger. The makarov runs .362. I’m not sure of the VSS as to exact caliber, case length or age. I know it’s 9 mm, I know it’s quiet and slow. I know everybody went bonkers when we first got one in the 1980’s from Afghanistan. And operationally it’s about like this blackout. I am familiar with the metric system. I just don’t like it. That’s ok. They are getting ready to change it again for what the 6 or 7 time? As to metric cartridges. People say metric is better. More accurate. Our old “38” calibers were actually .357-358 inch. Unless they were a long colt, .375 or a smith and wesson .362. Then there was the 36 navy which was .376-380. What I did not get for years was the “by” designation of the metric system. I like the 6.5 Swedish mauser. I’ll even call it 6.5x55 to make every body happy. It’s a true 6.5mm aka .264. But then there are a lot of other old 6.5mm. The greek 6.5x54. It’s actually a .261-2 bore. The Italian carcano is .268-9, Manlicher is .267-8 and so forth. Then the X metric case length is a joke. You measure to the datum point on the shoulder of the case. Not total length. The datum point is defined in the print but it’s not easily located on the case to actually measure. The variation in all the 6.5 mm bullet diameters is not sloppy machine work. It due to the fact that the millimeter was re-defined twice in the 1890-1910 period when most 6.5 calibers were designed. On paper they are all 6.5 but in reality they run .260-.271 in diameter. By contrast the inch has been stabile and unchanged since the 1780’s. Not so the meter. Now people don’t like the inch. They say it’s hard to use. Fractions and all. So 6.5mm as opposed to 264/1000. Except you can express any fraction as a decimal. .264 for example. In the end only one nation put a man on the moon. That feat was done using the inch as a standard. Not the meter. NASA switched to metric in the mid-80’s so that we could play nice with the EU and dock with the Soviet space station. We have not been back to the moon. Lost a space shuttle. Have to ask Russia to give us a ride to the space station. And three out of seven of our mats rovers crapped out before the design life was up. Meanwhile we have old probes built in the inch days in the 70’s surprising people because the are still sending data back 40 years after they were supposed to die. One has even left the solar system and is still talking. So yes I’m an old Fudd. I like things in thousandths of an inch. Not to the nearest tenth of a millimeter. Especially when you don’t tell me which of six slightly different millimeters your talking about. I still have to get a calliper out, measure your metric part, then I can set a tool up and make the part. In inches. Adjusted to agree with your millimeter. The one you happen to be using today. Not the one you used 70 years ago. Fox, the Fudd, out.

I followed a guy growing up who had built a number of .300 AR variants working the bugs out of the system. It's cool to see what has come out of the .300 Blackout. Most folks don't know or understand the amount of work that enthusiasts go through to get these wildcats out of the loading shack into the wild. At that point most loads fail to have a strategic purpose: it's cool to see .300 Blackout has been found to be handy. We know the future of combat is likely to take us into deep, dark, confined spaces, so it appears as though it has a future.

I normally love this channel, but this just so happens to be a topic that I’m very knowledgeable on, and wow, there is a lot “wrong” - not necessarily incorrect, but the back and forth between stats for supers and subs would be highly confusing for someone without knowledge of the caliber. The beginning makes it seem like the 300BLK came out in 2015, the end mentions US forced switching between M4 and AK variants, etc etc. Makes me question the validity of the other videos. Happy to explain to anyone confused by this.

.300 blk is a 30 cal round jammed into a 5.56 case so all you need to do to convert an AR is a barrel swap. Does that help?

I'm not confused about the practical side of things, but the video said ".762 caliber" and ".556 caliber" and I don't think that's correct. I know it's pedantic to correct small mistakes like this but I'm just a bit surprised a channel this level makes such a basic mistake. Not here to hate whatsoever.

His content is awesome, and he totally blew up - but what I love about him is that he's just a normal guy like us, just clueing us civvies into the military stuff he knows. I love the 300 Blk out ! I use it in a suppressed Sig Rattler ! You might want to talk about the 458 SOCOM also ! It was quietly developed after Mogadishu by certain Special Forces units to kill insurgents high on drugs !

I built one. Not an MCX obviously but an AR platform based on WWSD, but 300 blk with a 10 inch barrel and a thunder chicken. I love it. With subs & supers it is pure death on pigs.

A little disappointed that you didn't mention the other great advantage of 300BLK, the ability to switch between subsonic and supersonic loads. This requires switching the gas settings on MCX like you mentioned. You also had a couple "B" rolls with the 9mm version MPX-K not the MCX 300BLK lol. Love the content ❤️

I bought a ‘pistol rifle’ w 300 blackout. I liked it. I went to outside range, shot off all the ammo I had. After that I couldn’t find any 300 ammo in the stores. The guy I bought it from offered me a colt 556 rifle and a glock pistols for it. Since I couldn’t find any ammo I traded it away for a colt 556 and a Glock 26. Good deal!

You guys need to take up reloading. I wouldn't encourage you to buy a 300BLk to run suppressed subsonic without knowing how to load for it. Berry's 200gr bullet + casing used 5 times + primer + powder (n120/AA1680/H110) comes out to about $.40/round which is unfortunately the same cost as .223 for me since powder is almost $.10/bullet for .223.

I assembled a Palmetto State pistol lower into a .300AAC package with a 7" barrel, Law Tactical folding adapter, and Sandman K silencer. It's probably my favorite gun, and intended as a backpack EDC option in my truck or out in a crowded place for a day with the family. Did I mention it also has a Pantheon Arms DOLOS takedown kit installed? The whole thing packs down to a 10"x12" size and can be assembled and deployed in 20 seconds. The sidearm will be for immediate response, but 30 rounds of .30 cal hate lies in waiting should an active shooter situation unfold where I happen to be. Great caliber for the job.

Sounds like a nice tactical rifle to replace the SMG. Seems to run very much like the AR platform when in use, so you really only need to remember it's not an MR when you're not in combat. I like the idea, more bang for the same capabilities.

It's primarily for missions you need silence and cqc, most of the engagements involving this gun will be well within the 200 to 300 meters and in the hands of a higher tier soldier than infantry man 7. Like I said it feels more like an SMG replacement. More range and power for similar size and quiet.

As a special forces and bodyguard detail weapon, it has several advantages. For high value target elimination, it has a viable role. For stealth missions, it has a viable role. However, I don't see this as a general-issue firearm. If we are going to a new caliber for mass issue, it's probably the 6.8mmx51 you've been talking about. It hits harder, has longer range, higher rate of fire, and generally speaking simply outperforms the 300 Blackout. However, given our military's hesitancy to adopt a new caliber for logistical reasons, I don't see this as likely either until supply for the 6.8 ammo has been secured. So don't worry M4. Daddy isn't going to go out for a pack of smokes any time soon.

I run an 8” 300 blackout with a suppressor. Combined length is right at 15.” With 220 grain subsonic it’s great due to how quiet it is. Only the slapping of the bolt being the main noise maker. With 110 grain supersonic TTSX rounds it is quite lethal. Those things retain all their weight and consistently mushroom into a .6~.8” flower Penetration is great and it’s super deadly. The 220 grain is interesting. Most blow right through everything and done leave much of a wound channel with little if any expansion. But for indoor shot placement they will do the job discreetly. I’m a bolt action both the 300 and 308 are so quite even a suppressed .22 doesn’t compare. No one will know you fired a bullet. Out to 100 yards we get around 500 lb-ft of energy. Enough to get the job done

I was long out of SF and the Army when we got a few SMG size .300 Blackouts, but I did get to shoot on both semi and auto. AWESOME toy! After that I bought one, minus the auto feature. The ones that they had a few samples of were by Q, the Honey Badger, and the same one that I bought. It really is like magic, but I hated buying 2 tax stamps.

Simping for Sig it works in any AR platform chambered in 300BO, honesty T1 groups have huge budgets so the need to switch barrels in between missions seem foolishly. The only reason to run a 300BO is Suppressed in a mission specific role. If not go back to the 556 that seems the norm. I’ve not heard of teams running 300BO non suppressed/non subsonic your giving up range

I remember back in 1965 hearing a US general say the AK47 is an obsolete, ineffective weapon. Yet it soldiers on. I don't see a huge advantage over the original AK here. Just another "miracle weapon."

@@useruser400 the AK was obsolete in 1965. 300 blk is underpowered for general warfare. It would be too easy to sit outside it’s effective range and take pot shots. I had one for a little. It’s probably good for cqb but I don’t do that.

@@cokinator100ify Obsolete (per Webster): “no longer produced or used; out of date.” The AK might not be your platform of choice (nor mine) but it is ubiquitous and its improved variants are still being fielded today. Spray and pray will apparently always be a battlefield tactic. So “obsolete” is a bad adjective to use when defining the AK platform. Are there better combat platforms/calibers out there? Certainly. But the same is true for the M-16 family; that doesn’t make it “obsolete.” I never meant to suggest that the 300 BLK should be anyone’s do-all combat weapon of choice. But in some scenarios it could have applications. I’m sure you can run the ballistics and compare 5.56 KE values to those of supersonic 300 BLK. Not much difference, unless your shooting with short barrels, then the 300 BLK (which uses pistol powder) rules. And switching between supersonic and subsonic with a magazine change just has some inherent coolness. Is it an operationally significant capability? I don’t know, I’m not an operator. But I think it’s an amazing design feature. It’s definitely not the “gimmick cartridge” that so many internet pundits insist that it is. I handload 110 gr Nosler Varmageddon bullets and push them at 2415 fps (16” barrel). It’s like a Win 30-30 in an AR platform. I also have a 10.5” pistol that launches those same bullets at 2200 fps. Those are both hell on feral hogs out to 150 yds, which is all I need when hunting in my heavily wooded environment. Yes my AR-10 carbine packs more energy, but it’s also much heavier and harder to lug around. Do I still use my AR-10? Yes, if I’m ambushing hogs in open fields and my targets could run out past 200 yds, then I want my .308 Win to reach out and touch them.

@@useruser400 My 7.62x39 AR-15 drops deer and hogs inside 200 yards with 35 cent Barnaul soft points that are heavier and faster (Barnaul 125gr soft tip @ 2550 ft/s from a 16" barrel) than .300blk supersonic loads. Honestly, I have had a really hard time trying to justify .300blk and I'm a combat vet who's been in dozens of actual firefights using the m4 platform in Afghanistan. From a hunting perspective I could never justify it over 7.62x39 either.

@@useruser400 The AK platform is subpar only for two reasons: poor optics mounting accommodations, and outdated/poor ergonomics and controls. Rocker mags, bad safety/selector ergonomics, bad charging handle ergonomics, a dust cover where every other modern battle rifle has optics rails. The round is still a great intermediate cartridge assuming you don't intend to square off against 5.56 at 300m+.

Both are true, in the 125 gr it very 762x39. At 220 gr it very 45 acp+p+ at range.
