Instead of spending nearly $300 on tacky, hot-glue DIY projects and cluttering up her dorm, you could have spend it on a few, organizational products of quality to help create a comfortable and more open space.

It looks great, but the room divider blocks off the light from the window for the room mate. I wouldn't be too happy if I was the room mate tbh.
@Lioness0066 жыл бұрын
If it is used at night for sleeping, it wouldn't be an issue though. Also, with all the panels in the curtain, they can leave half of it open and only have it blocking the bed area.

The divider doesn’t even go all the way to the end of the room, where the window is. It only blocks to the end of her bed so the window will still go through

Yikes they should NOT be using glass on the lap pillow. I get that you needed a hard surface, but glass, especially in cheap picture frames, can't handle weight and acute pressure very well and might shatter, especially if it's not reinforced with something else. Would it cost that much more for cheap scrap wood the same size and just sanding it down and gluing cloth to it for the hard surface? It's much sturdier and safer. Or get a much more durable piece of acrylic.

It just over all made no sense... the glass itself was going to get really hot after a while since.. a laptop is going to be on it... so I don't quite understand the point of it... But in general I don't understand the point of doing a dorm room overhaul for a room so tiny and no personal space. It's all just a huge waste of 300$ if you ask me. It's college for goodness sake not a home.. you're only in it for a few years save money and just rough it out in a slightly pleasing room.

As a college student who had a pretty cozy dorm room this past year, it will be absolute hell to try to haul that much stuff home. It feels good while you're living there, but the transport.... she'll probably have to get rid of a lot of that stuff, especially the fake plants and most of the pillows, and possibly the bookends and other odds and ends, depending on what she ends up using a lot. I do really like the curtain of lights though; it's something really simple (both to do and transport!) that I feel creates a really nice vibe in the space. The fake candles are similar, and are something that Charlotte will probably want to hang on to if she plans on living in the dorms again. The desk baskets are also a good idea because let's face it, we're not all super organized and it's nice to have a place to let stuff collect without it looking too trashy. Overall, I think I agree with other comments that some of the DIYs could have had more time put into them to make them look really polished, and that this makeover was ultimately not really suited for a dorm room (as someone who made the mistake of bringing too much stuff my first year). But there are some really good ideas in the video that could be used to really spruce up maybe an apartment bedroom/living room area, just somewhere a little more permanent than a dorm.

that first DIY is so useless... 1. it will be so uncomfortable to place your hand on that "desk" because of the sharp edge and how the frame is not leveled with the glass 2. Unless you're dorm allows you to store your stuff with them for the break or you've got a really big car, it's difficult. My freshman year roommate had a lot of those extras like pictures and lights and her parents struggled to pack it all on moving day.

Melissa T. Well you must consider that the roommate might have not been interested in the first place to get her part of the room done aswell... but I would feel a little bit grumpy though yes if I saw that a roommate suddenly had such a lovely and cozy space and I was still living in this kind of dorm-factory 😅 But still if you have a friendly, reeespectful and nice relationship with your roommate to start with then you can always offer to help cozying up their side over time as well if it turned out that they like the makeover a lot too! And I bet the roommate loves the privacy-curtain aswell. I mean: who doesn't want a bit of privacy from time to time?!! 😲 and they can ofcourse always talk about when they want to pull it in since it is *optional* at all times ofcourse!

What does being a dude have to do with anything? I'm a girl, and I don't understand why men always have to make a point to say "I'm a dude" when it comes to cooking, cleaning, being artsy, and stuff like that. Its meant for everyone.
@user-qx8cz9yx9v6 жыл бұрын
are you supposed to sew with your vagina? bc otherwise your gender wouldnt matter.. it's about dexterity (unless you're using a sewing machine but they're pretty pricey for students and if you dont sew often it just takes up the space and kinda not worth buying)

wow didn’t realise my comment would offend anyone. My most humble apologies. Sewing is def a skill for any human. I’m only amazed by my own skill, and being hopeless at most things. Needle and thread to mend my broken heart :)

Avah Ann Don’t confuse “common sense” with “hate”. A person with good common sense will know not to use glass for a lap top tray. Nor will they hot glue fabric for pillows that will need to be washed. The truth is the designer is not very good at her job, and just wasted $300.00!

Also, “Dorm rooms don’t allow you to have candles or an open flame or anything fun!” Girl, do you know how many stupid college kids would leave their candles on and almost burn down the dorm room? Even I knew that in college.

@N7Biotic6 жыл бұрын
I can barely afford a week worth's of food and live in overly priced accommodation - would never be able to afford anything like this XD. In the UK you are barely in your dorm for a year - not even worth it unfortunately.
@possiblychey6 жыл бұрын
N7Biotic I know! It's like private schools price there dorms way too high. 12,000 for 9 months in a little tiny room that you have to SHARE. Ridiculous.
@N7Biotic6 жыл бұрын
SkilletCrumpet Damn!!! that's a huge amount 😲 my accommodation is a flat which costs me around 6000 for 10 months. if i was currently in halls (or dorms) you looking at almost 8000 grand at my uni for your own room. and then adding another 9000 grand per year for uni tuition 😂 I'm barely left with few hundred pounds to last 3 months at a time. Can't work as uni is 5 days a week.. just a no go. I can't even put poster on my wall as you will get fined 😂

No hate but, why would you be so cheap when doing something nice for someone? Thrift store, seriously... go to IKEA. You made a damn pillow out of a worn shirt. Not "I'm cheap so I gave her my old crap and thrift store junk... just saying. .-.

Should've just gotten some non-permanent contact paper from like Target or walmart, made an accent wall, covered the whole interior of the desk, and the wardrobe. Would've looked a lot better instantly for much much cheaper. Contrary to the other comments, I actually think the dirt idea and tea lights were cute But also should've filled the wall space with more than just the "neon" thing. And could've found a cute and relatively affordable divider standee made out of wood instead of a sheet
