My favorite inline 6 cylinder 4 wheel drive FORD pickup truck motor with manual transmission is the 1982 XL250. Good fuel mileage and plenty of torque for towing a horse trailer !

I've a 78 Econoline with the same motor, 3 speed. It has over 375,000 on it, head's never been off it since new. It was purchased new by an uncle, who willed it to me when he passed in '91. It had 5,600 miles on it. I will have this van for the rest of my life... it is totally stock... runs smooth... but thinking of a light mod like yours. Just put new plugs and wires in it today...

I have a 300 in my '65 F100. I ran 240's before the 300. 39 years on the last 240...I put the efi exh mnflds on. Wow ! the difference in power was stunning ! I have the efi exh mnflds on the 300 again. There are two plain jane mufflers then two short pipes that turn before the pass rear tire ( Less back pressure ). I still use the 1V carb and oil bath air filter. The 300 is even stronger than the 240 ( of course ! ). With this set up I don't need a V-8. All the best, Pete 🙂

VERY nice truck! I too have a 300 six in my 1995 F150, 4x2, 5 speed manual. It goes in tomorrow to stop the oil hemorrhaging... 100 miles per quart. I am getting too old to tackle the oil leaks. Oil pan gasket (botched up by previous owner), porous oil pan, leaking oil pressure sending unit, valve cover gasket, side cover gasket, possibly rear main seal. The PCV valve is functioning ok. The only seal that doesn’t leak is the front cover, and I’ll have them change it while things are apart. Very strong engine, even for 198k. I expect I’ll get another 100k or more out of it. It currently has 198k+ on the clock. I bought it over 12 years ago and it’s a southern truck. Very minimal sheet metal rust, super solid frame. I do not drive it when the roads are snowy or salty (I live in MA and it is not my daily driver). Your truck is a beauty. 👍

Zach Shipley no. It runs so much better, smoother and noticeable power bump. I have no overdrive in my truck and on the highway with the old carb, it was really working hard to go even 60 mph. Now I look down and don’t even realize I’m doing 70 all the time. The motor really feels like it has a lot more breath. Going up hills and being under load, definetly doesn’t take as much throttle as before.

Nice! I have the same setup except I put an Edelbrock carb on mine. I changed to the newer AVS2 carb and it made quite a difference. The annular boosters gave me much crisper throttle response and torque off the line. I also put a Thompson Performance powerblast plate on it which made the last little remnants of a stutter disappear when i hit the throttle. I’m trying my best to get more fuel economy in preparation for a trip from CA to Arkansas. I’m planning on switching from ported to manifold vacuum advance to get more timing at cruise and running an HEI to get that low load cylinder charge ignited as much as possible. I’ve been able to get my ‘72 F350 flatbed from 9 mpg to 18 currently. Next I’ll fiddle a bit more with the timing and put an overdrive unit on it. Should be over 20 mpgs easy!

The 2bbl webber carb they sent works well, but even with my mixture screws set in all the way it still runs a little bit rich. Not sure what Id need to do for jetting to fix that, might just go with a new carb at some point.

yeah its been mentioned already but this is a dual plane manifold isnt it? or does does offenhauser make 2 diifinline 6 intakes? if its the dual plane , you have your carb 90 degrees out of phase and are basically running 3 cylinders on the larger ports and 3 cylinders on the smaller ports Probly not ideal Your secondaries should both be feeding the larger ports and main 2 bbls feed the 2 smaller ports

Your primary carburator throttle are feading cylinder 1 to 3, secondary 4 to 6. I know that´s the only way you can place the carb over the manifold or 180 degrees around. I modified mine 90 degrees so primary are closer to the engine, just like Offenhauser clams to set up the carbs.

I’ve been interested in a setup like this for a while but now it’s a reality as my old carb is beginning to leak causing my motor not to start as well as the fact that it runs too rich and fouled plugs after only 2500 on my rebuild. Anyway that’s all beside the point. I am going to order and use the same parts, (intake, carb, exhaust manifold) as you did. I shouldn’t need any other items to complete this other then new manifold mounting hardware and gaskets, an air cleaner, and a spacer plate to go between the carb and intake correct? Also did you run into any complications with your installation? Awesome truck I hope to have a similar running engine soon!

@@Wayz5145 My friend bought a 96 E150 handicap equipped, he put over 400,000 miles on it, that is why I got this one. The 96 has the ignition mounted on a heat sink on the fender away from the distributor, but you can't change the fact the capacitors in the ECM are old and either will have failed, or be ready to, get them replaced, have a restriction plate made for the EGR, you don't want to remove it, just limit the gasses going through, throttle body gaskets are only good for 30,000 miles then they crack and get sucked in, either replace the injectors or have them sonic cleaned, and this engine uses the highest fuel pressure, its to combat vapor lock as the exhaust is by the intake, so it cycles the fuel quickly through the rails to keep it cool, 55PSI is normal, low pressure pump in the tank, collector on the rail followed by a high pressure pump. Remove the smog rail, the plug need be machine thread, not pipe thread, plug up the head, there are available heads without the smog holes, be sure to leak down test it first to look for burnt valve, or valve leaking, I'm still fighting to keep mine running in gear, no vacuum leak found, could be internal like a valve.

Thanks for the video XC. I'm doing this intake conversion right now on my '86 and wondering a couple things: 1. What size carb spacer did you use? 2. Do you have a link or part # for the throttle linkage set up you used? Thanks for your time.

Could you tell me a little more about the heat plate to warm the manifold? From what I read online that is a concern when switching to this intake because the exhaust manifold doesn’t heat the intake. Thanks
@rumrivertriples4073
@rumrivertriples4073 4 жыл бұрын
It is from RASO enterprises. It allows the coolant from the heater hoses to run against the bottom of the intake and warm it up more quickly/consistently. Seems to work well as the drivability seems better in those first few miles after cold startups

@@rumrivertriples4073 Yes, the northern.midwest accent. I wonder how a 4.9L running on propane would do. They certainly run clean with no fouling of plugs. They run better with high compression pistons or head decking to raise the compression. Seeing the specs on the Honda GX NG Civic they had compression ratios of 12.5:1. Propane should work pretty well unless its gets SUPER, SUPER COLD liquefies @ -44°F. Natural gas isn't as available as propane. Hard to get a hold of out on the interstates. @rumrivertriples4073

Fair question. I spoke to several inline 6 enthusiasts who had a distaste for the DP manifold on anything beyond a stock rebuild that was mileage focused. I chose the "C" manifold so I'd have an improvement over stock when used as-is, but have room to grow if I ever decide to fully build the rest of the engine down the road.

@@connected6782 yes, I did end up buying the SL-450-VS Quick Fuel carb from Summit. When I installed it I realized the carb had been sitting backward on the Dual Port Offy intake. The primaries need to face the valve cover on the 300 I6, which makes the throttle face the firewall. That posed another problem for me because I couldn’t get to the throttle cable to route right. The heater box was in the way. Ended up buying the Offy C-Series intake and everything lined out nicely. And man what difference! She’s straight butta now. I did have to adjust timing to get the right idle. But that’s because the guy had it way advanced!!

Beautiful pickup and a helpful video! I am going to try your set up in my 1968. I have a question unrelated to the video topic. I noticed your upper radiator hose enters the radiator on the passenger side. Does your lower radiator hose also hook to the radiator on the passenger side? Do you know your top and bottom radiator hose sizes? Sorry to be a bother, but I am struggling to find a decent radiator for my 1968 and I was thinking about shopping for 1979 components instead. I might share my email if you respond. Have a great day!

@@deadcarnahans1932 I'm not really sure, I pulled the 4 hole spacer and put an aluminum square bore spacer and it helped. It's a new carburetor but I think it's a bad one. The accelerator pump was leaking and I fixed that with a new diaphragm. It has an acculink tps mounted on the throttle linkage side with a 24 inch lokar cable that all seem to be working. I checked the fuel pressure as I'm stepping down from an EFI fuel pump. The regulator is set at 6.5 and has a return relieving the excess fuel back to the tank. Both bowl levels are about half way and now the vacuum secondary is leaking down the plunger shaft. I think I'm just going to return the quick fuel carb and get a Holley.
