RESPECT to Leonidas as his 300 Spartans last stand at the pass and battle of Thermopylae 480 BC It was an example of what a few brave men can accomplish once they refused to submit to tyranny.

I wanted I was a spartain, lived in this time. This was the time of no coward warriors, there's no flee way, you would kill, scare, make your enemies suffer meeting your brave and punishment, you would know the practical meaning strenght and honor, be reverend for your acts, you would build a legend, die and make people who you love proud of you. Back to the reality, rewatch 300 would be great ^^.

Like the other Greek states, the Spartan army was an infantry-based army fighting in the Phalanx formation. The Spartans themselves did not introduce any significant changes or tactical innovations in hoplite warfare, but their constant drill and superb discipline made their phalanx much more cohesive and effective. The Spartans employed the phalanx in the classical style in a single line, uniformly deep in files of 8 to 12 men.

Why would it be a mismatch...those spartans were fighting to preserve their way of life, under the rule of the persians, their whole lifestyle would have changed, and these men were willing to stand their ground and sacrifice their life's in order to keep greece like it always was.

This is a true story. It was 300 vs 150,000. They lasted 3 days. THREE! That in my opinion makes navy seals look like a bunch of wimps. The spartens were a fearless bunch who beileved in life centered entirely around battle. If you didn't die in battle then you would not get to go to there versaion of heaven. You wouldn't even get a headstone to mark your grave if you didn't die. they would make there children drink a cup of wine the first week of there birth to see if it would die. If it died then the childs body would get thrown off a cliff. If the child lived it would be raised to be a sparten. Only the strongest would survive assuring that there warriors would be top notch every time. They all had training that would rival anything you can imagine today, and it started when you turned 3-5 if i remember correctly. ( not exactly sure how the movie went i have never seen it but i am asuming it is based off at least this much fact.)
@RandomGuy-km6mn8 жыл бұрын
+Kaden Lancaster 300 SPARTANS. There were about a thousand or so in total. And you only got a headstone if you died in a battle that was VICTORIOUS. Men who died in battles that lost were buried where they fell. Next time, pay attention in 6th Grade History before assuming everything you see in a movie is true.
@kadenlancaster56468 жыл бұрын
Pearson7951 Please. Go re-read my comment. I did not say it was all fact based and most of what I said was true. I did not say some of the things you have just said, but that does not mean I did not know them already. Also I have not seen the movie. I am going off what few clips I have seen on KZbin. I said I assume it is based off fact. At least loosely that is. By the way you don't start a sentence with the word "And" after a period has been placed So perhaps you should have paid more attention in fourth grade English class.

Yes mister teenager. Historians all over the world are incorrect. Spartans strength come 100% from their hand to hand skills, nothing to do with teamwork and a great strategy.

Actually a legion COULD have up to 5400 men, but in most cases around 3250, of wich over a half were conscripted ( don't even want to be there). Spartans are fighting on their homeland for their homeland, I'm giving it a 50:50 chance. BTW: Spartans don't die, they go to hel and regroup.

oh no im not disputing that they were not 'well trained men' they were possibly the best force in the while known world at the time. But all men went through the agoge as its known but the ones who survived did have normal jobs as well such as blacksmithing and farming otherwise how would the spartan population survive? and how would their economy survive? they had a professional army who were full time soldiers but every man was a militiaman so to speak, please dont base all your knowledge on

haha i have got my history facts right. the Spartans used the phalanx but Alexander did not invent it, he simply improved upon it by using 'pikes' and please do not tell me that i haven't got my facts right i've got a degree in this area of history :) so.. this is how the Greek city states fought each other for centuries. if you want i could show you loads possibly hundreds of examples of Spartans and other city states using the phalanx if you want?

actually Spartans are not strong individual, the strength of a spartan warrior is from the use of the phalanx. Xerxes actually said to the other spartan king who was a traitor if i got a spartan warrior could he kill 10 men in here? to which he replied no , so although i think the Spartans are one of the best warriors in history and i love them and i a fascinated by them they could not win a one on one hand to hand battle unfortunately :(
