300HP Edge X2 Buggy Build | Pt5 Finishing and fully welding the cage

Welcome to the X2 build series. Throughout this series I’ll be building The Edge Products X2 two seater buggy. It’ll be powered by a turbo 3 cylinder Yamaha Nytro snowmobile engine. I built one of these chassis about 8 years ago cost me about £300 to build it go fed up with it and scraped it got £40 for it shud have finished it

Awesome vid!! nice work!! have discovered the Edge X2R myself and want to build a but not sure, but now it is obvious that i should! Are the drawings good? plasmacut you the parts yourself?

Drawings are awesome. Only downfall is they are metric and makes it a bit confusing working with metric plans meant for metric size tubing here in the US with imperial sized tubing. None of our sizes available are exactly what the plans calc for. I actually got a metric tape measure to help make it easier. Yes I plasma cut the parts myself, there is a video up on my page showing it.

Just a quick question. On your cv2 to the chassis, did you raise the gearbox to accommodate the aluminum bash plate to sit flush to the chassis floor?

Yes I did. I raised it about 5mm

The build looks great. I saw the sizes that you used for the build, what gauge tubing did you use and did you use any DOM tubing. Also now that you have the frame welded, is there any tubing you wish you would have used a different size or gauge tubing. I have the plans but since you have almost completed yours, I wanted to ask your opinion. Thank you.

Hey there. Most of it is just ERW. Some is DOM because it was available. 1.75” 0.95 wall for thick roll bar and front nose. 1.5” 0.65 wall DOM for the rest of the round tubing. I wouldn’t change those as it is very strong. The the square tubing on the base I used 0.65 wall for most of it and some 0.95 under the engine. If I did that again I’d use all 0.95 as it is a small weight trade off for must stronger tubing. Thanks, good luck!

@@BWBGarage thanks for responding. Do you know when you will have any new videos on it? Also, is the snowmobile engine you are going to use have a CVT drive to chain or just chain drive. I’m hoping to start on mine in the next month or so as a winter project.

Sad to seed u don’t have any more videos on the x2 build :/ Anyway, I’m doing research here trying to find the supplies and checking out costs and so on to complete the same build. I’m using metric system here but if u want u can use the imperial system and I’ll convert. Do you know by any chance the length of each steel measure u used so far avg? Also, u mentioned here the wall of the square tubing but u didn’t say the width do u know it? I still haven’t bought the plans yet, I was doing more research to make sure first I can execute it before starting to spend some money. Thanks!

@@BWBGarage Sry I wanted to ask also, the type of steel u used, carbon? Galvanised? Laminated? Any thoughts on any of those? Tbh I’ve welded before but smaller things nothing that I had to take into consideration strength or robustness so I’m not fully sure on these specifics yet :) it’s part of the research eheheh Thanks!

i started to build the barracuda. but got stuck at the hubs, front and rear. they are really expensive to build. i guess i will design my own based one standard auto hubs. also, the suspension is reeeeeallly expensive, so i will modify that also
