Brilliant Dan. The first time I flew away from Wingland, I turned back and thought ‘where the hell did it go?’ I had my trusty Flymaster GPS on so not a panic, just, everything looked the same. The next time I went up, I made a point of getting some visual reference. I realised, as you did, that Wingland is roughly between the water tower and the wind farm. How funny.
@DanielJonesParamotor4 жыл бұрын
Lincoln being flat does not help finding a small field in the middle of it 😂 I always think the field to the right of wingland (If you're coming out of the hut) looks like a slice of bread, which also helps haha.

Hey thanks! I'm excited, most of my flights so far have kept me within glide to my LZ...I hope to do something similar, maybe 20-30km triangle, keeping multiple outs along the way. First I must plan! 😎

Getting lost is easy if you have no big landmarks... We have plenty up here in the NW. If your after suggestions, the best Vids are adventure camping vids... Tuckers best vids are his Icarus set... not sure he will ever top those. Its risky landing in a remote spot (if you can find any down there) it adds some jeopardy in getting off the following day :) Pore over google maps, argue with your brother on a good spot, pack a few shots of whisky to help you sleep and take the edge off the crappy taste of your pot-noodle and you are off :)
@DanielJonesParamotor4 жыл бұрын
pimplequeen2 Really enjoyed watching Tucker’s Icarus videos. A great showcase of how you can travel huge distances unsupported on paramotors. Got a friend talking about a paracamping trip this year which will be a nice warm up to hauling my ass down the length of the UK. Need to get my brother flying first, think he was nearly ready to pull the trigger on a motor pre-lockdown so hopefully it won’t be long until he’s flying!

@@DanielJonesParamotor Ah, I thought your brother was pretty much done... he needs to get his skates on!

If you do use a map, put it in a walking map pocket, then you can tie it down and used both sides. Navigation by map only is so much fun, don't loose the skill. I have a camping bivvi set up, give me a shout, would be great to join you.
@DanielJonesParamotor4 жыл бұрын
Golf Foxtrot 22 I didn’t realise how rewarding it would be, I’ll definitely be setting myself some map based tasks in future videos. I need to look into bivvis for a paracamping setup 😁

Watching these while I patiently wait to get my own training sorted. Personally I love these kind of longer videos - but they must take you quite some effort editing. I'm was watching Paranoobs Icarus videos before I found this one. Will you be planning on doing the Icarus challenge???
@DanielJonesParamotor4 жыл бұрын
If I recall this took about 40 hours worth of editing to get just right with all the graphics & sound effects. I certainly don't take that long on most of the others but some require that little extra. I really hope to do the Icarus at some point but it's whether The Adventurists will be holding the event again.

Nice flying- I haven’t used paper since passing my PPL. Using Foreflight on an iPad has definitely diminished my pilotage skill.

Daniel Jones I still get lost with Foreflight! Lol. All jokes aside, I think using paper and pencil is a good thing: ya never know when the electronics won’t function).

@@pilot-plane-coffee1678 That's true! I've had my phone keel over several times when it hasn't liked the cold air rushing over it 😬

Daniel Jones I know what you mean, I had my iPad Air2 charged 100 pct and if it gets too hot or too cold, it will shut off! Could you imagine if your in nomans land (maybe flying in canyons) and it shits off...dangerous. I also have backup nav on my iPhone and garmin.

No photo, didn't happen. Too many people's cameras die before the end 🤣 Seriously though, congrats. Flying away from base with "just a map" can be nerve wracking. I'm old enough to remember that being the only way to do XCs and being high up trying to match what I could see below with what the map wasn't showing me. 😀
@DanielJonesParamotor4 жыл бұрын
I know right! I’ve got a 9000 mAh power bank hooked up now so there’s no way I’m running out of juice 😂 thank you, it really was a rewarding way to fly, I’ll definitely be setting a few challenges for myself in the future. So do you ever fly with just a map for old times sake?
@chrsfrwll4 жыл бұрын
Daniel Jones definitely not, lol, I don’t want the hassle. My longest flight with just a map was 5 hours in a hang gliding competition in Spain. I use an Oudie 5 now. So much easier. However navigation by map is a skill worth having, so good on you for what you did.
@DanielJonesParamotor4 жыл бұрын
chrsfrwll haha fair enough! I’ve heard good things about the Oudies, may have to have a further look into them.
