Thanks for the 30 meter QSO at 42:57! Keep up the good work, I appreciate the effort it takes to go out and set up portable like you do.

Thank you for the many contacts! It wouldn’t be any fun to operate in the field without the hunters. 73!

Aaron, thanks for sharing this video and adding new items to my wish list. I have never tried to activate on 30 meters, but now it is at the top of my list. You handled the pile-ups very well. Thanks for the video. I hope to catch you on the air one day. 73s de W3CT

Glad to help :) 30m is a fun band. It always seems to be open to somewhere any time of day.

By coiling your excess of coax in a very tight coil as you've on the table - you change the impedance of the system and OVER choke your RF output which will influence SWR and performances. Spread evenly around the table.

Hi Chameleon! THANK YOU for making awesome whips!! Actually the coiled coax was intentional. This run of coax doesn’t have an integrated choke. I tried it unrolled and stretched out on the ground (not in the video, I cut that part out because it was long) and the SWR was higher, and gave RF burn through my key. Thanks for the thought though!

Glad you like my call sign (NN2X). It's not a vanity call; that's just how the FCC assigned them back in the '80s when I got my Extra license. Interestingly, I didn't use Morse code until three years ago, and now it's all I use. Hearing you on the bands is always a treat, and your uploaded videos have been a huge help for hams like me relearning CW. I had completely lost my code since 1980, so the saying about never forgetting how to ride a bike? That didn't apply to my code skills! Having a blast though. Catch you again on the bands, Aaron! Always good to hear you Tom! That’s really cool. You got a great call assignment, has a nice distinctive ring to it in CW.

I’ve never used a true vertical at my location. Noise here is a major problem. I find using a 4 square array to be pretty nice but very expensive for me to consider. One day I’ll move out of this city

That’s one of the best parts about doing POTA, the parks are usually RF quiet :) a 4 square array would be a lot of fun though

Hi Aaron, what coax are you using? I didn’t see it listed, just curious? Thank you.

It’s 20 feet of ABR Industries ABR240 with a red sheath and BNC connectors. I had it custom made by ABR, using this builder: abrind.com/shop/cable-builder/amateur-radio-coax-builder-color-sheaths/

Do you work many AZ stations? I would love to work you but never hear you in North-Central AZ. I’ll keep checking.

I do hear AZ stations from time to time, but with how early I activate, I hear more eastern time zone stations than anything else. Hope to hear you soon! 73
