I'm proud to be able to have witnessed the greatness of this man. An incredible skateboarder on all aspects. Flawless style and an incredibly humble individual. I challenge all of you who've seen Rodney's stuff, to pass it on to the next generation. He is a hero, innovator, creater, artist and so much more. And I feel we should carry out his name !

If this legend wasn´t on planet , then skating wouldn´t be that what it is nowadays :) thx for your work old rodney, you inspired alot of people :)

the guy that made skating into a form of expression that showed others that there were more than one way to do 1 trick. or more than 1 way to skate 1 spot or 1 curb or 1 ledge. Ingenuity at its best a true pioneer. Though gonz is teh guy that u want to see kick flipping or boardsliding in all honesty rodney brought upon the popsicle deck fame between him and daewon between blind videos and world the early 90s grew so fast off their skating its mindblowing

If Rodney had not invented the Tricks that Natas and Gonz were capable of to Transfer them to the Street, there would be no Streetskating Flip Tricks that they could have used and what is more important? The cause or the effect?

To those who say Rodney is not the godfather of street skateboarding, WRONG! all the tricks that he invented during his free style years that were useful in the street which is almost all of them, opened the Door for people Like Natas Kaupas and Mark Gonzales to go try new things, yes Natas And Mark were the first to take stuff RODNEY invented and apply it to the street, and to that dude who said he didnt start street skating well into the 90's...Rodney Was doing Switch 360 flip nose slides in 90 or 91 on curbs, casper slides in 92 and switch frontside flips in 92, thats alot to be doing pretty early on in the 90's. what a lot of people Don't know is that Rodney was the first person to do a whole bunch of stuff switch first, kick flips, heel flips, 360 flips, back side flips, that's what made Guy Mariano want to do them off stairs. hence Mariano being the first person to switch 360 flip a set of stairs. although another guy on World Industries at that time claimed he did it first but didnt get it on film till after Guy did. For those who to see an unknown soldier that invented a lot of things too, look up Dan Gallagher.

I'm sorry, Rodney is not the godfather of streetskating. Gonz, Natas, incorporated all styles of skating...incluuding freestyle- into streetskating.

see any flip trick son streets on fire.......thought so.....just bc it isnt flip tricks doesnt mean it isnt street skating.....smh go and watch natas streets on fire part and take in the steeze and what it means to have style kids should take notes on that part and learn to have actual good aesthetic to their skating as a whole before trying to incorpoirate switch 360 flips inbetween lines and etc...smh going 0 mph is trash in this era its one thing for pioneer but its another....its like "street skater kids" that cant even skate 1/2 a park why...bc they never learned to ride...some of the best skaters hardily rode switch cardiel, muska, fowler....smh acting like it can be measured or dignified in any way other than an artform and simply taken as sutch...

It all starts with the Ollie. There would be no Gonz or Natas without it. Gonz rode vert in the 80s before "street skating". Natas very 1st claim to fame was that he could OLLIE a big board. Lance Mountian, Neil Blender, John Lucero etc had "street contests" in the late 70s with jumpramps & curbs. This modern era started when Tommy G, Natas, Gonz etc started to ollie things in the actual streets, mid-late 80s. But it all starts with the Ollie, invented by the Godfather, Rodney Mullen.
@DanielSmith-br1zi4 жыл бұрын
Totally historically inaccurate . allen Ollie gelfand invented the Ollie, although its debatable as skate history is littered with different people doing the same thing at the same time in different places. Rodbey mullen. Great skater, freestyler. But not nearly as worth of praise and worship as hes given.

not really. Although he invented alot of the tricks used in street skating, it was gonz and natas and a few others who were the pioneers of modern street skating. Rodney didn't even start skating street until well into the nineties.

Yeah I was there. I know how it happened. Your timeline is a bit off. Be careful where you get your history from. Like I said Rodney invented the tricks but he is not the godfather of street skating. Godfather of the flatground Ollie maybe.
