I will always remember the first time I heard this band, on a Walkman cassette player during science class in the 5th grade, me and my friend Steven taking turns with his headphones and trying not to let the teacher see us. It was the Blue album. That year for Christmas, I got my first boom box with a cassette and CD player built in.. Shortly after, I asked my parents to take me to the local music and video store, where I went to the cd section and started looking for something to buy, and there it was... a used copy of the Blue album on CD in all it's glory. I took it home, popped it in the boom box, and listened to it on repeat for days, reading the cd booklet and learning lyrics. I could go on and on about 311 because they have been the number one band in my life since those younger days. Their albums have paralleled my life, and I can remember where I was in life when I listen to any of their songs. 311 isn't just a band, it's a part of who many of us are as people.

I don't know if you're my age (born in 86), but your story is spot on with mine. I remember asking for a CD player boombox for xmas - just so I could buyt the 311 blue album. I memorized every 311 song in the album, and played at least one 311 song for each high school talent show I was in. The only band I've paid to see live is 311. As a young man I was infatuated with their sound - but as an adult I finally understand the message. Unity.

I was 22 when this album came out. What a great time the 90s were. The high-water mark for humanity in my opinion. I could go back and live in that decade forever. Maybe that’s what everyone says about their 20s when they hit middle age though?
@JamoonXerxesSauber10 ай бұрын
It does seem to be a common theme. My parents say that about the 80s. My grandparents, the late 60s. However for me, even though my formative years were the noughties, and my very😮 young childhood was 90s...I absolutely wish I could live forever in the 90s. Even now that's the music I listen to the most. Before 9/11, before every movie had to have a really obvious message, people weren't as obsessed with their image, before ADD inducing social media. Gaming and SFX were still in their infancy. Ofc it wasnt perfect but it was a way more authentic period.

One thing about the 90s -- you can never say there was no variety of musical styles in popular music. Today's top 40 is basically all hiphop and hiphop-based RnB, including the pop singers. You may see one or two singer songwriters but it's 99% crap.

I’ll never forget! St. Louis 99? I think? Anywho I wasn’t lucky to have had tickets but I had the Best experience. You guys were performing right across the street we were staying at and Mr. Peanut I guess was checking you guys into the same hotel. I literally stood there like a deer in headlights and told my now husband oh my god that’s Peanut 😂🤣🤦🏼♀️ Legends!!!❤❤❤❤

I'm not gonna lie. For the longest time, I thought 311 were shouting out the poet E.E. Cummings. I finally looked up the lyrics and realized they were saying "You keep me coming." ;).
