@cleech747 ай бұрын
I saw them back in 1993, at a show I attended with my college bandmates. I think it was one of the first things we did together socially, that wasn’t us performing at a show. It was at the 8x10 Club, in Baltimore. Our bassist saw them the previous night in DC, @ The 9:30 Club. I remember him saying we got a better show in Baltimore, since the smaller club gave it a more intimate feel to their performance. They really started blowing up shortly afterwards, so we were lucky to catch them in a venue that held about 150-200 people. Good times, from that time in my life.

I've been a touring musician before. I know how mind-numbing it can be to play the same music over and over. These guys have been doing these songs for decades. You don't do that unless you really, REALLY love your fans. They've already made their millions. They've already got their fame. They have nothing to prove anymore. The thing that I love about this band is how they all actually seem like a group of dudes who have accepted their age and allowed themselves to mature. Nick Hexum, for example, loves to post about all the time he spends with his daughters. It's made me come back to them after so many years.

In late 2009 our first son was born and as my wife lay asleep in the hospital bed after ten hours of labor, they wheeled our new son in and he began to cry. As a new father not knowing what to do, I used my iPhone to play 311 Amber very softly in his crib as I struggled to change his diaper. I am 100% certain that moment set the tone for his life. He's chill, impossibly cool, creative, easy going, and everything you'd expect a kid to be who's first song ever was Amber. Fun update: When he was maybe 8 or 9, we were riding in the car and this song came on. He instantly connected with it and said "Dad, I really like this song" as if he'd heard it before. Thank you 311, it's a part of his DNA~
