This is a must-listen episode: Chase Hughes is a leading behaviour expert and creates psychological research and techniques for intelligence agencies for operations ranging from interrogation to behaviour profiling.
He is the bestselling author of The Ellipsis Manual and The Six-Minute X-Ray. After a 20-year career in the US Military, Chase develops and teaches courses in interrogation, negotiation, influence, persuasion and 'extreme people-reading' around the world.
The content for this podcast was originally recorded in 2019, soon after Chase retired from the military, and I have re-edited it for the Podiatry Legends Podcast.
In this episode, we discuss:
How he became interested in reading body language. Everybody wears some form of social mask Human Needs (such as feeling powerful, significant and accepted) Pretending not to be insecure Fears, personal weaknesses and insecurities It's good to look behind the mask without judging. As soon as you judge, you've lost. Selling to the human, not the mask Clubs, gangs, t-shirts, colleague rings, etc., are all part of needing acceptance. In social tribes, if we didn't fit in, we died or were outcasts Three primary and three secondary masks wear Significant - I make a difference Approval - I need permission Acceptance - I belong The most fearful BARK the most. Anger: Is a secret desire to change something that we know is changeable How to Spot a Narcissist Monitoring Blink Rates Secret weapons in business If you have any questions about this episode, contact me at tyson@podiatrylegends.com or connect with Chase Hughes via his website, chasehughes.com.

Around 32-33 minutes (the discussion of recognizing narcissists) there was a question posed whether it was weird to introduce a friend mentioning their high school or college claim to fame somewhat. I would posit this is good etiquette practices, particularly, as it was stated this friend in question had gone to a private school. Old fashioned etiquette standards would state when introducing someone you state their name along with an interesting fact

I found it odd, but I understand your point of view.

Thank you for making me feel normal. I was double checking my narcism level when Chase was talking about this because I do this naturally… When introducing I will give an interesting fact, or I might tell them of a person/place they both have in common but they don’t know it, or maybe a hobby/interest I know they are both into, or, if I’m going out on a limb, I may mention a notable thing one of them has accomplished…I rarely see others doing this and because I have heard I could be doing this because I’m a major narcissist, like Chase said, I will try to check myself…but, nope I still do this 😁…I like to think I’m helping people to connect, or it’s because I want to celebrate others accolades, not because it would make me look good but because it’s so hard to be human in the first place. 🎉🎉🎉

@@beanyboomer5391 you are good here. It was literally taught as proper etiquette and how to be a good host. A host usually would introduce people in a group to the rest of the group mention something along with their name, as you said, that gives them a talking point…I don’t know how it could be read as narcissistic and I have known some I assure you. Now if it was all about them instead of the person, it would be different.

@@miblitz The thought is I have no accomplishments of my own so I “brag” about another’s so I can feel better about myself. Thing is, I feel great just being me! I have no need to take some else’s thunder. I am genuinely happy for others. And yes, I would introduce Chase as a best seller!!!. After all, he is an expert in his field, and he has so much experience and information to share. I know I would be excited to met an expert like him so I assume others would be too. (My husband says I sometimes “interrogate” people in my excitement of getting to know them 😗😗. I think where people went to high school, what their parents did for a living, and what their Ascending, Sun and Moon sign is fascinating. )

@@beanyboomer5391 I agree I’m the most curious person I know. Favorite color where you grew up favorite subject in school were you close with your older sister oh you like mysteries have you ever read X? I would introduce someone based on who I am introducing them to more than what I personally find most interesting.
