The subtle hints of him projecting questions, asking him how he has been, so that maybe he can be asked how he is doing. But also giving his belongings to him before he left, really makes it more emotional and true. Great message to everyone about mental health.

yeah I only noticed that the second time watching it and it's genuinely startling how obvious those things seem in hindsight, whilst being so easy to miss at the same time. a beautiful representation of how differently depression can present, and how that whole "it's never the ones you'd expect" thing has some truth to it

The first time you watch it, the ending blindsides you. If you watch it a second time, you see all the hints; him constantly asking how life has been for his buddy to ask the same, him stating "well, I hope things are better outside of the football," and him finally leaving behind his prized possessions with his friend. Powerful storytelling.

Adding on to this I feel the video conveys that his friend was unaware of his other friend’s personal life and never really made an effort to check, not because he didn’t care but more so because he never understood the context behind his other friend’s gestures or actions. Also at the end of the last game they watch when the guy on the right says “wow that was worth it” he probably already made up his mind to commit suicide but decided to wait to see if Norwich would win more game before he did the deed.Norwich winning gave him the peace of mind to go through with what he did(also giving his friend the scarf)

My brother committed suicide 3 months ago I found him and I never saw it coming. We are American football fans and for the first time in 25 years I went to the home opener without him. All the fans around us noticed that he was not there as my grandpa has had those seats for almost 60 years. We laid down my brothers Steelers jersey and everybody knew. They all gave their apologies.

I am one of the funny, always positive guys. I was diagnosed with depression and am struggling with it. Not even my wife noticed until I opened up. There are people who care and will help you. As with real life, it's the second watch that hits hardest...when you realise there were signs there...the fact he was trying to communicate...and then the way he gave away his scarf...the "Nah, you keep it mate" and the shoulder hug was his way of saying goodbye, followed up with the "That was worth it", like he was hanging on for one good game, like it was his "Shampoo and Conditioner" moment. So moving and powerful! Everyone needs to see this! Thank you Norwich FC for producing this! Especially with men in the UK, we are so still instilled with the "Stiff upper lip", "grin and bear it", "man up" and "grow a pair" attitudes, that we don't talk to someone until it's too late. Talk to people...make sure they are doing ok...it can make all the difference, even when they seem ok 😢

Hey brother, I can sympathize with your post. For the longest time, I did what I could to make sure the people around me had a listening ear or a reason to smile. I was the one people came to for advice or a smile. Inside, sometimes I felt great, mostly I felt like a joy imposter because that’s not how I felt. I keep asking myself what’s the point of having to buy a house, take a job I don’t like because of needing money and on and on. What I’ve come to realize is what I keep asking myself is, what’s the point of me? Like you, I maintain by looking to future possibilities - hope. Intellectual reasons like, people around you love you, you matter to your community (I’ve done a lot of community organizing over the years), you’ll hurt the people around you if you go, etc. are good but it’s how I FEEL that’s the issue. I’m a smart guy and know these things but being smart doesn’t “fix” my feelings. I’ve started opening up to some people who are close to me about some of my “darker” feelings. It’s so not easy but it’s something I am doing, using resources outside of myself, because I’m hopeful I’ll start feeling I have a point to myself. Big virtual hugs. B

I was 17 years of age when my father lost his battle.. We were both kopites, as he passed his passion down to me from a early age.. Not a day goes by without me missing him, especially singing YNWA with him at kickoff on gameday.. The one thing he always wore all the way until the end was his smile and his empathy.. I had my suspicions, and tried to show all the love I could for him in the end, hoping I could heal whatever he wasn’t telling me about.. But his wounds weren’t mine to heal, and he lost his fight. This really hits home, as my dad always sang the loudest and roared the highest at our last match together. It’s always the brightest stars that hides the biggest shadows. To everyone sitting alone with their dark thoughts.. I love you, and so do so many others.. Please reach out, and I can ensure no matter our intrests, differences.. I've talked to many who identify with what I term '"perfectly hidden depression" and this football club has depicted it so tragically and so well. Or I've talked with their widows, grieving parents, or shocked and confused friends. And I teach this to mental health clinicians: the question shouldn't only be, "Do you feel suicidal?" but, "If you were hopeless, if you were thinking about killing yourself, would you tell anyone?" The answer would be "no." And that answer offers a tiny but important clue. Thanks so much to Norwich.

This video gave me goosebumps and cry. Almost a year ago to the day I was this man, happy on the outside and depressed inside, I was found in bed in tears just not knowing how to explain how I felt or even why I felt it, but everything felt hollow. This video is so important and so is the talk around it. If you’re struggling, please try and talk to someone, anyone. It will be hard, you will struggle to find the words and you’ll probably even try to convince yourself that what you’re saying/feeling is wrong, but it’s okay. People who love you, will still love you even when you’re struggling. One year later and I’m in such a better place, I’m even able to help people who have depression because I now understand so much more about it. It’s a battle but one that is so worth coming out the other side, so good luck to you, you can do it.

As a lifelong sufferer - don't be so sure that by opening up things get better, you quickly find out who's got your back, which is often very very few, and who doesn't which may come often as a shock. Those who don't understand depression will sound like ppl from the middle ages - all kinds of notions and silly ideas about you start to emerge. Best of luck.

This happens more often than we think. People who actually commit suicide often go unnoticed until it happens because they can mask it so well in an outwardly positive persona. The man was crying out for help but in subtle ways; he just wanted his friend to ask how he was. His life was not better than the football game. He held out for one last victory before giving him the scarf. The signs were there, we just need to be proactive in checking in on everyone. Even the people who seem to have no problems, have problems. Great message ❤

This really hits home. Just over 10 years ago, my best friend took his life, we did not see any signs at all as he was always happy and cheerful.. One evening we was supposed to meet for drinks and have a lads night out and he never showed. Shortly after his mother called me and said that he had taken his own life.. It still breaks me to this day, please check on your friends. It may just save their life.

Everytime I see this it gets more sad. I'm the guy on the right, most happy one in the room the most optimistic guy you'd ever meet and I'm very energetic too. But I often wonder if I'm the saddest person in the room. I've been broken 💔 so many times and most recently was diagnosed with a cancer of the blood. I've never wanted to harm myself yet I'm not afraid of death either. I'm dying inside yet living outside...😢 I wish the best for you all, stay optimistic that's at least how I hold it together

i'd say if you can afford it, take time off your job or quit entirely and spend some of your money. Go on vacation, start doing your bucket list. Don't spend all of it, keep enough for the treatment and a more frugal retirement, but focus on enjoying yourself and filling out your bucket list, you never know how bad the disease might be at this point i really hope you caught it early...

Something that i'm not sure people spotted is the change in jersey from the usual yellow one to the purple one. If i'm not wrong, that one is the 'sudden change in appearance' symptom. This video is incredible in the way it showcases all the signs a person is struggling. A sudden change in appearance and giving away possessions are well documented signs. I'm not really a football guy, but to the people who made this possible, hats off.

One of the best shorts (and look, I've said shorts, not ads) I've ever watched. That's what I do for a living, writing commercials and videos and contents, and sometimes I struggle thinking about how much I do not care about what I do, and how little is the impact of the things that I do and write. Then, once every couple of years, I stumble in things like this, and I remember why I've started back then. Using these tools to do something with a huge impact like this, something that actually matters, is the very sense of copywriting. I hope one day I'll be proudly signing something this beautiful. Great job for a very sensitive yet fundamental theme.

Years ago I worked for an insurance company in the city (not Aviva), I was in my late 20's and worked with a guy called Kev, he was a bit younger than me. He was well into his music, he had DJ'd up north and had built up a small following here too. Bad stuff happened in Kev's life but he always went out of his way to talk to people and put others first. Kev ended up in a bad situation and took his own life. He walked out of work one day, but before he did, he turned to me, gave half a smile and waved. I waved back... A few days later we found out he'd passed away. He only worked with us for about 3 months and I didn't know him outside of work beyond his music and some of his unfortunatel issues he'd mentioned.. I think about him sometimes, even now, 15 years later. I hope he found his piece.

Hey guys I have an idea: since a lot of us are struggling with depression and hard times, why don't we all share a thing that makes us happy? It can be a song, a book, a movie, a comedian, anything. It may be useless but it can cheer us up while we tell it, and maybe we can share something beautiful to other people. I'll go first: for me it's listening to some classic FIFA bangers, like Love Natural by Christal Fighters or J*rk it out by Caesars . Now your turn, let's do this 💪👇
