It is great to see a Canadian company doing so well in the USA market with their commercial splitters. It makes my heart proud. That big round for firewood certainly gave the 2 of you a work out. That is one case where that extra tall 4 way wedge would have been useful. One tip I've used on splitting monster rounds with a maul, is to use the maul as a wedge with a handle. Tap it with a dead blow hammer and it will split the pieces with far less effort than swinging it.

Looks like a stihl started the cut got stuck, ‘varna tried to rescue it, but a Dolmar came in and saved both and cut the block off. Man all that iron and still need to resort to a maul🤦‍♂️ I’ve seen this before. Whole reason I have a single 23” vertical wedge that does not reduce in height when 4way moves and 4way can move completely out of the way for halving. Also a catch table that is twice the size of this helps too. Nothing pisses me off more than picking up resplits off ground! Nice vid Chris!

The 12 22 is an awesome splitter. We have 1 and have put through around 2000 face cord. It works great. Andrew brought me the 37D to try. Oh my God it is a beast. We put through 50 face cord on 4 gallon of diesel. 60 cord in 6.8 hrs. It will play you out

Thanks for the video! That splitter is a beast! She'd keep a couple of good workers and several kids busy feeding it. I can see what you're saying, that the person(s) feeding it are the limiting factor! It certainly has the power. A couple of times we saw it cut through cross-grain wood with no problems.

Hi Chris - it's Big Rodders in Ireland. All your subscribers who thought they were your new best friend will feel dejected, rejected and abandoned. The 12-22 is a fine performer, but so it should at two and a half times the price of the Ultra. The serious weight would be a big handicap to your operation. You don't need a log lift as with your new tractor you could easily organise a table like your brother and "fricknjeep" at minimal cost. All your need to upgrade your Ultra is to get Andrew to supply you with a custom made large push plate. I wonder if Irene feels rejected also!

I always buy the best equipment I can find. I've had my 12-22 for a year. When it comes to loving that Eastonmade, I second that emotion! I've also had a Super Split for 40 years and I run four Husqvarna saws. Shalom /gw P.S. I bought a "Tall Boy" 4-way wedge two months ago. Fantastic!

When I'm ringing up big logs like that I rip them down just past half way with the saw, they normally then fall in half with a couple of whacks with the maul. Trouble is that half rings don"t roll up to the lifter very well so split them as close to splitter as possible.

Hay fellas Need to get a flow valve for the pressure side of the log lift. It allows pressure but cuts down flow so it will run slower.

That is the exact splitter I'm saving up for, just like Tony said, he wanted a something heavy duty that will last a lifetime and I'm certain with the amount I split per year that I'll be in the same camp as him, plus just like him, it seems like the majority of my wood rounds are above 24" making a lift a life saver.

Good vid, yours is the only one I have ever seen even address the greasing as you did in the beginning. That design surprises me. They should have gone UHMW if friction was a concern. For me, that is a huge turnoff to get any amount of grease on split wood that is then handled by hand and into the house. Also can see it collecting wood chips and dust as a result too.

The grease never really gets to the wood, there is not much under the push plate.

Simple fix. Raise the wedge, place a split piece under it and then lower the wedge and the split will push the round off the wedge.

IMHO: EM is a great product, just cant get behind $500 non refundable deposit and a full year and a half wait for an Ultra. As far as the log lift for a working deck, I made a short leg table with a plastic pallet (the wood slides great on it) and load the ones I don't want to lift with the tractor. Just makes a great loading deck/resplit table. Add a pickaroon to drag the wood to you while your operating on the other side of the splitter and it's a potent/cheap/mobile tool to add to the arsenal. Great vid, thanks for posting

I have often wondered if a person was to hook up 1000-1500 gal storage to these boilers if it would help increase combustion efficiency in turn capturing more btus.

@@garny3766 funny you ask that’s exactly what the customer did 250 gallon holding tank. Definitely increases the efficiency however I’d be lying if I said the tarring isn’t an issue. It’s still has the glazing.

@@gboz4245 glad to hear someone did this. This is the whole principle of the Garn and European boilers with the highly recommended storage. The best way to burn chunk wood is wide open and collect the heat as best as one can. I’ve done much research and experimenting over the years and the Garn is what I modeled mine after. No circuit boards, no servos, no aquastats, no specially cast refractory. Just a mechanical 0-6 hr timer and 120vac 3/4hp 3450 electric motor draft inducer.

I sure like that adjustable wedge. As for your maul, I would have used a wedge and a sledge. Easier on the body. You're exhausted from swinging that thing. I use a maul and a wedge and sledge for my splitting. If the maul doesn't crack the log on the first or second swing, I get the wedge and sledge. Much easier on the body.

The big dog 22-28 and the 37D are mind blowing with how fast they are for being almost 40 ton. Being a single man operation and my wood supply being all the logging rejects and tree service logs I’m leaning toward those two options. It’s just hard to decide with almost 6,000 separating the two. That is with the 4,6, and 8 or 12. I want to go with the 4,6,12 to cover all the bases for log diameters. Hopefully my big tree service guy gets his log truck fixed so I can get big stuff dropped off. As always good vids.

The 12-22 is a beast of machine.. the only down fall is physically changing blades between cuts.. no fault of the splitter... just need to separate your logs before bucking up then you can put the right blade in and giver ..

I feel your pain popping that big round with the maul. That and the other fiskars splitting axe is what I use but I very rarely handle large rounds. Your right about noodling or splitting those big rounds first even with a lift.

At 20:40 i cringed because I thought the black on the end of the wood was your friends glove and that he got his fingers cut off. Needless to say I was very relieved.

A little bit of chainsaw work on a big round! Would make a big beautiful bonfire log chimney type! Just my thoughts. Help pay for the splitter and upkeep on things.
