I was out walking the dogs when these storms developed about 17:30 overhead in my home town in Leicestershire, I saw a few CG lightning strikes before the storms raced northwards towards Leicester. we only had a couple spots of rain, nothing compared across Derbyshire. temperature did reached 34c on Friday. Guessing all that energy transferred to a rainstorm across Derbyshire, as the storm core began to collapse.

Thanks for the positive comments 🙂. Yes, more heat looks likely again towards the end of this week/weekend. Whether that will translate to more storms is unclear, but could be some late Saturday into Sunday. You can bet I will be out again if there are any.

Yes, it would be good for those in the south that want storms to see some. Its been mostly northern England and the Midlands this year (which I am not complaining about of course), but I am all for everyone getting a piece of the action.

What are 'Elevated' thunderstorms?

It is where the thunderstorm begins forming above a stable surface layer. Therefore the bases of these thunderstorms are higher than say a set up like we had last week (surface based thunderstorms). A dry, stable airmass at the surface, an injection of warmer, moist air above this, and this air will rise until it cools to the temperature of the surrounding air.
