If you dont burn soft wood u have no heat, maybe parts of the USA that has the dence hardwoods can choose but when you live where nothing but soft wood grows you burn what you have. Soft wood only creates problems when not properly seasoned. Soft wood creates less ash then hardwood, bark is most of where you ash comes from and hard wood has thick bark, soft wood ash is so fine alot of it goes up your chimney without knowing..

@@off_grid_life yes I realized that last time I cleaned my chimney, I reached up and felt inside the elbow that leads into my trailer, and it was half full of black ashes, I throw some of the bark in when I try to keep the wet stuff burning and didn't realize that it was building up in the elbow.

@bleepersoffgrid that bark is nothing compared to what is found on alot of hardwoods like Maple, hard wood creates way more ash then any soft wood. Each have their pros and cons.

The forest surrounding my homestead is full of standing dead maple. Burns really clean and hot. Only problem is I don't have a wood stove yet 😂

@@MaritimeUnprepared that is a problem, maple is nice. So many fokes hate on soft wood but it burns realy hot, maybe faster burn cycle but it also gets a stove hot fast. So many say don't burn this or don't burn that, but when its your only option you eather burn or u freeze, even white poplar burns really nice when dry which by most southerners stand point is garbage wood but it burns hot and longer then fir/spruce and makes a nice coal bed.

@@off_grid_life There's lots of poplar here, but people don't like to buy it for firewood. The maple is around 10 years dead due to a fire, so most of the bark has fallen off. There's also lots of white birch🇨🇦✌️
