These are tactics which comes when you do lot of CP. Your expectation is wrong here because you do leetcode questions you have never come across questions like this so obviously its new thing for you and you will take time to learn this. Before learning we should not set high expectation like we going to understand it in one go. You have to watch multiple times to understand & also solve lot of similar questions to truly grasp the concept. He explained this question nicely.
