@user-vq8yk1wc1u hi there! I hear ya, we are starting in KL.... not sure after that? We might stay and do some day trips from there? Borneo is on the list, but I don't think we'll get there this time unfortunately. If you have any recommendations for day trips from KL let me know! 👍

I have been in SE Asia for 35 years and including 5 years in Sarawak. I really enjoyed it there and pqlced like Miri and Kuching are nice ..but quiet. A great apartment can be had for USD700 per month. I would recommend at least a 2 bedroom plus 60sqm apartment.. the smaller dog boxes drive you crazy. Sarawak had an interesting culture of Chinese, Malay and local Dayak. The language easier to learn than Thai as well

Great Video. I am contemplating where to rent for a year in a few months. I stayed opposite the Arcadia in City Garden Tower last year. Their rooms are pretty similar to Olympus, but not with that weird TV setup. I never knew Olympus had that and I will sadly have to drop it as an option. Arcadia has a Isaan night club on the left side of it as you face the building. Before staying there I would advice to check the noise pollution at night. BTW, same goes for pool side of City Garden Tower. This basically goes for anywhere you rent in Thailand. Understand that noisy pollution is real there. The strict noise restriction laws we have in western countries are not policed in Thailand (well certainly not Pattaya) and we are talking live music, heavy base and drum sounds till the early morning. You view the apartment during the day, you sign your contract and you give your deposit during the day...sooner or later you will spend your first night, don't let that be an unpleasant surprise.
@wattstraveling8 ай бұрын
That is SO TRUE! renting for a year is a great way to find the right spot! Noise pollution is REAL here! Thank you for mentioning that and thanks for watching! 😁

Thanks for the clips, they are really well put together, informative and really well narrated. Think i will pick Thailand for my retirement location for as well as all the obvious things. The health care system seems really well put together. You only have to see how much medical tourism there is. Lets face it, not many of us blow out a hundred candles.

@GypsyHornetАй бұрын
I stayed there, and it's not a great place at all. The air conditioning was as noisy as a jet engine, and the temperature control didn't work. The view was great, but you soon get over that. When having a shower, if I turned the lights on in the shower room, they would flicker. So had to shower in the dark (I didn't want to take any risks, lol). Would never recommend staying there.

All those condos remind me of the huge city size cruise ships. They're big, new with plenty of amenities, but they're just too big and too many people. Like cruise ships, i prefer the smaller, less crowded condos that are also usually larger as well. To each their own, though.

Would it be cheaper to rent a small house in an enclosed compound area?
@wattstraveling8 ай бұрын
That's a good question and if you had a vehicle I'm sure you'd find a compound that can be cheaper. 👍 Usually they are farther away from main areas that's why you'd need a vehicle, but they are definitely an option!

@wattstraveling8 ай бұрын
@jimbopoker3204 hi Jim, good question to ask. From our experience hot spotting is possible but you do need to make sure when you buy your sim and plan that there is no hot spot limit. Many plans I have seen have a 3gb or 6gb (or less) limit on hot spotting. May not be an issue for some but if you plan to stream Netflix or something like that you would eat up the data limit quite quickly. Cheers! 👍😊
