Wood expands and contracts as temp and humidity changes. think of a something you bend back and forth to break off, now think of this wood expanding and contracting for 40 years...

In Europe most of these cars had Burlwood and not Zebrano inserts. Was Burlwood an option in the US? - Btw the car looks totally amazing!

Burl wood was seen on some of the US cars in the late 1970s but they were all zebrano by the 1980s

For that price will they fix wood that is in really bad shape? Or do they only work on wood that is in fair condition?

Yes they can actually re-veneer your wood if it is damaged. I have actually never sent them damaged wood just wood that needs to be recoded with the polyester resin. It's about $1,600 once you include the shipping. If your wood needs to be re-veneered it's going to be more expensive. However there is no one else that does it correct that I have found.
