I love how even though everyone is debating the merits of intentionally bad video game music (I.E. Low HP music) and video music that doesn't sound great due to limitations (GS Victory Road and Crown Dungeon from OoS) everyone almost unanimously agrees that the lack of New Yoshi's Island music is a crime. I'm just glad the breadbug theme, a song made intentionally goofy for the purpose of a funny enemy that will rarely do anything negative to the player, isn't on this list.

I like Metroid II but I think that track deserves its place here. It’s just a ton of random noise with a few small hints of an actual melody with a ton of random speed mixing. It also seemingly can’t decide what it wants to do. Suddenly it’s all fast paced like a boss theme or something and then goes back to its normal, slow, dreadful chaotic noise. I’m personally not a huge fan of this song at all.

The first and last songs of Metroid II are proof that team knew how to make music and are really the only two real songs in the game. The game opens with an upbeat adventurous (and really good) tune, then as you go further and deeper into the cave the music becomes distorted and often times completely mute until the end when you finally escape and are treated to a beautiful relieving song as you walk back to your ship. Chozo Ruins is definitely not a song you’d want to listen to outside of the game but it serves its purpose well. The songs I’m talking about are “Surface of SR388” and “Metroid Hatchling” Edit: listening to the soundtrack again, the title and credits themes are also good

I agree it’s probably the best track here, though I do remember it receiving a TON of backlash/hate when X released just due to the weird vocals. Tho I actually think the daytime version has more grating vocals, I usually skipped daytime for that reason. I think it’s just the fact that it came after Xenoblade 1, which has one of the greatest soundtracks of all time, people had really high expectations for X, and while some of it delivers, others definitely are a bit off.
